Oh dear, I'm sat here in black trousers and a red top, are the fashion police going to come for me? Just wear what you want, if you don't like it, don't wear it.

Blutopia · 25/09/2019 17:17

Oh no, gutted. I have dozens of beautiful bright tops, if I can't wear them with black trousers what am I meant to wear!

I don't buy cream, white or stone anything. Or brown, or khaki. Those colours look terrible on me, I'm fair skinned with dark hair, cool tones, and quite fat...

Divebar · 25/09/2019 17:21

I think colours with black can look very dated. I particularly don’t like softer colours like pinks with black.... other options include navy, dark purple, browns, bottle greens, grey depending on the tone and intensity. Navy and black together can be super chic.

Ninkaninus · 25/09/2019 17:42

It really, really depends on the outfit and the occasion, and one’s colouring.

woodhill · 25/09/2019 17:51

You are probably right but sometimes it's easy to put black trousers with a colour as it is easy and I don't care that much.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/09/2019 18:06

I think colour and black jeans isn’t so bad, but the black “work trousers” and bright top is not a look I like. A woman I work with always wears black trousers with coloured shirts, and I think it looks really dowdy.

Tanaqui · 25/09/2019 18:26

Black jeans are okay with most things, but I hate that 80s combo of black and hot pink, bright red or electric blue. However I love florals with a black or navy background, so not sure anyone should take tips from me!

gingersausage · 25/09/2019 18:31

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I agree with this but I have a pathological loathing for black (polyester) trousers with anything unless they are actually part of a uniform that one is forced to wear.

I mostly wear black with black, but occasionally a red or white shirt. Colour tends to come from my footwear.

MoltonSilver · 25/09/2019 18:34

No. Just cause Trinny says it doesnt make it true.

How the hell did they ever become stylists? The mind boggles...

Sarcelle · 25/09/2019 18:57

Some of the shoes that she wears are hideous.

I think Trinny places magnets on her body, then stands naked in front of her wardrobe, and what she wears is what pings on her. Must be the explanation for some of the ensembles

SapphireSeptember · 25/09/2019 19:04

I agree with people re black polyester trousers though, I only wear them at work cos I have to. I do have some lovely cotton flared ones though that I love though (which I do not wear to work even though I could, they're too nice!)

I like black and pastel colours too (very cupcake Goth/gothic lolita, especially pale pinks and purples.) Black and bright pink are a staple combination in my wardrobe, although I was born in 88 so don't remember it the first time around. Grin

So confession time, a brightly coloured t-shirt and long black skirt are mostly what I wear in the summer, then I'll match my eyeshadow or lipstick to the t-shirt. Smile

Black and yellow, is she a Hufflepuff?

"A woman I work with always wears black trousers with coloured shirts, and I think it looks really dowdy."

Ah, you're working with me 😂

Blutopia · 25/09/2019 21:16

Nah Rose, it's definitely me. Judy is the woman you work with a bit fat but hilarious with great hair 😎

AutumnRose1 · 25/09/2019 22:15

Actually it's not me; I just realised that poster said brights, I don't wear brights.

AppleHEAD · 26/09/2019 07:23

I wear black with blue, beige and grey. Any other colours and I think you look like a liquorice allsort. Unless you wear black with white and then you look like a waitress.

MikeUniformMike · 26/09/2019 09:16

The crisp white shirt is often quoted as a wardrobe must-have, but how long do they stay crisp and white, and if you wear it with a black skirt or black trousers, you look like a waitress.

MaybeDoctor · 26/09/2019 09:41

I haven't worn black now for ten years!

My neutrals are navy and ivory.

Shoes and bags are tan leather or suede.

I wear red, pink, purple, green and blue. It all coordinates with my navy, ivory and leather neutrals. No difficulty whatsoever.

It's so boring to go to an evening event and every woman is wearing some variation of a black dress.

No sign of OP

Not sure where the query came from if not from watching old T&S.

championquartz · 26/09/2019 09:58

Funny thread. Liquorice allsortsGrin

Aw leave Trinny alone - I quite like her! A bit crackers but seems hilarious, dahling. And i admire her work ethic. I love her Zara shop-ups. Not her boyfriend tho Sad. I'd like her to be my friend. I wonder is she available for friendship. Grin

Not keen on the black and brights, but only because it doesn't suit me. I wear black skirts with all sorts (not liquorice!) but mainly grey, navy and recently certain blues. I do wear black trousers but good black trousers are the devil itself to find. I'm considering spending a small fortune to get a decent pair.

Ninkaninus · 26/09/2019 11:43

I wear black with lots of colours - navy, bottle green, sumptuous patterns, but I think about it carefully. And I tend to keep it to evenings out and not work wear - for example i’ve got a beautiful silk blouse, sludgy yellow with a black and brown flower print. I wear it with a pair of black cigarette trousers, or black coated jeans, or a black velvet skirt. But I mix it up with something like burgundy satin sock boots, and a handbag in a pinky beige. So it doesn’t look like I’ve got the one pair of black polyester trousers and a uniform of ‘cheerful shirts’. Not that there’s anything wrong with that per se, it’s just not the most exciting or fashionable option.

I do wear black with colours for work, but usually as a black top (ribbed polo neck, for example), with a jersey pencil skirt in a coordinating pattern (black and burgundy, black and green, black/red/blue).

Eesha · 26/09/2019 12:59

Depends how you style it. I'm very dark skinned and I think for me, colours go with colours rather than with black. Black skirts or trousers with a bright top scream unfashionable or workwear.

Lardlizard · 27/09/2019 20:21

It’s the Trinny take over show on you tube

No. But I prefer colour or pattern to just a solid black.
