Is there anything you treat yourself to after a pay rise or promotion?

Is there anything you would specifically treat yourself to after hard work has paid off and you either receive a long awaited bonus or promotion?

Do you like to mark the occasion with anything special?

No

Ninkaninus · 05/09/2019 10:04

Handbags.

Jewellery.

Cashmere.

Beautiful boots or shoes.

Beautiful coat or jacket.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 05/09/2019 10:48

I bought myself a Tag watch with my promotion bonus.

thedevilinablackdress · 05/09/2019 10:54

Dr Martens shoes

LuxuryWoman2018 · 05/09/2019 10:55

Yes but normally a nice meal out (with a new item to wear)

A biggish financial bonus of some sort normally means a new bottle of perfume although I am a bag lover.

Sexnotgender · 05/09/2019 10:56

My last 3 have been Mulberry handbags.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 05/09/2019 10:57

A celebratory meal out

MinesaPinot · 05/09/2019 13:36

Yes, usually a new bag, or a piece of jewellery, or tickets for me and DH for the theatre and a meal.

I've got my 20 year bonus next month - I'm looking at a silver necklace from Tiffany.

MyCatsHat · 05/09/2019 14:09

Self-employed so don't get pay rises, but I do get occasional windfalls for various reasons. I'm not a big bag person, but this is when I do treat myself to a nice bag, because it's a work-related type of purchase that I use on work trips etc. Or I might buy an item of clothing that's out of my normal price range, if there's something I've been admiring. Still not £££££ though, I'd probably buy a bag or dress at around £200, because I try to save most of the money.

Have to admit I love that "career woman" feeling when I get a big payment and go bag shopping. Cheesy as it is.

I used to set myself incredibly high targets (academic and professional) , and then when I met them, I'd buy myself a piece of jewelry that I'd desperately wanted. If I couldn't meet the target, I wouldn't let myself have the item. I just wasn't allowed it. Like a punishment really.

This spring, I saw a beautiful pair of Gucci sunglasses. I wanted them so badly. I said to myself, "If you get a distinction on your dissertation, you can buy the glasses". Then, I thought, fuck it, and bought the glasses there and then. It was one of the kindest things I've done for myself, de-linking success and pleasure.

I love those sunglasses. And I got a distinction.

Yes, something I wouldn’t usually buy - Astley Clarke earrings, perfume etc

I bought myself a pair of jimmy choo heels many years ago (when satc was big) which I still wear

I never get pay rises or promotions but as winter is coming (boo) I wanted to treat myself & bought this lovely cosy jacket from River Island £75.

Is there anything you treat yourself to after a pay rise or promotion?
RezCowgirl · 05/09/2019 15:50

No but I should seeing as I'm starting a new role next week with a significant pay increase.

What do I need?

Daffodil2018 · 05/09/2019 15:53

A piece of jewellery from Astley Clarke, usually.

ladyratterley · 05/09/2019 15:55

I've bought handbags. Or generally treated myself to things I've had my eye on.
Such a nice feeling!

managedmis · 05/09/2019 16:17

Usually a nice meal

ShoesJerry · 05/09/2019 17:16

Rather than one single big thing, I like to switch to a nicer version of a regular product as a promotion treat. I've had two promotions so far: with the first I switched to Olay razor blades with the built in moisturiser (so no need for extra shaving gel); and with the second I switched from bottles to little cans of tonic (so no flat G&Ts). Both seemed too indulgent to justify originally, and both seem like regular little treats now.

The razor blade one seems a bit random, I guess, but I have a dodgy back so the less twisting I need to do in the shower to faff with separate gel the better!

BubblesBuddy · 05/09/2019 18:23

Annoushka drop earrings to hang from my Annoushka hoops.

JaceLancs · 05/09/2019 21:22

I’m hoping for a promotion and pay rise soon
I’ve promised myself some Valentino rock stud shoes

Loveislandaddict · 05/09/2019 21:24

After my appraisal, treated myself to some concert tickets. Seemed extravagant at the time, but really enjoyed the concert.

Soontobe60 · 05/09/2019 21:27

As a teacher we never get bonuses. A pay rise might get me a chippy tea and bottle of plonk 🤣🤣

fandabbyfannyflutters · 05/09/2019 21:28

Lol. Clearly none of you work for the nhs. With my annual 'pay rise' I pay extra pension contributions and the increase in gas/electric/council tax

KronksSpinachPuffs · 05/09/2019 21:29

If me or dh ever get promoted/a new job we try and go out for a meal to celebrate but this has sometimes coincided with an unexpected expense which has come up which has meant that we havent been able to do that

pimbee · 05/09/2019 21:33

Usually go out for dinner with DH.

CookieDoughKid · 05/09/2019 21:38

Really really boring but i buy a year or two off my mortgage (overpayment). If it's a really big sales bonus then treating besties out to dinner followed by a mini gift for each like a Tom Ford compact. I'm eyeing up a Rolex or a Piquet watch typical of my colleagues but can't bring myself to part with the money knowing my bonus could buy several years better comfort when I'm too knackered to work!!
