Stay grey or dye? (photo and backstory)

18 months ago I had very long hair dyed dark brown. I got tired of touching up the roots every 3 or 4 weeks so stopped dyeing altogether to see what would happen.

During that process I gradually went shorter and shorter.

For the first time in a long time it looks tidy and presentable. I will most likely grow it long again, I'm a long-haired girl, but I like the idea of having foils. This would mean 3 colours and some warmth mingled in with the grey so I would never have that solid demarcation line and I could leave it 3 months between salon visits.

But I can't decide!

What do you all think?

It looks beautiful and the cut looks expensively done. Lovely.

I've been thinking about posting a photo of my dark steel coloured grey roots for ideas but I daren't now!

Keep your lovely hair.

Embrace the grey I think that dying hair dark after a certain age is very ageing and unflattering .

reticule · 08/09/2019 19:19

Don't dye! It's lovely.

Plasebeafleabite · 08/09/2019 19:24

Your hair looks in good condition

My advice would depend on how old you are. No need to out yourself with exact age but if you’re less than 50 realistically it is making you look older. Maybe this doesn’t matter in which case it looks very nice and healthy

WhoKnewBeefStew · 08/09/2019 19:25

I love the colour, people pay hood money for that colour.

I'd be tempted to go shorter still, go completely natural then grow it longer again

CeeceeBloomingdale · 08/09/2019 19:27

No, no, no, do not go back to dye! it looks fab

Cleari · 08/09/2019 20:06

I really like the colour

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 08/09/2019 20:19

Yep, keep it! It looks great😊

Whenaretheholidaysover · 08/09/2019 21:10

Bluewavescrashing · 08/09/2019 21:12

AloneLonelyLoner · 08/09/2019 21:14

I wish I could do this. Your hair is beautiful.

dudsville · 08/09/2019 21:16

Just another one here to say that your hair is beautiful, truly!

DianaT1969 · 08/09/2019 21:17

No, don't go back to highlights. It's bleaching and your hair will feel brittle and dry compared to your natural hair. There's a FB group called Gray and Proud if you want inspiration and product advice.

AlmondVanHolden · 08/09/2019 21:50

Poster Girl for grey hair or what! This looks gorgeous.

goose1964 · 09/09/2019 08:03

You aren't grey you're silver. It looks like a really expensive dye job.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 09/09/2019 15:35

I love it, but I do think some of the drama comes from having the longer lengths/ underneath a darker colour. If you go all one shade I think it will look less edgy.

Nixee2231 · 09/09/2019 15:44

Another one who thinks your hair colour is gorgeous and would be overjoyed to have it as my natural colour. I hope you give it a chance at least and see if you end up liking it.

doctorboo · 09/09/2019 18:02

You’re hair looks lovely. Well done with persevering. Maybe see how you feel after winter?

I’m dye free and go through phases of considering going back to brown, having silver added to the darker hair at the back of my head and just leaving it alone as I like the way it currently looks.

squeakybike · 09/09/2019 18:18

I'd pay a lot of money to have my hair dyed that colour! I'm jealous 😂
