What to wear over this sexy dress?

Bought this dress for a Christmas wedding and it looks fab. Teamed it with these heels.
I have a couple of black coats for getting to church and to the reception etc but would like something to cover up a bit for church for warmth and also dignity! Grin

If it were still 1998 I would be all over the black bolero...!

How about a shawl/pashmina?

WineIsMyCarb · 06/10/2019 20:19

Just to say I'm only planning to wear one of my black coats. On re-reading I felt that wasn't terribly clear!

This kind of thing?

I'd go navy shawl / pashmina with that. Lovely dress and shoes!

TipseyTorvey · 06/10/2019 20:21

Amazing dress and I love those shoes!! What about a tux mid length jacket. Structured and smart. Hush have one at the moment.

WineIsMyCarb · 06/10/2019 20:21

Hi @slowdownplease - that would be my go-to but it's a little church in the Lake District in December so I am worried a pashmina will be insufficient! (And I'm a northerner!)

If it's a Christmas wedding you might want to keep the coat on in church!
I'd put on a fake fur - you could do black, white, animal print or a colour.

You could also find a little fake fur stole/collar/short cape/shrug, would look great.

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/10/2019 20:25

And I'm a northerner!

Then surely you don't need a coat?!! And you'll wanting to cut a couple of feet off the length too. Wink

Before anyone kicks off, I'm also Northern although I will put my hand up and admit that these days I'm very much a soft Southerner who likes a nice warm coat. And scarf. And gloves. Grin

picklemepopcorn · 06/10/2019 20:25

Either you need your coat on, or a pashmina will be enough.

Or a fake fur stole...

RobertSmithdoesmyhair · 06/10/2019 20:29

Love your shoes! Where are they from?
Beautiful dress too!

WineIsMyCarb · 06/10/2019 20:33

Yes indeed @HundredMilesAnHour - I too have become softened by years down south and now need to cover up for warmth and also have these funny new ideas about putting my tits away! Grin

I have ~a selection of~ a fur collar(s).

What about this - mine is in a slightly darker/richer shade:

Still going to have goosepimple arms though....

I was going to say a charcoal crew neck jumper in cashmere or a similar snuggly mix, but I see other suggestions are much more at the glam end of things!

This is lovely - and warm!

WineIsMyCarb · 06/10/2019 21:26

They are lovely @MrsJake but are still coat-like. Think I'm asking for something to be invented specially for me!
Will go with the fur collar / stole and be brave!

Thanks all

You'll be wanting thermals under that dress love! I'm also a northerner gone soft after 21 yrs down south.

peachgreen · 06/10/2019 23:16

Beautiful dress. I think fur might be too much, personally, but it depends how glam you think the wedding will be. I'd get a black cropped luxury cashmere cardigan - maybe one with a subtle sparkle - and take it off for photos / when inside etc.

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/10/2019 23:18

I think a fur collar will be as much use as a chocolate teapot. Keeping your neck warm will hardly help the rest of you.

Churches can be cold at the best of times. But in December, and in the North West? I feel cold just thinking about it. You'll probably end up with your coat on....so make sure you have a nice coat!!!

iknowimcoming · 06/10/2019 23:18

Agree with pp - a shrug or crop cardi will be fine but surely no one takes their coats off in church for a winter wedding?

WineIsMyCarb · 06/10/2019 23:19

Nice idea Peach. I have been eyeing up a navy bolero / cardi online and considering tacking my fur collar to it to make it a bit more glam but actually provide some arm warmth. Then I'm all decent for church and not overheated when dancing to Ooops Upside Your Head (the significant downside of thermals FluffyAlpaca!!)
