What to wear over this sexy dress?

Bought this dress for a Christmas wedding and it looks fab. Teamed it with these heels.
I have a couple of black coats for getting to church and to the reception etc but would like something to cover up a bit for church for warmth and also dignity! Grin

If it were still 1998 I would be all over the black bolero...!

Just saw this beautiful linked to on another thread. It's a full length, Victoria inspired frock coat which would be ideal for the church ceremony.

mandarin coat claret or black

BikeRunSki · 07/10/2019 07:03

it's a little church in the Lake District in December

A big down jacket then! Wink

Oooooh yes, add the fur collar to a lovely soft luxe cardi, that's perfect. You'll only really need it for church I suspect (also who leaves their coat on in church?!) and it'll look lovely.

FleurNancy · 07/10/2019 08:52

Stunning dress! I'd just leave my coat on for the church service to be honest.

HundredMilesAnHour · 07/10/2019 21:11

also who leaves their coat on in church?!

Lots of people! If you go to the midnight service on Christmas Eve at the village church where I grew up in the North West, the entire congregation keeps their coats on. It's COLD!!!! The vicar doesn't wear a coat but I bet he's got thermals on underneath his robes.

Saw this in the window of Ted Baker earlier. I still think a fur would be more versatile.

I am going to a winter type wedding in late November, and I have a dress like yours, I have gone for a cropped fake fur -I personally wouldn't go matchy or fun fur - or ivory otherwise you will look like Santa. Go for a natural hue in a warm tone - it will look much better, Steer clear of black - too harsh. Like this (hope link works) www.endource.com/product/the-kooples-faux-fur-coat-with-high-neck/XZX4Okbg-wABozRn

Chillichutney1 · 07/10/2019 21:27

How about a fur lined cashmere poncho, you can pull it up over your shoulders like an infinity scarf when you want to put your coat on and it will keep your front and neck warm

I do love the Ted Baker cape above. Otherwise agree a cropped cashmere cardi in navy blue or dark grey will look good

PavlovaFaith · 07/10/2019 21:29

White faux fur stole 👍🏻

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 07/10/2019 21:31

Ooh I do love the Ted Baker Cape too @palahvah

Margotshypotheticaldog · 07/10/2019 21:33

Pmsl at the white fur +red dress+winter wedding =santa 😂😂

AliciaQuays · 07/10/2019 21:35

Nothing. A skinny vest if needs be. JESUS GUYS NOT A PASHMINA

Iamthewombat · 07/10/2019 21:57

I am a northern woman too, of the type particularly dedicated to glamour (by which I mean, if I can avoid having a coat on over my posh clothes and body pumped arms, I will). During the 1990s I queued for clubs in the snow wearing hot pants and a bra top. I am quite hardcore. So take this in the spirit in which it is intended:

For the love of god, keep your coat on in a church in the Lake District in December. You will be perished otherwise.

You can whip off your coat when you get into a warmer room. Big reveal, ta dah.

Also, in the name of all that is sacred, do not wear an effing pashmina. Or that terrible ‘wedding shawl’. Or that heinous Ted Baker furry cape. Or anything in pale coloured fake fur. I’m telling you this for your own good.

Stravapalava · 07/10/2019 22:09

You want something like this

AliciaQuays · 08/10/2019 20:34

Capes are shit. I’ve had two. Both disasters.

WineIsMyCarb · 08/10/2019 22:27

Hahha @Iamthewombat - be my BFF forever!

Ok I will keep the coat on. But wear the brown fur collar I have over it to make it a bit more spesh.

Love the Ted Baker jacket thing but there's no way it will be the exact colour match. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Why the pashmina hate? I mean they're a bit frumpy, sure, but with that dress I'm not concerned about that accusation being levelled.

Maybe I could wear my fur bootie slippers (with the excuse God doesn't want to see my naked indecent toes?)

Would it be unethical to see whether one of my late grandma's fur coats would fit?
