what can I wear with this dress to a wedding??

I've been given a phase eight dress that looks a bit like this although the white pattern is not so regulated.I can't find a picture of the dress on the web so I got the closest image.
What I don't know is what I can wear on top? Cos the white pattern is so strong it looks odd with a black jacket.
The wedding is taking place in Ireland so its likey to be cooler and more than likely raining.
I wondered whether a coloured jacket would be good over the top or a shawl. I saw a really nice pale grey coat in M&S with white embroidery???
As the wedding is in 10 days I need to shop this week and I don't get to many weddings so I need help!

Will a black wrap work if it's raining? It can rain v heavily in the north of Ireland.

This is another sort of example but my dress is black underlay with white patterns.

a wrap dress would be fine. when is the wedding?

Its a week on Thursday so I've limited time to go out shopping.
Mrs Badger suggested a black wrap over the dress and I wondered how this would work if it was heavy rain?
I've given up on the links until I speak to my colleague at work whose much younger than me and knows how to this sort of thing

would you risk the dress without a coat? it's a bold pattern so not sure about a grey coat....

As its Northern Ireland the chance of heavy rain or at least persistent rain is huge and that's why I was worried about a wrap.
My colleague at work whose in her 20s tried to persuade me that a sort swingly bright blue jacket with 3/4 sleeves or some other jewel colour was what to wear. But as I'm in my 40s I thought not.

if it's really raining heavily no adequately weddingy jacket will cut it - wear the wrap and take a big umbrella

I know this sounds mad but where do you get wraps? and can u tell an expensive one from another?

Tie Rack or similar is always a good place to start - get something big in silk/wool/cashmere mix, more like a pashmina than a little flimsy chiffon thing. Debenhams also worth a try, also M&S.
V useful as scarf in winter too.

How about a black shrug (bit softer looking than a jacket as less material/structure)? Monsoon have some lovely ones at the mo

as i'm not on the small side I'm worried that as a shrug is quite small people will think she' on the large side rather than how nice the dress is

How about a loose tie up cardi type shrug instead? I know what you mean, tiny shrugs can look odd if you are not a size 8 but a looser tie front cardi might work with your dress.
Wraps are nice but I think they too can make you look bigger than you are due to all the material flapping around your shoudlers IFSWIM!
