Is Cath Kidston EVER acceptable?

Considering a bag for DD's baby swimming (on accounts that some of the prints are kiddish, and the bags seem practical). I just don't know whether it would still look massively naff, even if it would effectively be a "baby bag".

It’s not a brand for teenagers...it’s a brand for women of a very particular style demographic. Not exciting or stylish by any means.

Having said that, I have one. It’s a handbag style hold-all which I use for weekend trips. It’s got a subtle pattern (navy background, roses and birds in muted dark colours). It’s great. And I like to think that I manage to make it look fairly good!

Wallywobbles · 30/10/2019 14:23

Both my teens still use CK rucksacks they were given when small. It's their carry on for any plane train or road trips.

SouthWestmom · 30/10/2019 14:24

White Stuff, Cath Kidston, Joules, all for middle class middle aged safe dressers. Can't imagine a teenager with freedom of choice going in them.

Ninkaninus · 30/10/2019 14:26

I’m sure some teenagers like it. It’s aimed at anyone who loves that style, and I can see it working nicely for some young women.

The bags last. My kids are using them for school everyday since they started yr2 and yr3. They did ask for cheaper ones they preferred the look of, and they didn’t even last a whole school year. So they’ve both gone back to CK bags.

I use them because they cope well with spills, stains etc and long lasting.

I wouldn’t think them very trendy, but know it’s a brand I can trust.

Ninkaninus · 30/10/2019 14:52

Yes, they definitely last very well. I’ve had mine for years and it looks brand new.

greathat · 30/10/2019 14:54

I've got one with crocodiles on it. I don't give a shit what anyone else thinks. I like it

Bluewavescrashing · 30/10/2019 14:58

I like CK too. I like whimsical prints from various places actually.

Starfish83 · 30/10/2019 15:01

This line of thought is so intriguing. I have had quite a number of CK products over the years. Most recently, the practicality of having a few machine-washable, foldaway bags has been brilliant when managing a toddler and all her things. If that makes me look “mumsy”, so be it - I am a mummy and privileged to be so. I will carry them wearing my vintage 70s leather jacket or my DMs. If people wish to judge me on whether or not I use CK products, it says more about them and there’s so much more to a person than how they chose to dress/accessories. OP, do whatever works for you. 😊

30not13 · 30/10/2019 15:10

DC has a ck bag for school. It looks as good as new after a year and a bit.

Kcoffecakebubs · 30/10/2019 15:19

I missed the memo too! I mean, I've really missed it!!

notso · 30/10/2019 15:20

Seeing as your planning on buying one bag to use presumably occasionally for swimming and not having your whole body and face tattooed in one of the prints and committing to only using Cath Kidston products, I think you'll be fine Smile

Do you pay much attention to other peoples bags when you go swimming?
Even if you always do presumably you either think great bag or ugly bag etc and get on with your day.

ThursdayLastWeek · 30/10/2019 15:26

Have a look on eBay, there were tonnes in there when I tried to sell mine, you might find a bargain

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 30/10/2019 15:30

I've got one with crocodiles on it. I don't give a shit what anyone else thinks. I like it

Me too haha

MaryShelley1818 · 30/10/2019 15:34

I love Cath Kidston....couldn’t care a less if others don’t :)

mummylollypop · 30/10/2019 15:34

CK bags are great. The childrens school bags lasted for years where the cheaper bags fell apart.

northerngirl2012 · 30/10/2019 15:37

My mum gave me her old CK spotty handbag as she didn’t wear it anymore & I had so many compliments on it!

Velveteenfruitbowl · 30/10/2019 15:39

Have you considered Sophie Alport? It’s basically a nice version of kath kidson.

HidingInTheKitchen · 30/10/2019 15:41

...my question stemmed from the fact that I think CK is really a brand for children/teenagers....

NEVER heard of that before?!? I have a Cath Kidston rucksack that I use as the upgraded version of the baby bag. It's lovely!

PreschoolYes · 30/10/2019 15:42

We have a dinosaur one for DS' bag, he's 3, it's fine.

Pharlapwasthebest · 30/10/2019 15:55

Who cares, if you like it buy it!

pinkstar01 · 30/10/2019 16:08

I have a pretty floral CK baby bag and it's been perfect!

IsadoraQuagmire · 30/10/2019 16:22

I've got a Cath Kidston bag, I've had for ages, with cowboys and horsies on it. I loved it when I was 15 or 16 and I love it now I'm in my early 20s.
Cath Kidston is one of my favourite shops, why would I care in the least what anyone else thinks! Grin
They are overpriced though.

pelirocco123 · 30/10/2019 16:43

Personally I hate Cath Kidson as I feel it is over priced hype ( and unattractive (

But then again my preferred swimming bag would be a supermarket carrier bag
I may have missed the memo saying that baby swimming bags need to be 'designer'

apples24 · 30/10/2019 17:08

Ambivalent about CK, but who needs a new bag for swimming?
