Capsule wardrobes

cheesenpickles · 07/08/2019 17:09

Has anybody successfully managed to create a capsule wardrobe? Or is this a pipe dream to make us but expensive things?

I've started listing all my clothes I've not worn in years/probably won't wear again and plan to slowly but surely replace my entire wardrobe with things I'll actually wear. I've made a list of what I want to eventually have and looked for better quality and sustainable type things about it's coming out at about £1k. Obviously won't but all this at once, but am I putting a lot of effort and time into something that's actually a bit of a waste of time?

I've discovered Stylebook isn't available on Android Sad

PeriComoToes · 15/08/2019 15:49

I've just downloaded 'yourcloset' for Android as it allows you to take your own photos. Haven't used it yet so no idea if it's as good as stylebook (bummer that it's only for iPhones).

Going out now but might give it a go tomorrow.

paniquer · 15/08/2019 19:57

I'm on android to.
Am going to have a look at some of these when I get home.

Thanks for the outfit shuffle tip! I’ve put a few things together that I otherwise might not have done. I’ve banned myself from buying more clothes until I’ve exhausted the options I have!
Although I do think a pair of new boots might be a good investment Grin

cheesenpickles · 20/08/2019 12:12

I wrote a huge list of "things I was missing" @Arsenicinthesugarbowl and in my purging/decluttering I have found numerous of said items I'd forgotten about. Blush

cheese that’s hilarious! I was adamant I had no dresses when chatting to a friend and needed some new ones for work. I actually have 22 dresses in total and 15 are suitable for work. Loads just folded up in drawers that I haven’t emptied. BlushBlushBlush The shame.

cheesenpickles · 20/08/2019 20:54

I think I had about 27. I thought I'd trim it down as I never really wear them and I've still got about 6 in my pared down wardrobe. Oh well, at least I don't have to buy any brown boots now. Grin

In the last couple of days I’ve introduced a black leather bag £50 from eBay (Mulberry...and I think it’s genuine and the seller made a massive mistake with the listing....as in no reserve price!), a yellow cross body bag, and a leopard print clutch. Also a pair of grey skinnies.

I need:

Leopard print flats and heels - an absolute staple for me - my flatties are worn out so must replace and I haven’t yet seen a pair of heels I like enough

Grey blazer

Black wool smart coat for work. Either a pea coat or maybe a thigh length one.

Naice tan leather knee high boots.

SpeckledyHen · 22/08/2019 06:23

ememem84 For peace of mind you could get your bag authenticated on the Purse Forum . forum.purseblog.com/threads/authenticate-this-mulberry.901871/page-1035#post-33289586

That app is great. I’ve just been looking at the stats for most worn and not worn at all. Even though I’ve way more than 33 items, I’m consistently wearing 30 items, and that’s when I’m making an effort to put different outfits together and look nice.
I don’t want to make any massive changes yet, as it’s early days. But I can see it being very helpful in identifying things that are just taking up space.

Although, I may need to get a separate wardrobe just for clothes I don’t wear but have ridiculous sentimental attachments Grin

cheesenpickles · 22/08/2019 09:05

Haha! I know what you mean @PamelaTodd I just got rid of the clothes I was wearing when I met my husband and the dress I wore on our first date. They actually fit me but I'm not 23 anymore and gold disco pants aren't great for the school run. Grin

@SpeckledyHen thanks for the link! I’ll check it out. To be fair though even if it isn’t genuine £50 is what I’d spend on a half decent leather bag (and this one is real leather).

The seller did raise a case with eBay saying they hadn’t put a reserve on and eBay sided with me.

ememem84 · 22/08/2019 09:11

@cheesenpickles why on earth not?! What’s wrong with gold disco pants?!?! Haha.

I’ve kept my “girl band” skirt. A silver sequinned miniskirt. I love it. Can’t get rid. May never wear it again. But love.

Also kept a pair of black sequinned hot pants. I hadn’t worn them for years but wore them to my works Christmas party last year. With a floaty white too thick tights and boots. Then found out the next week I was pregnant with dd....

cheesenpickles · 22/08/2019 09:14

Lol fair point and I did just buy a rainbow sequin bomber jacket as well. Lol.

I wish there was a stylebook for make up. I've just cleared my make up stash out and desperately trying to use things that I've not worn for ages (hello metallic eyeshadow creams!).

ememem84 · 22/08/2019 11:43

Oh and rainbow sequin bomber? Going to need a pic of that!! Sounds amazing!

cheesenpickles · 22/08/2019 12:01

Ta da! Despite its utter flamboyance it's actually surprisingly wearable. I go to a lot of festivals and I'm thinking night our over a tee and high waisted black skinnies and heels/little black dress.

The website picture does not do it justice. But the one of t being worn...fab. U. Lou’s.

cheesenpickles · 22/08/2019 14:39

It's SO sparkly and very me. I've been hunting random stalls to find the one for a while. So excited to wear it this weekend, almost wishing the sun wasn't so bloody lovely Grin
