I’ve been on a lifestyle overhaul and got to slightly below my target weight last week. It’s taken 3+ years as I had a lot to loose. I kept readjusting my target to try and reduce my thighs but it’s not happening so I’m embracing my curves.

In a few weeks time we have my DHs work summer ball. It’s not black tie and cocktail dresses but it’s at a posh venue so I think a dress will be appropriate.

I used to have a very large tummy and large thighs so I used to wear A line dresses (only occasionally to weddings) to hide the lumps and bumps. This is the only style of dress I’ve ever worn. I was a pear shape before. I’ve recently ordered a few A line dresses and they look absolutely awful on me so I have returned them.

I’ve now no idea how to dress for my new shape and could do with some help with styles.

I’m open to all suggestions and colours.

I am 5ft 3
Budget up to about £100 for a dress, can go up slightly for the right dress.
Not too low cut showing boob.
Preferably not maxi dress due to my height.

Looser fitting styles I need a size 6. Tighter styles I need a 8 to accommodate my thighs.

You look great. Can you book a personal styling session at John Lewis? It’s free and no pressure to buy.

Veryveryouting · 14/07/2019 17:25

You look great OP and so do your thighs.

I think a wrap dress that ties/tucks in at the waist would look nice.

FirmlyRooted · 14/07/2019 21:28

Why don't you order a bunch of dresses in different styles from Asos to try on? Stay clear of your usual a-line and go for different styles. Unless you can get to the shops to try on?

You look amazing, congratulations on getting there!

Futureplanning · 14/07/2019 21:55

Congratulations on your weight loss, you look amazing (and do not have large thighs).

I would go for a slim fitting Bardot style, something like the attached, this is on ASOS.

Wow you look amazing! I would think you would look great in anything! I wonder if you've been used to wearing clothes that skimmed your figure so not to highlight any problem areas, whereas now you could wear something more fitted to draw attention to your lovely new figure.

I agree with trying a few different styles on to see what you like .

Tolleshunt · 15/07/2019 00:18

Wow, you look amazing, OP! You definitely do not have chunky thighs, you could wear a lot of styles and look great. Do you mind me asking how you lost the weight? I need to do similar.

What about this, I have been drooling over it, but am too chunky.

Everyone is going to recommend bodycon because you are so slim but that's not the most fashionable look right now.

At 5'3" do you need something from a petite range? If you are trying on clothes that are more fitted then average height clothes will be more obviously ill fitting on you with the waist at the wrong point.

Agree you just need to try on a load of stuff and see what you like but at your height and size you will look lovely in most things now unless they are drowning you.

ImSoFlufffy · 15/07/2019 08:15

Thanks so much for the links and inspiration.

I think I’m going to order a few different styles in to try.

I absolutely love the Bardot styles as I do wear those type of tops as I have stretch marks just under the armpit but on my arm and it hides them beautifully. But I’m getting a bit better at not caring.

Wrap dresses are lovely I think I’m going to order a few in to try. Maybe a navy and a blue.

See I’m very much drawn to the bodycon styles as I love how they look on the models but I’m not sure they will work for me without some sort of pull me in slip under. My leggings are quite thick and hide a multitude of sins underneath but I will order one to try on and see. I’m just not sure if I have enough confidence to wear one as it’s so far out of the comfort zone.

Good point about the petite sizes I will definitely order one to try perhaps a wrap dress to see if the waist is in the right place.

That FC dress is absolutely lovely.

Tolleshunt I lost it by going lower carb with some intermittent fasting thrown in. I started omitting things gradually. I’m not strictly keto or anything like that but I’ve cut out potatoes rice pasta and bread and have more vegetables instead. I still order whatever I want when I go out and once a month still have a full roast but the majority of the time stick to lower carb. Also I’ve switched over from all low fat options to full fat.

You look amazing. How about a midi length dress with a pleated skirt so a looser fit on the Bolton you may feel more comfortable with. I saw a lady on her way to a wedding in a nude coloured one at the weekend and she looked stunning. Something like this

Bottom not Bolton!

MissMarple0203 · 15/07/2019 19:21

Look on FB or Instagram - styled by Susie...amazing FB group and you can get a personalized style analysis for £45 lots of different packages available....I would recommend!!

managedmis · 15/07/2019 19:21

Can I ask how much you lost altogether, op?

You look fabulous

Iamthewombat · 15/07/2019 19:27

Well done. That ASOS dress Mocha78 linked to is great. Stylish, dressed up but not obviously sexy.

SesameSam · 15/07/2019 19:30

You’ve got a lovely, slim figure and can wear most styles. Well done on your hard work!

I’d go to a department store and try loads on if I were you

ThatCurlyGirl · 15/07/2019 19:40

Running around like a loon this eve so no time for proper thoughts but I had to say... Fuck me you look FANTASTIC!

Ohyesiam · 15/07/2019 19:41

You have a really lovely figure, including you thighs.

ImSoFlufffy · 15/07/2019 22:04

Ah thanks so much for the lovely messages. I’ve lost 6 stone 4. It’s really strange as my heads not caught up yet as it’s been a very gradual loss.

Actually going to a department store is a fantastic idea, we don’t have a John Lewis but we do have a huge debenhams and they seem to have a great sale on at the moment. Atleast I can try loads of different styles on.

I’m loving all these suggestions they are all so lovely.

I’ve just been browsing the silk Fred site and came across this dress, I think I probably too pale for this colour but I really like this style. Is this classed as bodycon? I really want to avoid the bodycon fabric but I really do like this style and have no idea what to search for.

Blazer dresses super sexy and kind of androgynous so always feel less on show - this one from Berksha is down to £20 from £50:

Another one here if you say you're self conscious of your arms (I honestly can't see why you'd be self conscious of anything, mate your figure is BANGING!)

£20 in the sale too...

You look amazing, OP.

Go shopping and try on many dresses in many shops. Make sure you're wearing good underwear and have put on a bit of make-up so you don't feel demoralised under the hideous changing room lighting in most stores.

Destinesia · 16/07/2019 12:27

@SummerHouse I was also going to suggest the SilkFred Judith Dress in Navy!

Lucked · 16/07/2019 18:45

A wiggle or tulip shape dress would look good

asos wiggle

I suppose this is a little a-line but it is floaty so I think might work

SummerHouse · 16/07/2019 21:38

@Destinesia I have two. Black and royal blue. Wish I had gone for navy but can't justify three!! Such a flattering dress and pretty cheap!
