What do you think of this dress?

So I have received my second (and last!) dress from an online Chinese site. I'm looking for a dress for a family wedding. See the first photo. My husband says there is no shape to it. Is he right?

The second photo is of me in a dress that I like for reference.

What do you think of this dress?

Its not overly flattering right now but its a beautiful dress!

It just needs ironing and taking in a little at the waist? Has potential to be lovely.

TrySinging · 19/07/2019 14:52

First one is dreadful. Second one you look v nice in, but think it's maybe more of a day dress than for a wedding?

Wildorchidz · 19/07/2019 14:56

Your husband is right. It’s shapeless and not flattering. Maybe take it to a good dressmaker and see what you could do with it.

needsome · 19/07/2019 14:58

Could you maybe add a nice belt or a fabric belt to tie around the waist to the first one?
Might change how it looks with a belt and an iron .

CacenCrunch · 19/07/2019 14:58

It's too big

moonpiggle · 19/07/2019 15:04

The first dress is hideous, sorry. It looks too big also! The second is nice but needs more to jazz it up..accesories maybe. What about a brighter coloured dress?

Summer23 · 19/07/2019 15:05

Have you put this on before? I remember seeing a similar thread. Poor quality dress unfortunately. You can get something much nicer.

jomaIone · 19/07/2019 15:07

Not a nice fit,and maybe a bit bridesmaidy!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/07/2019 15:07

Will you stop ordering off these dodgy Chinese websites OP??? This is the second time you've ordered something that makes you look like a sack of spuds, and you have a perfectly nice figure!

John Lewis has a sale on at the moment and the most cursory of glances showed lots of lovely dresses in styles that would actually suit you. Step away from the Chinese websites!

Tootytata · 19/07/2019 15:08

Summer23 - I bought 2 dresses from this site. I put a photo of the first dress on here. Most people said it was too old for me and it wasn't a nice dress!

I think this second dress (first photo) is better but still not very fitted / flattering.

The second photo is just for reference so you can see what I look like in something that (I think) is flattering. Sadly it's not dressy enough to wear to a wedding otherwise I would've worn it!

Greebols - I will do! Grin I ordered 2 dresses from them. This is the second one and it's just arrived. Trust me, I won't be wasting my money anymore on these sites. I've learned my lesson.

I thought this dress was better than the first sack! Maybe I can save it by taking it to a dressmaker for alterations. The first dress couldn't be saved...it was just a bad dress.

OP posts:
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/07/2019 15:11

Right, what size are you?

Tootytata · 19/07/2019 15:12

I'm an 18 Blush

moonpiggle · 19/07/2019 15:15

Have a look on Asos they have a curve section with some gorgeous dresses..also wrap dresses are so flattering for us blessed with curves 😉

Tootytata · 19/07/2019 15:16

I tried a Coast dress the other day in an 18 but couldn't zip it up! Blush

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/07/2019 15:17

This is pretty:

This is a similar style to the dress you like, and I seem to remember you like purple?

This?:

This?

And that's a two minute search. Honestly, there's lots of lovely dresses out there.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/07/2019 15:21

The first dress is terrible but also, you really don't look like an 18, you have a great figure, I'd have honestly guessed 12/14.

Longdistance · 19/07/2019 15:21

John Lewis, Debenhams and Dorothy Perkins have sale on. Loads of dresses in an 18. I will also recommend Zalando as they have lots of DP and similar labels to what JL and Debenhams sells. They also have millions of other brands at reasonable prices.
Zalando does free delivery over a certain amount like £30? I think. They have an app, you’ll be looking for hours as there’s tonnes of nice stuff on there. I’m an 18 too btw.

Tootytata · 19/07/2019 15:22

Greebols - thank you Smile some nice dresses there. I have my personal shopper apt at JL next Saturday so will try them on!

OP posts:
Tootytata · 19/07/2019 15:24

Ihavebrillohair - thanks for your kind words. I'm definitely an 18. My middle bit is big after having my second baby! I would love to be a size 16 again...I managed to look almost slim when I was a size 16!

OP posts:
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/07/2019 15:24

Good! I'm sure you'll find something you look beautiful in.

BloomedAgain · 19/07/2019 15:29

I think you just need to go try things on in real life to see what suits you now. What style did you enjoy wearing pre DC?
Can you go for a personal shopper session in a store near you?
Otherwise some Bombshell dresses would flatter you.

NoBaggyPants · 19/07/2019 15:30

If you couldn't do up a size 18 then order a 20 and 22 too. Far better to get something that fits than try to kid yourself you're a smaller size.

(Not meant cruelly, I did the same thing myself for years.)

BloomedAgain · 19/07/2019 15:31

Sore xposted. Good luck with the personal shopping.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 19/07/2019 15:33

OP I honestly cannot believe you are an 18!
You look no where near- the dodgy Chinese dresses do not flatter. It’s not cheap it’s a false economy as it’s throwing money away/ assume you can’t return?
