For the love of god, please can someone dress me (plus size)

Please!

I’m a size 24, low hanging belly, I’m fat...working on being less fat but it’s obviously not going to happen immediately and I’m so so fed up of looking shit

I live in skinny jeans and sack like tops...I recently bought a cardigan that wasn’t oversized, it was more fitted and actually looks good and is reasonably flattering so I’m trying to move away from certainly the sack like tops and maybe even the skinny jeans (I do love a skinny jean mind you)

Please, please can someone help me, I’m so totally lost

And where can I buy a kick ass plus size bra?!

Thank you x

I’m working on it too. Best dressed fat woman I know lives in maxi dresses with a leather jacket. Maxi dresses don’t suit my gardening and dog walk lifestyle, but I bought a couple of short linen dresses in Next and their denim jacket, and I feel great in them. They are in the sale.
Weirdly sorting out my clothes seemed to help me make some changes, so the new clothes I bought last month are already a bit big.
Bras :I just discovered that Gossard glossies are being made again, best bra I ever had and they come in big sizes, so I got one of those.I also like fantasie bras.

slithytove · 13/07/2019 16:15

Check out fullerfigurefullerbust on Facebook or instagram. I was where you were, size 20, fed up of not dressing well and hating how I looked, so for want of a better way to put it I embraced my size. Following that blogger gave me lots of ideas and funnily enough, once I was able to put them into practice and take a bit more pride in myself, weight loss came much easier. I think it’s because I didn’t hate myself any more. That was 10 months ago and I’ve lost 4 stone, now a size 14.

ASOS, boohoo, and new look all have great plus size ranges

Teddybear45 · 13/07/2019 16:16

As you’re tall I would try wide culottes that end mid-calf with sleeveless or fluttery sleeved tops that skim your body. If you’re relatively toned then you could try a culotte jumpsuit from asos - they look fantastic if your waist is smaller than your hips / boobs and can be very forgiving if you’re apple shaped.

I would also suggest skater dresses or tulip / baggy waisted skirts to give you a bit of an edge in the style stakes. They look fantastic on plus sized women.

For bras I’d suggest John Lewis as they do a wide range of larger band / cup sizes from a variety of good quality brands.

Thank you!

So was I, neverknew what would fit in the morning. Hateful. Getting a couple of different and better items really helped
Good luck

Deadringer · 13/07/2019 19:33

I had to step away from the skinny jeans, they do you no favours when you are plus size. Straight leg or even boot cut look way better, that's all I have though, so will follow this with interest.

Teddybear45 · 13/07/2019 20:49

Whether skinny jeans look good or not depends on body type rather than dress size. They nearly always look best on a small waist / curvy hip / tidy leg figure.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 13/07/2019 20:54

I actually look pretty good in skinny jeans, just the top I struggle with and I’m getting a bit bored of them

How old are you? I would second Fantasie or Curvy Kate for bras. Get a bra that lifts your tits up where they belong, and you will look much better.

Skinny jeans are fine if you have good legs. I wear both skinny and straight and have a pair of skinnies from M & S that do wonders for me. Next also good for jeans if you’re an apple shape.

Definitely go for more fitted clothes - they are more flattering. You don’t want to look like a marquee. I have dresses from Boden that fit well and give me a waist. Their cropped cardigans also look nice and less matronly than a longer one. The Next linen dress that they do every summer is also flattering if you get the V necked one.

What is your budget? I have some dresses and tops from Yumi and I-scenery that are a bit different and reasonably priced. (You can get from Debenhams and a John Lewis on click and collect and try on in the fitting rooms rather than mail order). M & S also a lot better these days, and I’ve bought jackets, jeans and tops from there of late.

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/07/2019 07:21

Debenhams do a good range of bras and their fitting service is generally good if you don’t want to go to Bravissimo. If you find a make and size that fits you well, you can order more cheaply on line. If you don’t want granny pants, M & S high waist Brazilians are nice (but come up huge, so size down at least one, if not two sizes).

KendrickLMAO · 14/07/2019 07:26

If you can get there Rigby and Peller for bras.

I always buy one there to ‘pay’ for their expertise when fitting then get the same brand on EBay.

For clothes in general, dress to your body type and fitted clothes are a must!

If you can afford it, find a seamstress who can tailor high street clothes.

CaptainBrickbeard · 14/07/2019 07:30

Just to second the recommendation to check out fullerfigurefullerbust on Instagram and any other plus size bloggers that have a similar body shape or size to you - it really helps me to get inspiration. There is also the fullerfigurefullerwardrobe FB page to get loads of ideas from.

fluffybottom · 14/07/2019 07:31

Have a look at Bethany Rutter - best dressed person I know.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 14/07/2019 08:23

I rate M&S slim jeans- they're pretty close fitting but they have slightly more fabric around the ankle so it freshens the look. I do just think skinnies are somewhat dated now, even for people who look good in them.

Tops-wise, I find that I have to pay a bit more for decent fabrics, as the cheap, clingy, stretchy ones do nothing to flatter me. I usually wear fitted (but not tight) tops which end at mid-hip level and have some give, but not too much. A bit of sleeve is good, but beware the cheap cap sleeve! If I can ever find a basic t-shirt with elbow length sleeves, I buy them in every colour.

I don't like the 50s fitted dress look that is advocated by some plus size bloggers, as it feels like a fancy dress costume, and I prefer a skater dress if I'm going to do "feminine". They cover a tummy overhang well if you are concerned about that area.

KendrickLMAO · 14/07/2019 08:29

Absolutely agree! Feels like a continuation of the “fat and jolly” stereotype. Ugh.

Right, I’ve ordered a variety of Culottes from Asos and yours, fingers crossed!

I’ve just been through my wardrobe and fucking hell, I’m so fed up of oversized sacks...I’ve sent them all to the charity shop so now I r ally need to find some clothes that work!!

@KendrickLMAO
I second Rigby and Peller. Their underwear may be very pricey but it lasts and fits perfectly. They measure you by sight, not with a tape measure. It's like witchcraft!

KendrickLMAO · 14/07/2019 18:08

@duckme Yes! Absolutely magical.

I have a very unusual cup size and I could do the 100m sprint in a R&P bra with no fear of blackened eyes!

Perfect of example of you gets what you you pay for.

PerspicaciaTick · 14/07/2019 18:18

While getting your nice bra also get some nice big pants. Even if they aren't shapewear they will slightly lift and tuck your tummy.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 14/07/2019 18:31

What back size do R&P go up to? Worried I’ll be to big for them!

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 14/07/2019 18:37

You won’t be. But they may put you in a completely different size.
