I plan to do the home keratin treatment by myself tomorrow. I'm fairly skilled in home hair dyeing, home waxing etc so I'm presuming that I'll be ok doing this. Am I right?

Any tips from those that have done it already?

Did you do it op?

ethelfleda · 03/10/2019 08:04

Following!
What hair type do you have?

omikron · 03/10/2019 08:18

My hair is fine and totally frizzy.

First impressions are that my hair is smooth and never been straighter. It swishes which it's never done before and definitely less tangly.

I'm still in the three day wait for washing so we'll see what it's like after wash day!

I'm hoping that after washing, I'll be able to blast dry it upside down for some volume but that the ends fall nicely. I don't really care about poker straight hair, I just wanted the frizz to go away and for my hair to be more manageable.

Dancer12345 · 03/10/2019 09:31

I use this, I still have to run the straighteners through, but very minimal compared to before and then it lasts whatever the weather.

Newyearnewme2019 · 06/10/2019 20:32

Do you have before and after pictures?

sparklefarts · 06/10/2019 21:38

How's it go OP?

Writersblock2 · 06/10/2019 22:09

I use this too. I alternate between this and some of the other brands. It’s a lifesaver for me. My hair is crap if I don’t use this. I used to have very curly hair and use permanent straightening for about five or six years and then gradually stopped and just use this. My hair is pretty straight these days

AutumnRose1 · 07/10/2019 09:44

I used this but the smell and fumes were grim. I don't know what it's like in a salon though.

results - as soon as I had regrowth, I had frizz. My hair grows very fast which doesn't help.

cheezy · 07/10/2019 12:03

writersblock2 what’s the permanent straightening that you’ve used? I’ve used keratin treatment but find the fumes so strong!

stayfit · 07/10/2019 12:29

@AutumnRose1 mine is same, I have tried in salon too and was not happy with results. I have since switched to dyson (test before buying) don't have straight hair but much better style than my frizzy mess before.

AutumnRose1 · 07/10/2019 12:34

I have thought about the KeraSilk but there's no at-home option I can see, and given how quickly my hair grows, even spending £30 is quite a lot.

I am not looking to get rid of curls, just frizz.

It's kind of annoying because left to myself, I don't really care. But now workplaces seem to have this expectation that hair is only even tidy if it's not frizzy. Grooming expectations at work are a big problem.

boredboredandmorebored · 07/10/2019 12:44

Following as I would also like to see before and after pictures Grin

nobigotsallowed · 07/10/2019 12:50

I've used a similar one 3 or 4 times, but stopped using it in the end, as I read that the alternative ingredient to the formaldehyde is actually as toxic, but just under a different name. Don't know if this is completely true, but it did used to hurt my lungs Confused so I decided to go back to spending more time than I have drying and styling my naturally misbehaving, frizzy wavy/curly hair.

It does work though 🤷‍♀️

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 07/10/2019 13:57

I use it but recently got a different brand than you was out the same day which was great I hated the 3 day wait with greasy hair [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07JHQTQWM/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=A1ULVNMOJD0YVL&psc=1this&tag=mumsnetforu03-21 one]]

AutumnRose1 · 07/10/2019 14:01

I used the one OP used but didn't wait 3 days to wash hair. I think I waited about 1.5!!

It was fine. As I say, the problem for me was the fumes etc and the fact that my hair grows so fast.

I still have half a pot left, I haven't thrown it out but just not sure I can face those fumes again.
