Calling all generously-endowed women - advice needed on tops!

I'm a generous size 16 cos of my boobs (HUGE!) and need advice on work tops. I am a skirt/boots/top person and need some tops for the autumn that would flatter my hugely curvaceous shape without being too revealing in fabric or style (I teach). Please help! - I dread buying tops but can't put it off for much longer... (Back to work in three weeks...)

PS - can't afford really expensive stuff (thinking of sister who buys all her work clothes from Hobbs )

I have a generous upper half and find that wearing a v-neck top with a round necked top underneath (to hide cleavage) works well for me.

wrap tops work well on me and i am a similar shape/size to you. def v necks, as deep as you dare with perhaps a cami/vest underneath to cover too much cleavage. hth!

No ties/frills/ruffles (urgh) at the front that will add bulk. No cowl necks. I've found V-necks are the most flattering.

I sometimes wear a stretchy crop top style under a suit jacket (or is that a bit too OTT for your job??) I wear a uniform to work so don't really have this dilemma..... Bravissimo do button up shirts for the larger-breasted lady (specially tailored so that they cover your boobs but aren't sack-like) they are quite pricey me thinks (although I'm a cheap-arse!!!)

I am a G/H cup, so don't come much bigger! Although you say can't afford expensive stuff, look at Bravissimo as they are designed for big boobs. Go for vest/string tops with wrap cardis, vvv flattering.

Also wrap tops are good but wear with cami under as said before, don't buy too baggy as you wil look big all over, try to get the tops to make it over boobs, but back in at waist. HTH

I do like the idea of a wrap top with a vest underneath - that seems a nice compromise between t-shirty thing (bit informal) and jacket (if it fits over my boobs, it's way too long in the arms). Think I will need to take a day off from ds and go and try some on...

I am of large norks (36 DD) and bought a lovely grey/turquoise tshirt with a square neck from Tesco for £8.

skims the hips, hides the boobs, dress up or down and is very flattering.

Sains have some lovely tops too.

v necks are flattering but round necks are not.

3Ddonut - I wish we had a teaching uniform! Maybe I should design one...So envious of blokes who just have to decide which tie to wear with suit and shirt...

Strap on two sports bras and RUN from polo necks.

Oh God, the polo neck...How to look even more huge! Or you get that horrible shelf effect - may as well just balance a tea cup on them and be done with it.

Will try to locate Tesco/Sainsburys selling clothes nearby, collision - like the sound of a square neckline.

Although it is a tshirt material it is a longer top really and not tshirty at all.

Oh the polo neck with large boobs look My mum always used to do this until I pointed out that a uniboob was one breast too few.

i find that slash/boat neck can be really flattering too and i am ginormous top half with superbig shoulders.

it is the straight lines thing, avoid scoop necks if poss.

I can see how if you have wide-ish shoulders then a boat neck could work. I have a very small frame with these stupid big norks, so boat necks sag in the middle and really draw attention to them.

No matter how high you hoist 'em, a polo neck will always make them look waist level.

A good bra is the secret to any top imo. Event the best v-neck empire line/georgette top or whatever they're called will look dreadful without something heavily underwired and preferably scaffolded underneath.

Oh yes, a good bra, absolutely of paramount importance. I have become - very, very expensively - addicted to Rigby and Peller, but other MNers swear by the somewhat cheaper (though no bargain basement) Bravissimo (never got on with their stuff personally). My Ecups suddenly became perkily, youthfully hoisted.

It is worth dreaming of. But you'll never be able to afford anything else to wear. GGGlimpopo scolded me for not buying matching pants (being all French and not dreaming of wearing non-matching pants) and I pointed out I could NOT spend £40 on a pair of pants.

having just recently discovered Bravissimo (thanks MN) I would never have dreamt that a nice bra could change your personality soooooo much. I love mine

I did telephone another company a few months before they took my measurements and sent me 2 bras of the wrong size . Didnt return them in the given time so if anyone needs them they are a 48G (I think)
