Please!

I’m a size 24, low hanging belly, I’m fat...working on being less fat but it’s obviously not going to happen immediately and I’m so so fed up of looking shit

I live in skinny jeans and sack like tops...I recently bought a cardigan that wasn’t oversized, it was more fitted and actually looks good and is reasonably flattering so I’m trying to move away from certainly the sack like tops and maybe even the skinny jeans (I do love a skinny jean mind you)

Please, please can someone help me, I’m so totally lost

And where can I buy a kick ass plus size bra?!

Thank you x

Asos curve is good. H and m plus size is OK but sizing is rage inducing.

BuildBuildings · 14/07/2019 18:44

After paying a fortune for bras over the years I've found really comfortable non wired ones from M&S. Also I quite like some bits from Dorothy Perkins but you need to be selective! I agree on not wearing tent like things. I'm a 20/22 and this summer have dared to tuck in a t shirt to my trousers! Much more flattering to show a bit of your shape.

KendrickLMAO · 14/07/2019 18:49

Re: R&P. You define won’t be, a size 24 is as usual to them as a size 12. They won’t bat an eyelid.

As PP has said you’ll probs find out you’re a completely different size to what you’re expecting.

They really are the best and yes, the bras may cost £70- 100 ish for an everyday bra, though there’s a sale atm, but I roomies one R&P bra is worth three Bravissimos

You could just hand wash it every evening in mild shampoo.

I wouldn’t set you up to fail but why not give em a quick ring to reassure yourself?

I’ve always just walked in off the street, never made an appointment

KendrickLMAO · 14/07/2019 18:50

Oh, and there’s no hard sell or subtle expectation to buy either, which is very good of them tbh!

dazzlingdeborahrose · 14/07/2019 19:28

I'm a size 18. Like you I've been living in skinny jeans and loose tops. I've recently embraced the tailor tuck, added a belt and usually a jacket (tailored or denim) and feel much better. I think the loose tops make you look bigger and squarer. The slightly more fitted look does make you look more shapely and slimmer.

CollaterlyS1sters · 14/07/2019 19:52

If you are serious though about losing weight, is it really a sensible thing to invest in an expensive bra? If you lose weight it won't fit you any more :-/

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 14/07/2019 20:02

I am serious about losing weight but I also feel seriously shit about myself so I think it’s worth it even if I need to buy another in 2m

CollaterlyS1sters · 14/07/2019 20:09

Fair enough, if you can afford it Grin

KendrickLMAO · 14/07/2019 21:41

I’d see the bra as an investment in your self esteem.

It’ll make your silhouette look slimmer and it’ll be so comfy you won’t know you’re wearing it so you’ll feel better in your own skin.

As a pp said, dressing better helped her lose weight cos she had higher self esteem.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence I lost three/four dress sizes after Ingot my first R&P bra.

The real challenge with weight loss is psychological.

I was happy to skip back in every time to get a new one.

£100 well spent I’d say!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 15/07/2019 07:04

Definitely hope the bra will make me feel better about myself!

I have the same issues with my belly and I live in wide legged culottes over the summer. You can pull them up high so your belly is hidden. I'm pretty ok on top so I'll wear them with a tight tee to make the most of my assets and it's a really cool and easy outfit to wear for work or going out. New look and boohoo have some nice ones in at the minute.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 15/07/2019 08:10

Thanks chocolate !

What shoes do you wear with them?

OP posts:
Chocolatefrog27 · 15/07/2019 10:46

Sandals or sliders probably go best. But certain ones look nice with trainers or ballet pumps x

SolsticeBabyMaybe · 15/07/2019 10:50

I would honestly go to r&p or m&s for a measurement, then go to brastop online. That is, if you have a large cup size (which is my issue). If you have a large back size but cup size is H or under, then m&s / bravissimo will be fine.

I second what someone else said about layering a fitted jacket, I feel like they give you a bit of style/edge and a different silhouette. Second the skater dress style etc.

I'd also recommend being bold and choosing pieces because you love the style, not just because it's an all-covering sack. That way you will look & feel more confident.

SolsticeBabyMaybe · 15/07/2019 10:51

Colouttes is a very cool look. I wear then with brogues, but that's just my preferred style and you can wear them with most footwear.

emilyhamptoncakeslice · 15/07/2019 10:59

Bravissimo Melrose bra
Fantasied belle bra

Both so comfy

emilyhamptoncakeslice · 15/07/2019 11:02

My tip is only ever buy clothes made of fabric with a bit of stretch and quite a good weight of fabric. Harder to follow this rule in summer though

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 15/07/2019 12:37

Thank you all so much!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 17/07/2019 22:20

Ok so Cullottes are a total win! Bought some from yours clothing and really like them!

But not sure what shoes to wear...I think Converse would look ace but I find them too flat so any other ideas greatfully received!

OP posts:
KendrickLMAO · 18/07/2019 15:11

Brilliant!

I think half the fun and all the benefit is finding your own style but...

Maybe try a chunky trainer like the trusty Fila Disruptor for the same converse vibe.

Or for a contemporary but stylish look, a Swedish clog?

namechangedforthis1980 · 18/07/2019 15:48

@IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece - could you post a link please to the culottes that you bought please? I never really know what to wear Blush

Rainbowsandrascals · 18/07/2019 16:09

Look on Facebook for Styled by Susie. They offer online (and in person) personal shops and they will advise the best clothes for your shape. People often say they feel so much better about themselves once they've had it done.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 18/07/2019 18:43

I bought these ones and the top they’re styled with and I LOVE them!

If you search culottes on the website then it comes up with a linen pair that I also bought but didn’t love the fit of those the jersey ones are fab though! Just struggling with the shoes aspect!

namechangedforthis1980 · 18/07/2019 20:05
