I really rate the Elvive one!

fantasmasgoria1 · 23/08/2019 20:54

I have bleached white hair and the only purple toning shampoo that keeps my hair bright and white is provoke purple shampoo. I have tried others and they just don't have the same effect. I sometimes use purple conditioner and weekly use a hair mask.

EmmaC78 · 23/08/2019 20:54

Fanola. It is about £12 a bottle but lasts ages.

emmaliz · 23/08/2019 21:23

Charles Worthington ultraviolet for me too. Actually really works

thatainttheone · 23/08/2019 21:49

Kerastase violet masque is amazing. More like an actual toner.

My hairdresser used it on my bleached hair and the difference was so noticeable. You can get it for about £25 online and not the £35 they want to charge in salon.

Propertyofhood · 23/08/2019 21:58

I use Bleach London Pearlescent shampoo and conditioner - it's like the silver shampoo, but it's slightly more pinky purple rather than cool blue purple and gives a really nice finish. I do have very light bleached hair though.

However, I have also started experimenting making my own toner by using purple/magenta Superdrug Colour Freedom direct dyes mixed in with conditioner. You only need a teeny tiny drop of dye otherwise it will literally come out purple, but it works really well and is much cheaper. Plus a lot of the purple shampoos are quite drying so the conditioner thing is probably better anyway?

adagio · 23/08/2019 21:58

Watching with interest, I have balayage (x2, went back for a redo as the first effort wasn’t really what I was aiming for, or what he said would happen, he only charged £40 for the redo so I guess he recognised it didn’t quite go to plan 1st time!). With hindsight, I’m not sure he is particularly experienced at colour.

I’m on holiday so got the touch of silver and the Charles worthington ultraviolet travel sizes to try. I’ve also got the kms purple stuff at home (nice enough but I’m not sure it does anything to be honest). Was tempted by kerastese mask but at £25 wasn’t sure if it was worth it.

Shitonthebloodything · 23/08/2019 23:04

Fanola. Really cheap and salon quality.

Just realised that sounds like a tresemme advert. Grin

justasking111 · 23/08/2019 23:11

Charles Worthington for me too.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 24/08/2019 07:55

Charles Worthington Ultraviolet fan here too...

If im struggling to justify the cost, I do sometimes use Touch of Silver and apply it to ever so slightly damp hair and leave for 5/10 mins

Puppylucky · 24/08/2019 08:02

Ooh Propertyofhood I've been thinking about trying Bleach London Perlescent for ages but wasn't sure what the effect would be on my hair (natural silver grey) how would you describe the colour /effect on your hair?

FrangipaniBlue · 24/08/2019 08:36

Another vote for bleach London silver, I use the shampoo and conditioner

WingBingo · 24/08/2019 09:55

I’ve been using Elvive, the new one. My balayage is still white at the ends after 6 months.

It’s usually half price in supermarkets too.

Propertyofhood · 24/08/2019 12:44

@Puppylucky it's quite hard to describe and is really subtle. I think the Silver shampoo gives an ashier cooler finish, literally like a 'silver', whereas this one gives a slightly warmer, pinkier (but not pink!), literally more 'pearly' finish!

The pics I have seen online of this shampoo are not the way it comes out on my hair, if I want it as pearly pinky as that I have use the dye in conditioner method, but it defo tones out the yellow.

For reference, I have probably 60% grey hair but it is very short and I scalp bleach and tone it every few months so it's a very light blonde. I think as well, these shampoos more on bleached hair as its more hideously dry porous so if you have natural hair it will be different again. I think it's worth a try, it could look lovely on grey hair actually!

Oh also with this product, if you were only going to buy the shampoo or conditioner, the conditioner is actually better for toning than the shampoo.

timeforawine · 24/08/2019 12:53

Following. I'm light blonde now but soon going white/silver so will be needing a good purple shampoo, currently using Charles Worthington.
My hairdresser will be using Olaplex

Nothingfallingdowntoday · 24/08/2019 17:09

Another vote for Fanola. Great stuff recommended by my hairdresser who is über fussy about quality products and she was spot on the stuff is fab but I now buy on amazon rather than pay salon mark up!

Almahart · 24/08/2019 18:58

I’ve tried them all and Fanola is by far the best

CeeceeBloomingdale · 24/08/2019 20:15

Osmo is the most pigmented but I dont like the tone on my hair. I'm currently using bleach London pearlescent. It's not pink one me but the tone works better on me than bluey purple somehow

JacquettaW · 24/08/2019 20:29

Watching with interest. My Fudge supply will run out soon and I'm trying to decide whether to replenish or go for something else

Livpool · 24/08/2019 20:58

I like the Elvive one - it is nice and moisturising

Volluto · 25/08/2019 09:27

How often do you use it?

Puppylucky · 25/08/2019 09:30

@Propertyofhoid Thanks so much for your reply - really appreciate the detailed information!. The effect sounds lovely and softer than some of the silver shampoos which can make my hair look a bit too steely. Will definitely give it a go now!

Puppylucky · 25/08/2019 09:44

Oh and to add my purple shampoo / conditioner recommendations I use a variety of different ones. The White Hot Brilliant Shampoo for white / grey hair and the TIGI Catwalk Violet conditioner are two of my favourites as they both have optical brighteners that make my hair look really silvery and not too purple.
