Stay grey or dye? (photo and backstory)

18 months ago I had very long hair dyed dark brown. I got tired of touching up the roots every 3 or 4 weeks so stopped dyeing altogether to see what would happen.

During that process I gradually went shorter and shorter.

For the first time in a long time it looks tidy and presentable. I will most likely grow it long again, I'm a long-haired girl, but I like the idea of having foils. This would mean 3 colours and some warmth mingled in with the grey so I would never have that solid demarcation line and I could leave it 3 months between salon visits.

But I can't decide!

What do you all think?

I think everything about your hair is absolutely gorgeous. The colour is lovely and the cut is so flattering to your face shape. I wouldn't change a thing!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 08/09/2019 16:28

ILikeyourHairyHands · 08/09/2019 16:29

Really lovely!

Windydaysuponus · 08/09/2019 16:42

Don't you dare dye that!!

mrselizabethdarcy · 08/09/2019 16:45

It looks lovely! . Please don't dye it .

Shylo · 08/09/2019 16:46

Don’t do it!!! I think your hair looks good and if you start putting in foils you may not have the demarcation line but you will need to keep it up and you’ll be back where you started with the upkeep

Lemoneeza · 08/09/2019 16:46

gorgeous colour, looks amazing with what I can see of your skin tone!
if you're not already, purple shampoo will make it zing even more

IceColdLemonade · 08/09/2019 16:54

Wow! Thank you for all your lovely comments! I really appreciate them. It seems pretty unanimous so far.

Yes, it really is beautiful!

Redtartanshoes · 08/09/2019 16:58

I wouldn’t change a thing about it either. Not even the length. It looks style and really suits your face shape

DoctorAllcome · 08/09/2019 17:24

I think your grey is more silver and really pretty.

Cocolapew · 08/09/2019 17:30

Don't dye! It's beautiful.
I've gone grey and I'm growing my layers in from a pixie because I love the colour and shine so much.

Leflic · 08/09/2019 17:35

Looks amazing. I’d really go for silver - purple shampoo to lose the brassy bits etc. I don’t think warm highlights would be an improvement
It looks fabulous and the cut looks great.
What was your old style like ( I have long hair but can’t work out if short or grey would work)

NavyBerry · 08/09/2019 17:48

Very stylish! Leave it as is!

IceColdLemonade · 08/09/2019 17:49

Leflic

My 'old' hair was parted to one side with a few slightly shorter/chin-length layers at the front to give it shape. It came to about 3 inches above my waist. You may not tell on this photo but my natural hair is slightly wavy and quite full-bodied and thick. I LOVED my long-dark hair but I was feeling trapped in the dye cycle. I kept going by thinking 'I can always dye it again!'.

The first 16 months was a totally miserable time, there is no way to deny it. I got by with headbands, hats and root touch-up powder that you brush on, like eye-shadow. If I was doing it again I would consider having the dyed hair gradually lightened. If that ruined my hair, as many women say it does, I still could have cut it shorter.

I really admire the ladies who just have a buzz cut but I just couldn't do it.

Keep it - it looks great.

PennyNotSoWise · 08/09/2019 18:29

Wow, Ice, that's a really lovely shade of grey. Some of my friends have paid a fortune to get their hair that colour Grin

It really suits you, the colour and the cut. Looks very elegant.

ZiggyB · 08/09/2019 18:33

Looks lovely OP don’t dye it. Great colour.

Plump82 · 08/09/2019 18:40

People would pay a fortune to get that colour. Dont cover it up. It looks great with the colour or your skin tone. Bet you'd look amazing with a bright red lipstick!

IceColdLemonade · 08/09/2019 18:47

Pennynotsowise

Lol! I never though I would see he day when people PAID for silver hair!!

Yes, I do sometimes wear very red or coral lipstick. I've always loved those colours. Smile

That is a lovely shade of grey in great condition and I love the dark contrast underneath. Not sure how that would work long but the shape and length is perfect.

Most, nor all, natural grey that I see is dry, wiry, peppery or colourless.
