I’ve been on a lifestyle overhaul and got to slightly below my target weight last week. It’s taken 3+ years as I had a lot to loose. I kept readjusting my target to try and reduce my thighs but it’s not happening so I’m embracing my curves.

In a few weeks time we have my DHs work summer ball. It’s not black tie and cocktail dresses but it’s at a posh venue so I think a dress will be appropriate.

I used to have a very large tummy and large thighs so I used to wear A line dresses (only occasionally to weddings) to hide the lumps and bumps. This is the only style of dress I’ve ever worn. I was a pear shape before. I’ve recently ordered a few A line dresses and they look absolutely awful on me so I have returned them.

I’ve now no idea how to dress for my new shape and could do with some help with styles.

I’m open to all suggestions and colours.

I am 5ft 3
Budget up to about £100 for a dress, can go up slightly for the right dress.
Not too low cut showing boob.
Preferably not maxi dress due to my height.

Looser fitting styles I need a size 6. Tighter styles I need a 8 to accommodate my thighs.

Is the Judith dress nice fabric?

NationMcKinley · 16/07/2019 21:51

Oh well done! You look fantastic. I agree with a previous poster who suggested going to somewhere like John Lewis and getting help from a personal shopper. Flowers

Wiggle dresses would look great on you. Usually have short sleeve, nice fit for your shape and a good length for your height.

The silkfred Judith dress. I've got the navy it's lovely on and the splits not as short as it looks on the model. I'm going to order the black and leopard print because I just love it. They have loads of other colours too.
You look fab op congratulations on your weight loss.

It's a nice silhouette. I'm very short so the slit would be quite modest on me.

Sorry - no style advice, but I just wanted to say that you look absolutely fantastic, OP. Please, please don't waste another moment worrying about your thighs - you have a gorgeous, slim and toned figure!

I’ve not managed to get to the shops yet but my friend lent me a couple of bodycon dresses just to try on.

They were both Bardot style, one was plain black I liked the top half but I can’t wear that type of dress as it’s just too fitting for me and shows every lump and bump. The other was floral and I didn’t like it I felt to OTT in it.

She also gave me a fitted skirt with a lace frill at the bottom, I quite liked the style actually from the side it looked really nice.

So I think I’m aiming for something plain in colour and not bodycon. I like navy as I have some nice shoes to go with it.

What do you think of these? I like them but I think two may be too fitted?

Sorry I know slightly off topic but you look amazing!! Can I ask how you lost your weight?

Chipsahoy · 19/07/2019 09:57

I'm a similar size and wear most things except a line dresses.
I like bodycon but for a posh do I'd probably wear a dress that nips in at the waist with a skater style type skirt. I have a lovely one that is high in the neck and low in the back.
Go shop and try every dress on that you like the look of in New look, next and topshop, maybe river island too.

I think the quiz dress looks a little cheap?

By the way you look amazing 😍

Definitely recommend a personal shopper at Debenhams. Just give her your budget and she'll find you a lovely dress that you maybe wouldn't have even looked at on the hanger. There's no obligation to buy but it'll at least give you an idea of what styles now suit you.
