I bought a Per Una dress, after years of being a bit sneery about Per Una, and I feel no shame

I do look as though I have been dressed from a 'modest clothing' catalogue, but I am cool and comfortable so I simply don't care. It has acres and acres of fabric but it's light and floaty and I'm wondering whether I should buy it in another colour too. In fact it's so airy that it takes a little getting used to as it doesn't really touch skin much from the bust downwards so I feel a bit naked.

It's this one.

Love it, it would be too long on me but it looks waaay more expensive than it is.

RickOShay · 01/08/2019 16:19

It’s a yes from me as well @Circe32

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/08/2019 16:23

I think you should try that on Circe32 but I have a big stomach and usually find that wrap dresses don't sit very well on me, although I have had one or two brilliant ones. Also, it's viscose which I usually don't like the feel of.

i like the OP’s dress! Though, frankly, I would buy just about anything now if it was cotton, it’s like bloody gold dust, unless you can afford Toast.

TheFlis12345 · 01/08/2019 16:34

I have the green stripy dress and the OP dress in a different fabric! I am considering purchasing the actual OPs dress as well. They have both had loads of compliments (and I work in a painfully trendy media type office) and a lovely lady actually stopped me in the street to say how much she loved the dress like the OPs! Grin

TheFlis12345 · 01/08/2019 16:35

Oh and anyone considering purchasing who has a Sparks card, check your account. They have just given me 20% of women’s dresses!

LizzieSiddal · 01/08/2019 16:44

I really like your dress OP.

I was in M&S today. I usually walk straight through the clothes and avoid looking, but it all looked different (calm and organised) so I had a look around and there was quite a few things I liked Shock. I’m definitely going to go back in when I’ve got time to try a few things on.

shumway · 01/08/2019 16:47

Lovely dresses. If I didn't have cankles I'd be tempted.

FamilyOfAliens · 01/08/2019 18:03

Thanks for the sleeve tips, OP!

LizzieSiddal · 01/08/2019 18:05

I've just bought the dress in khaki- I got 2 sizes to try.

Thanks for the heads up OP!

AquaPris · 01/08/2019 21:43

Lots of material and modesty is super fashionable now

Laquila · 02/08/2019 07:12

I bought a lovely pair of linen mix shorts the other day - didn’t even realise they were Per Una until after I’d bought them so things are DEFINITELY changing! I love all these dresses.

Sarcelle · 02/08/2019 08:28

I think cotton is being introduced into high street shops. I bought a jumper from Next the other day that was only 25 quid. I thought it was mock cotton for that price but when I looked at label it is 100% cotton.

I have noticed that Per Una has undergone a makeover. It has a more sophisticated look. No big buttons, or appliquéd butterflies, glitter or random frills. Perhaps the penny is dropping.

TheFlis12345 · 02/08/2019 09:18

I bought my dresses after trawling round Westfield and only being able to find cheap feeling nylon dresses (even in a lot of the not so cheap shops) which are vile and sweaty in hot weather. Other than uber expensive places, M&S was the only shop that had a decent selection of natural fibres.

MinesaPinot · 02/08/2019 09:25

I've got the same style that I bought back in April I think - it's a cream background with a black and red print. I've worn it so much, belted and unbelted, and it is so cool and comfortable. I roll the sleeves up, and often wear it with my trainers to give it a bit more of an edgy look.

I love it but again, everyone is amazed when I tell them it's from M&S.

TheFlis12345 · 02/08/2019 09:46

I really wanted that one but by the time I saw it, it was out of stock everywhere. It’s gorgeous!

goldpendant · 02/08/2019 13:21

I saw two very nice floaty skirts there this morning...... Blush

FamilyOfAliens · 02/08/2019 22:42

OP, just bought the khaki and red one in store and it’s gorgeous on! I actually like the sleeves and could roll them up as you suggest.

I may have also bought another dress while I was there, what with the 20% Sparks discount and all Blush

Almahart · 03/08/2019 08:14

I would be all over that dress if either of those colours suited me. Love it

MrsGrindah · 03/08/2019 08:18

Love it but I’m a short arse so would look like a dale trundling along cos you can’t see my feet

CountFosco · 03/08/2019 08:35

Love it. Was eying up some of the Per Una cotton dresses earlier this year and would have bought if they had pockets. Might have to try that khaki one now since it does. Note to M&S: tell us if you put in proper pockets, I won't buy a dress without.

I bought some gorgeous gingham cropped wide legged trousers from there earlier this year and have had loads of compliments on them - same style, same fabric. They also have large proper pockets.

mizu · 03/08/2019 09:41

I am 46 and just posted on another thread that my fav shops are TOAST (mostly from eBay), And Other Stories and Urban Outfitters.
To me M&S is only for underwear. My mum loves M&S! BUT I too have been swayed by some of the dresses in there at the moment. I have never bought any clothes in there before but may well be tempted.

daisychain01 · 03/08/2019 09:47

@Circe32

👍 from me. Lovely colour and I like the flowing hemline and cape sleeves. Tan leather sandals with mid-heel maybe?

daisychain01 · 03/08/2019 09:48

OP lovely rustic colours and light flowing shape. Nice one
