Tell me about your "hideous" clothes that you absolutely adore

Just that really. I have a few pieces that I love and think are fabulous that, either by the standards of fashion or the standards of people i know, are awful. Usually these pieces tend to be gifted to me or are vintage type stuff that I find at flea markets. Mine are

Green velvet high-trousers with gold glitter threaded through them (i know but honestly I put these on and I feel brilliant). They are proper "man repeller" trousers
Tight leather combat trousers (I tend to wear with chunky jumpers in winter)
A bright red, handmade knee-length wrap skirt with gigantic front pockets
A grey wool cape
A baggy, outside midi length Burberry Trench (eBay, 80 quid, had it tailored but it's still baggy!)
Super wide-leg powder blue vintage 1970s Ozzy Clark trousers

What are yours?

Your wardrobe sounds fabulous 🤩

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 12/08/2019 08:49

Nothing as exciting as you OP, but:

Leggings.

I wear them round the house practically every day.
Often with a thick pair of ill-matching socks on over the top and a ratty old t-shirt and cardi.

(I don't inflict it on the outside world though)

Miseryisabutterfly · 12/08/2019 08:49

I have some dusty (dusky?) pink cropped flares with a leather lace up crotch, which sound absolutely hideous but I think look good on me 😂 I’ve had them for a couple of years but am scared to wear them for fear of judgement!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2019 09:15

I bought a weird M&S dress that makes me look like a small fat pumpkin that has escaped from 1977. Weirdly though, people tell me how nice it looks every time I wear it.

IhaveALooBrush · 12/08/2019 09:55

I have some seriously hideous 80s shockers in my wardrobe.
One has a scoop back, huge puff sleeves, a massive bow on the bum AND a sparkly peplum. It's horrendous and I love it.
I also have one with sparkly big roses all over it.
I have a pair of 1970s purple wool trousers. They aren't flares, clearly they were meant for older people. I walk about in them feeling like Margot from The Good Life.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 12/08/2019 10:03

I regret not buying an embellished pharaoh's head kaftan I saw in a charity shop very recently.... it was so grim it was cool to my mind.

Tarocchi · 12/08/2019 10:23

I have a huge baggy 90s red mohair jumper kitted for me by a friend when I was pregnant. It is now bald with holes in it and much stretched but I still wear it over long sleeved T-shirts and leggings.

I have several pairs of flares including purple velvet and green crushed velvet as well as some Boohoo patterned loons. I also have some pinky tinged shiny jeans - hard to describe but when I wore them out recently someone said 'I love your leather trousers'. They aren't leather but they are shiny!

I also have some frilled Capri pants. They are just normal tight pants to just below the knee but then they have a little flared hem with a criss-cross lace up detail on the sides. My daughter always rolls her eyes when I wear them but I don't give a shit.

Finally I am a lover of the platform shoe/wedge/flatform and have loads of vintage pairs (I'm always on the prowl on eBay!) - summer ones, winter one, boots even flip-flops. They just suit my foot/leg shape, give height but without that horrible foot tipping forward thing you get with conventional heels.

I suppose you would say my style is a cross between late 70s/early 80s Kate Bush/Stevie Nicks/Judie Tzuke.

In everything, furniture, car, decor, music etc. I just like old vintagey things and that goes for clothes and shoes too!

If you can't be yourself who can you be?

Fatted · 12/08/2019 10:26

God I thought I was bad for still loving boot cut and flared jeans!! I will never give those bad boys up.

Benjispruce · 12/08/2019 10:30

I don’t have anything that old as I don’t have the storage. Would love to keep everything.

Binforky · 12/08/2019 10:32

@Fatted me too. I look like an over filled sausage in skinny Jean's and just love my boot cut too much.

Benjispruce · 12/08/2019 10:33

Anyone else find they go quite hippy in the summer?
In the winter I live in dark colours, chunky grey/ black polo necks, leather skirt maybe, black opaques.
Summer is all kaftans, big earrings, patterned trousers Grin

DoesThisLookRight · 12/08/2019 10:35

I’m terrible for wearing t-shorts with mildly amusing slogans/ pictures on. I know they’re super naff but they make me smile. I’m currently wearing a T-shirt with a picture of David Attenborough holding hands with an octopus.

Benjispruce · 12/08/2019 10:36

Ha ha where do you get them?

Miseryisabutterfly · 12/08/2019 12:33

Lol @DoesThisLookRight this is my favourite T-shirt at the moment

DoesThisLookRight · 12/08/2019 12:37

Shock I love that so much!

Mouthfulofquiz · 12/08/2019 12:39

I have a jewel studded denim jacket which is ridiculous but feels amazing to wear, really heavy and cold! Plus little kids always tell me they love it which really makes me smile!!

MinesaPinot · 12/08/2019 12:44

Well according to everyone on here, the Zara spotty dress! but I love it.

HarrietSchulenberg · 12/08/2019 13:18

My entire wardrobe could be optimistically termed bag-lady-chic but is actually just lots of weird, baggy pinafores and tunics worn with either leggings or trousers underneath. Yup, I'm no style icon but, having tried on more high street fashion clothes than I care to remember, I confess that this is my look as I feel comfortable in it.

Shitonthebloodything · 12/08/2019 15:47

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I think we have the same hideous item. Is it this dress? I just bought it in the m&s 90% sale and I'm dying to wear it but have nowhere appropriate so I'm just going to have to be a massively overdressed dickhead on the school run.

LemonAddict · 12/08/2019 16:36

THAT Zara dress for me too MinesaPinot, lots of people on here loathe it, I love it.

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 12/08/2019 16:44

I tried to love the spotty Zara dress but I could not.

OP posts:
Alsohuman · 12/08/2019 17:04

Yes, the spotty dress. I love mine and no, I don’t look Amish in it, the red lipstick takes care of that.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2019 17:21

Shiton - That's similar to mine but mine has got white flowers on it. I think it should work with a biker jacket and boots once the weather is a bit cooler. And biker jackets are great for dressing dresses down!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2019 17:22

Loving the sound of the David Attenborough t-shirt!
