I bought a Per Una dress, after years of being a bit sneery about Per Una, and I feel no shame

I do look as though I have been dressed from a 'modest clothing' catalogue, but I am cool and comfortable so I simply don't care. It has acres and acres of fabric but it's light and floaty and I'm wondering whether I should buy it in another colour too. In fact it's so airy that it takes a little getting used to as it doesn't really touch skin much from the bust downwards so I feel a bit naked.

It's this one.

Oh, I meant to say, feel free to mock. Yes, it's frumpy. Yes, I understand you wouldn't be caught dead in it. Yes, I probably do look like a marquee on the move when I walk down the street. I don't care because I'm cool. Grin

Very Similar to the Toast dresses that are £150+, and several that are a little closer cut in Whistles and Ceffin for megabucks too. You have found a unicorn in M&S!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/08/2019 13:49

It has pockets too. Shock

And I got 20% off (code 20NEW, although I'm not sure if it's still valid).

Haha, I knew it would be that dress. I have it in the other colourway and it is so damn comfy I’m not giving a shiny about what other people think. I also try never to get sunburned so it’s perfect.

RickOShay · 01/08/2019 13:54

I really really like it.

Swishyswash · 01/08/2019 13:57

I like that dress but sadly not my colour.

I have this one and I love it, so comfortable.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 01/08/2019 14:21

That green stripey one is nice

Pomgirl · 01/08/2019 14:22

Oh tempted to buy!

MidnightAtTheOasis · 01/08/2019 14:34

I love the fact that the user feedback says “fits a little big”. No shit Sherlock.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/08/2019 14:38

Yes, it really really does fit a bit big. Go down a size if you like a snug fit around the bust. I specifically wanted it to be loose so I bought my actual size, but I wear an e-cup and I could get at least another two boobs in there. Grin

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/08/2019 14:41

I would also say that it's supposed to fit big, that's the design. My actual size fits quite well across the shoulders, if I went down a size it would still fit across the shoulders but it would be snug and it would pull a bit if I folded my arms.

I have the other colour and it's fabulous!

And much applause for the pockets.

I'm always bemused by how monumentally happy pockets make me Grin

flumpybear · 01/08/2019 14:45

Does it matter which shop it came from, if you like it, you like it - and if it's an awful fit or looks bad the it's awful ... label doesn't really matter that much surely?!

NoBaggyPants · 01/08/2019 14:51

My initial response was "oh jesus", but then I saw it was cotton and it does look comfy for a hot day.

And you can use it for a tent if you get stuck somewhere.

(I'd wear it, but that's not something others should aspire to!)

I might get this one with it too in my order! Some really nice dresses on m&s right now Grin

FamilyOfAliens · 01/08/2019 14:55

It’s lovely - I wonder if I could shorten the sleeves? I don’t like full-length sleeves.

Sarcelle · 01/08/2019 14:56

I am waiting for their Immodest range.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/08/2019 14:59

FamilyOfAliens there is a button cuff, so you could undo that and roll the sleeves. Or there is a seam right on the elbow, so you could take off the sleeve there and just hem it.

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/08/2019 15:01

I think it's lovely but I'm not a fan of love hearts otherwise I'd be tempted too. I'm very surprised about the lack of comedy buttons and unexpected frills.

Barbarafromblackpool · 01/08/2019 15:01

I was (randomly) in m n s yesterday and saw this dress and thought how I liked it! What's the other colour?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/08/2019 15:03

It is comfy NoBaggyPants and the cotton is very, very lightweight. Some of the reviews thought it wasn't good quality because the cotton is too light, but I don't think it would work in normal weight cotton because of the amount of material.

I will bear in mind the alternative tent usage, I could probably get the whole family in there, but I don't think it would be water-tight. Grin

OP posts:
BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/08/2019 15:06

The other colour is khaki with white and red bits. Here. They also had a white one a couple of months ago with a dense green leafy pattern but that has sold out.

I love this style. Going to get!

I've just bought this which I love.

What do you guys think about this one? Don't usually wear dresses as I'm self conscious of big boobs and tummy, but tempted by this.....
