As I child I was desperate for black patent leather shoes and my mother would never buy me them saying I would scuff them ☹️
Now aged 50 I have just ordered some black patent loafers and feeling smug that I am finally going to wear the shoes I was so desperately wanted as a child .
They may not be in fashion now but who cares . Think they will look grand with black skinny's and grey shirt .
I am going to wear them next time I visit the parents 😆

They are definitely in fashion now! You will look and feel fabulous I’m sure!

billhubbard · 12/07/2019 17:47

@Ninkaninus Thank you 😊

Which ones did you get?

billhubbard · 12/07/2019 17:57

Just cheepo shoe zone loafers ☹️ looking online at loafers and they were the only ones I could find . Not being a snob but I generally buy the best I can find and in this case it was shoe zone ☹️

I like a bargain!

Any photo?

For future reference Marks and Sparks is quite good for shoes and if you buy in their sale the prices are very good.

sqeakywheel · 12/07/2019 18:01

I have done this, but in my 40s. Although I was allowed patent leather shoes. Although my dad told me that boys could see my knickers reflected in them every time I wore them. He's abusive and would ruin anything that made me happy. I've grown my hair long, it's really long and comes down to my butt. I got my ears pierced (age21). And on Thursday I got braces fitted. My parents wouldn't let me have braces. I was feeling like Wonder Woman as they don't hurt at all, until I had to eat bread soaked in soup, so really soft! Now I know what my ds1 meant about braces!
I'm glad you got the shoes! I hope you enjoy wearing them. Smile

MidnightVelvet9 · 12/07/2019 18:04

YES! I get you OP.

My version were black patent ankle strap shoes that all the other girls wore, not the clumsy brown Clarks ones with wide toes that I always had to wear!

You go for it!

billhubbard · 12/07/2019 18:04

Sorry no photo , bloody amazon won't let me screen shot .
They were £14.99 with free delivery. Complete bargain .
Mother always notices what I am wearing so wonder if she will notice the banned shoes 😂

I buy non leather shoes and all sorts of frivolous colored boots, something my mum would never have approved off. I also pay full price which my mum still never does.

Ninkaninus · 12/07/2019 18:08

Well I’m sure they’re great and more importantly it’s high time you had them!

NannyRed · 12/07/2019 18:11

Good for you. Enjoy your shiny shoes. I bet they feel fantastic.

billhubbard · 12/07/2019 18:12

Thank you everyone, I feel so much better now that I won't look silly in my banned shoes 😁

Ohyesiam · 12/07/2019 18:12

This is a personal triumph op! Put taps on them and tap dance on her dining room table!

Livebythecoast · 12/07/2019 18:14

Good for you!
What's the bet she says 'ooh, lovely shoes'
If she does say 'yeah, bit worried about them getting scuffed though'
I'm sure as years have passed she's read somewhere in 'take a break tips' there's a magic remedy for scuffed patent shoes!.

billhubbard · 12/07/2019 18:14

@sqeakywheel congratulations on braces , bloody well done you 💐

OP posts:
avocadochocolate · 12/07/2019 18:15

You rebel!

Enjoy!

billhubbard · 12/07/2019 18:17

@Ohyesiam ha ha as I dance over dining room table , new shoes no had these years 😬

OP posts:
Shockers · 12/07/2019 18:17

To be fair to your mum, you’re less likely to scuff them now than when you were dashing about as a kid! Grin

Enjoy your shiny shoes!

billhubbard · 12/07/2019 18:22

@Shockers yes to be fair to mum now I am a grandmother I tend not to scuff my shoes the same as I did as a child . Mind you with an energetic dog I am sure I walk miles more than I did as a child .
I will be very careful not to scuff them 😬

Do they have a magic key in the heel OP?
I was also desperate for black patent leather school shoes. My Dad actually bought me a pair and my Mum told him they were impractical and made him go back to the shop and exchange them for brown boys sandals.

billhubbard · 12/07/2019 18:24

@unlimiteddilutingjuice that's terrible poor you ... definitely no magic key (I wish )

OP posts:
unlimiteddilutingjuice · 12/07/2019 19:59

I was gutted.
In fairness, we were very short of money and could only get one pair. They were more practical.
I'm almost over it now.

CoolShoeshine · 13/07/2019 07:58

When I saw the thread title I knew it would be black patient! I was never allowed them either, mum thought they were “common”. Bloody 1980s Hyacinth Bucket type mother’s!
Anyway to be rebellious I bought my dd a pair of black patients to wear to reception class and thought she looked the business Grin. I still haven’t had any myself yet!

dudsville · 13/07/2019 08:02

How exciting!!!! I hope you really love wearing them. And if you do scuff them just remember, that's ok.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 13/07/2019 08:06

I did the same a couple of years ago, but mine were DMs. I wanted some for over 25 years. I love them. Hope you love yours too.
