Are these boots frumpy or not?

I've been looking for a pair of black, mid height black leather work horse boots I can wear for work with slim fit black trousers and skirts (semi smart office), I've already bought and sent back three pairs. I keep looking at these www.hush-uk.com/footwear-2/footwear/boots/whitby_ankle_boots-black-silver.htm and thinking 'I like them, but that heel is.....not quite right'. Thoughts?

I like the John Lewis ones op. Here’s the gorgeous and stylish Laura Fantacci wearing kitten heel pointy boots

I like both would probably buy the second pair.

Scardanelli · 18/09/2019 07:23

Love the JL ones. I have some similar. The Hush ones are horrid (PMSL as shoezone comment).

I also have some trusty Ecco boots which go with absolutely everything. They're about 10 years old, but still look good and are monstrously comfortable. I haven't been in Ecco since I bought them, though, so no idea what they sell nowadays.

NoisingUpNissan · 18/09/2019 07:44

This wierd heels are the sort you used to get on v v cheap shoes in the nineties, all llasticky and meh.

Do not buy these horrors.

pimbee · 18/09/2019 08:00

They look quite dated to me, and cheap for the price. Something my mum was wearing in the noughties.

Idontneeditatall · 18/09/2019 08:10

Those saying that the kitten heel is dated, they’re very fashionable again now. This is the thing with fashion, it comes, goes, and comes back again. They’re back now though

pimbee · 18/09/2019 08:34

I wear kitten heels, but just find the black leather, pointed front and studs all quite dated together.

dontgobaconmyheart · 18/09/2019 09:42

Both pairs are not good at all OP, hush isn't particularly funky in my books either, more the opposite tbh and I don't really usually like to leap in and say that. High price doesn't equal fashion or quality, and I cannot see those lasting- kitten heels always wear out quickly because the (awful) shape means you are balancing a lot of weight on the 'heel' so it's expect to be reheeling it fairly often and it will scuff.

I won't get into the environmental aspect but surely you've spent as much time online as you'd have done going into a shop and trying on a few pairs, picking one and leaving. I'd just have gone into M&S for vanities sake or Clark's and had a play, they'll both have leather at 'normal' prices and likely be more wearable.

Each to their own at the end of the day though! If you like that style and are happy with the outlay then it doesn't matter what others think (genuinely)

I thought I'd posted but it did not work so anyway. Huge thanks to all he helpful comments. After much consideration I've decided that perhaps I've accidentally strayed into stale frumpy after wearing pointy kittens for years so have ordered these instead

This is exactly what style and beauty is for in my opinion.

As for the eco comments. Not as helpful. In my past life (pre kids) mooching about at the shops was great. Not so much these days. Maybe when the kids grow up and I work part time (in 2040).

Not frumpy...just bleurgh. Sorry.

MelanieFrontage · 18/09/2019 14:02

I have the Dune Orlla boots in navy suede and love them, we can be frumpy together 😂

RickOShay · 18/09/2019 14:54

I’m not keen on the hush ones, but I love these. Saving up for them!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 18/09/2019 20:13

They are ok but I wouldn't wear them with a skirt

Mummybares · 19/09/2019 12:13

Jesamine my unbalanced comment about the ops not your leopard boots

madcatladyforever · 19/09/2019 12:15

For £199.......no.

Mummybares · 19/09/2019 12:29

Buying and returning online is still better environmentally, the shops gets to mass recycle the packaging, the delivery is made for several properties near each other and returned collectively also less temptation to impulse buy junk, no guarantee of sizing available in shops so may return or travel further. Also ethical stores and second hand options are greater online.

Tanyaaah · 19/09/2019 12:43

Horrible studded boots are now popping up on my Facebook page.Angry

AbandonHopeDarr3n · 19/09/2019 13:19

Oh God, are fecking pointy kitten heels back?

I wouldn't wear those if they were free personally, but then, I'm not you OP and we probably have totally different styles.

The pair you've ordered look a lot more comfortable and to me are much nicer looking too.

envelopeofpubes · 19/09/2019 15:52

Hush is a massive frump fest these days. Used to be ok for women in their 40-50s. Now it’s like they’re targeting pensioners. And so expensive for what is mostly polyester.

foxtiger · 20/09/2019 20:54

I wouldn't describe them as frumpy. I don't personally like shoes with the heel set so far back, they seem to put a strain on under my arch, but if you find them comfortable and like a "rock chick" sort of look I think it would work.

eeksville · 20/09/2019 21:22

They are on trend but I think it's quite hard to pull off the 90s thing if your not a teen, quite easy to stray into the "Ive not actually changed my style since the 90s" territory!

Euromillsplz · 20/09/2019 21:28

I think they're pretty sexy!

BusterGonad · 30/09/2019 18:18

@eeksville 😂

BitchySite · 30/09/2019 18:20

Depends on what you look like
