Hi all,I need some help finding a good foundation. All the foundations I have tried lately tend to sit on the surface of my skin and look all bitty.This is after exfoliating. My skin has gone all weird after having little one! Any recommendations greatly appreciated! Don't mind about cost either as long as it works! Thanks in advance.

I,m with expatinscotland on this one. I will never go back to conventional makeup.

I,m 47 with fine lines, very dark circles round eyes and skin looks blotchy with open pores witn no makeup.

I have used quite good conventionalmakeup but it always lets me down when the weather warms up goes shiny melts eyeliner etc etc.

Thw secret with mineral makeup is too find the right shade for you. Use good quality brushes and technique of application.

I wore makeup the other Sunday when it was 28 degrees does not feel like make up and my face never goes shiny. Also my eyeliner never melts now.

supply samples so you can experiment to find your shade. Bare escentuals are good but a little more pricey and I have not found anyone online offering samples.

Some people can,t get used to mineral makeup because it looks like a powder and they say it is messy to apply, however if you use the container lid or old saucer the results are far superior to liquid makeup. With the right shade and application your skin just looks airbrushed.

Also I can do my makeup in about five mins including eyes and lips.

i did order samples from lilylolo but felt it made my skin look older? I like the idea of mineral foundation but am obviously not applying it properly. Are there any concessions within department stores that would show me how to apply properly? Or perhaps I just ordered the wrong shade for my colouring. Do you use a foundation brush to apply it?

I use Clarins foundation which I really like.
If you go along to a big department store just go to your Clarins / Clinique / Estee Lauder / etc counter and get them to do your makeup for you. they'll pick out the right foundation.

Hi bigspender you nees to use a real hair kabuki brush to apply mineral foundation. You take up some foundation on the brush thm swirl the brush on the inside of the foundation lid or on a saucer tap the brush to remove the excess powder then lightly swirl over the face no need to press hard.

If you have the right shade it will just morph into your own skin and all imperfections will disappear

What's mineral makeup when it's at home then?

I was very unimpressed with the Lily Lolo samples. I use Cover Fx atm.

surely mineral make up would be bad for dry skins? enlighten me, mineral fans!

I think you're right, dreamofdaleks. You probably need a creamy base before putting on mineral powder.

I recently bought the L'Oreal mineral foundation. Comes in a little pot with a brush ine the lid. I really like it and i have terrible skin, makes it look flawless and dewy and not overmade up.

I got the samples from them but have since discovered there is obviously a trick to applying it as i just thought it made me look older!! I am going to try again with a proper brush!

I use SheerCover - also a mineral foundation. It's fab. Might give the LilyLolo one a look when I need to get some more as it's cheaper!

Bigspender - the type of moisturiser you use can make a difference too. It can clog up a bit with a thick moisturiser underneath. The sheercover one comes with its own moisturiser and, while it wouldn't be my first choice moisturiser, does give a better finish overall!

How much is sheer cover if you don't mind me asking? Sometimes you get what you pay for?

Well, it has just got easier. You can still only buy it mail order in this country (0808 161 1773). You used to have to buy the whole kit, including 2 colours of foundation, finishing powder, moisturiser, cleanser, brushes, etc, for £60, but they have finally starting selling the items individually, and the 4g size foundation is now available for £25.

Well I ordered some foundation and blusher from lilylolo, and have to say I am very impressed (bye bye max factor) mineral make-up for me from now on I have alot of blemishes, lots of freckles, suitcases under my eyes, and wrinkles are starting to appear and the mineral foundation really did the trick, even though I was using a very cheap blusher brush, can not afford the natural hair brush at the moment (have you seen the price for them and the sample pot for the foundation was about 80p and I reckon will last about 10 days.

Yves St laurent concealer touch up pen (the best ever make up product to hit the shelves) + loose powder.

I use the touch up everywhere not just unedr eyes. Works rreally well on pinkish cheeks, to cover blemishes and darker spots.
Does not look like you got a mask on nor clog pores as you only dab it on where you need and spread with tip of fingers.

Loose powder and a little blush give a polished finish.

Agree moisturizer major factor in final look.
We tend to use too mmuch.

Great new find for skin refining: Origins modern friction (face scrub). Go to a counter and try it on one hand. Compare with the other. Amazing!

I have a problem with moisturiser, I have tried dozens, but they all make me break out in spots.

try using less and not at all at night?
I read an interview of Eve Lom (of the famous eve lom cleansing balm) and she reckons we don't need it in the evening.
I only use some if my skin is tight (and I have dryish skin)

I've been struggling to find a good one too, but think I've found the right one for me anyway - I can't recommend Estee Lauder Double Wear enough! I really love it. If you go to the counter they will match the right colour for your skintone and give you a sample bottle which lasts for 10 days, so you get plenty of time to see if it really is the one for you. Doesn't slide off your face after a few hours and doesn't feel heavy either!

But I have dry skin and the foundation makes my skin look very dry and powdery
I have posh brush and followed all the instructions but it still looked old lady on me
