I'm 5'4", 10 st, size 12, no waist to speak of these days, quite short legs.

TIA for your advice.

I didn't read it as aggressive at all.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 30/10/2019 16:50

It's an homage, not an insult

'what women of a certain age should wear'

Clankboing · 30/10/2019 16:50

Hmm. I am suspicious. You are a time traveller!!

wendywoopywoo222 · 30/10/2019 16:50

I'd agree whatever she wants to wear. I don't think jeans mind what age your arse is.

I'm wearing Asda bootcut jeans that I bought about ten years ago. Just because I can.

unwravellingagain · 30/10/2019 16:54

Uniqlo jeans are great.

Floisme · 30/10/2019 17:00

I've been known to get cross at ageism on here and I know there have been some um... provocative threads recently. However I also know how easy it is to lose your confidence when you hit middle age and I think it's a bit off to get spiky at someone who basically seems to be asking for advice and reassurance. It's not that hard to tell the difference.

Anyway 63, 5'3, size 8-10 (increasingly a 10) and a bit pear shaped. I'm switching between some Uniqlo U curve legs, Whistles barrel legs and a couple of old pairs of straight/slim leg NYD that felt dated last year but are now spot on for me. I
I've also kept one pair if skinnies and a pair of girlfriends but I can see now that they did me few favours.

As a general rule, I think denim is very forgiving of ageing bodies.

Walnutwhipster · 30/10/2019 17:03

I'm 47 and 5'4. The only jeans that suit are super skinny. I wear them with knee length boots, currently a black leather pair or Dubarry Galways. I'm a size 6/8 (52kg) depending where I shop.

RedSheep73 · 30/10/2019 17:06

M&S straight legged. They actually fitted so I got 2 pairs. Another short-legged pear-shaped person.

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 30/10/2019 17:12

I wear Top Shop skinny Jamie jeans, with the high waist. They are supposed to be ankle grazers, but I buy the longest length, to get them long enough, although I only have regular legs, not long legs. Good quality and heavy fabric, super stretchy which I like.

Bluesheep8 · 30/10/2019 17:23

For me, age is irrelevant. It's body shape that's important. I'd say go to somewhere like a gap outlet and try on jeans in every colour and style op. I'm 46 and care not a jot what people think a woman my age SHOULD be wearing, I wear what I know suits me. I'm happy with my legs and am a size 10 so wear skinny jeans, ripped or bleached if I want to.

Uponreflection · 30/10/2019 18:36

It’s taken me half a century to decide that jeans are so uncomfortable that I am giving them up. I am in wide leg trousers and boots at the moment and can actually move and sit down.

CaptainPovey · 30/10/2019 18:52

I am 53 wearing skinny jeans (whichever fit best) and Stan Smith trainers; I can buy junior as I am a size five so half the price.

IDGAF what people think of me and I remember my dear old Mun rocking a pair of white Levi's in her 60's

MaudesMum · 30/10/2019 20:01

I'm late 50s, apple shaped, and I've been living in Fatface's straight-legged jeans for the last few years. Which I wear with trainers or desert boots in the summer and timberlands/chelsea boots in the winter, in case that's relevant. Gutted to discover that they're no longer available - have been replaced by a different type of straight-leg which isn't going down well with punters according to the comments on their website, so I'm looking for others. Skinnys don't suit me unless tucked into boots (chunky calves) and wide-legged ones make me look even more circular. My mum was wearing jeans until she died at 74, and my aunt is still wearing them at 85, so I'm planning to wear jeans until I drop as well.

I hate bootcuts, but I like your style and attitude!

Yika · 30/10/2019 21:09

In response to some earlier posters: I do think my age is relevant to the post. I wanted recommendations from people in a similar kind of age bracket, which I have got.

I don't follow fashion much and I'm still wearing old jeans from years ago. I don't like trawling round the shops with no idea of what to buy. The specific recommendations of brands and styles on here are really helpful and much appreciated. I hadn't even heard of some of the brands mentioned. I've looked at a fair few online this evening and I've got a good idea of which shops I'll be heading to.

M&S jeggings (I'm 53) because I don't have the patience to undo a belt , zip and two buttons on my Next Slim'n'Lift
They are in my wardrobe for when I can be bothered

Ihavepatrick · 31/10/2019 08:23

I wasn't being aggressive! In my head it was said nonchalantly Grin
I'm 5'7 fat curvy and look better in jeans than a dress or leggings and a tunic.

RuggyPeg · 31/10/2019 08:42

I'm wearing coated jeans pretty much all the time at the mo. I'm sure I'll wake up one day soon and think they're hideous but for now, I'm lovin em. I like my next ones the most.
