Why is it so hard to find a 100% cotton or linen dress?

Very frustrating, I have enough viscose and IT IS NOT THE SAME. Hate polyester. Size 6, so Next often doesn't work for me.

Zara and H&M both do a lot of cotton.

actiongirl1978 · 02/07/2019 13:14

I have a lovely chambray blue linen shift dress from Tesco this year and it has pockets.

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 02/07/2019 13:15

I am wearing one from White Stuff right now (this year’s) and have just ironed one from Next (last year’s but fairly, sure I saw similar on there recently. Both 100% linen. They crush like anything but I do love them

BIWI · 02/07/2019 13:15

Sainsbury's

Not saying this is the kind of dress you might want/like, (probably just as well as size 6 is out of stock) but just to show it's not difficult to find!

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 02/07/2019 13:16

Sorry - just saw you said not Next! But WS do size 6 I believe

lewk · 02/07/2019 13:18

TK maxx always seem to have loads of linen dresses

Letthemysterybe · 02/07/2019 13:19

I’ve seen some at Mango

notasgreenasiamcabbagelooking · 02/07/2019 13:19

Mango have quite a lot of cotton and linen dresses at the moment, although not sure what's left after the sale.

1moreglassplease · 02/07/2019 14:22

Try Monsoon, they do lots of cotton and linen dresses.

dontcallmelen · 02/07/2019 14:27

@Stumpedasatree I same size as you Yy next they seem to have much bigger over the last few years especially on the hips, I have been searching for the same thing, did come across some really nice cotton & linen dresses on the Mango site but haven’t bought anything from them for ages so not sure what sizing is like, also Other Stories have some cotton dresses & French Connection has a few & they have a sale on at the moment would be worth a look.

Stumpedasatree · 02/07/2019 14:29

Thanks all. I have a few from H&M that fit ok. M&S, Sainsburys, and Next often fit too big in my size.

I'll have a look at Mango.

You can search by fabric type on the John Lewis womenswear section.

WitsEnding · 02/07/2019 15:37

TK Maxx, Laura Ashley (in the sale).

niceupthedanceagain · 02/07/2019 15:53

People tree do organic cotton stuff and tencel things which are waaay nicer than viscose.

thedevilinablackdress · 02/07/2019 16:12

COS is usually good for cotton dresses.

SpeckledyHen · 02/07/2019 17:11

Monki

StCharlotte · 02/07/2019 17:23

I usually prefer a linen blend as it's as cool as linen but doesn't crease like a bastard like 100% linen does.

Swiftier · 02/07/2019 17:25

Whistles and Jigsaw have a few. Got a Whistles one in the sale recently!

Branster · 02/07/2019 21:37

I’m exactly the same: size 6 and love 100% cotton (silk also). I also find Next and M&S too wide and frumpy on me. H&M has been the only high street store consistently selling cotton summer dresses in a good fit for me. However, since they changed sizing a few months ago, I find it a bit hit and miss. I am not adverse to altering if I really like something because I insist on a perfect fit. Otherwise, I usually stumble across my exact size and fit by chance in places like France and Italy - not main chain shops - and they offer an abundance of natural fibres.
I’m resigned to the fact that I am not a popular size and shape for mainstream retailers. I dream of a day when I can find an exact perfect fit white cotton dress in a perfect style where I can afford to buy a dozen of them and dye them the colours I want, keep them for the rest of my life and stop this almost utopian search .

Boden is good for cotton dresses and if you are short the petite sizing is true to size rather than generous. I would think M&S will be enormous if you are a size 6, I reckon they size one to two sizes larger than 'traditional' sizing (as as an M&S size 12 in the 1980s I can fit either a size 8 or 10 there now with the same dimensions). All the H&M stable (Cos, Arket, Other Stories) have cotton to a greater or lesser extent. Zara has a lot and their search function is good for identifying the cotton and linen.

FreeFreesia · 03/07/2019 08:28

Lots of styles in the Laura Ashley sale eg tunic, shirt dress, plain green tie waist

dameofdilemma · 03/07/2019 08:42

Re sizing, Mango is great for size 6 (most Spanish brands are on the small side). I buy lots of my clothes there as like you I find Next, M&S, too big.

Mango does have a lot of linen/cotton type dresses at the moment (I was in there this week) so worth a look.

Boden - would only recommend the petite for sizing.
H & M I've been going to for years because their sizing suits. Same with New Look.

Whistles, Cos, Arket - all come up big.

blueskiesbrighteyes · 03/07/2019 08:54

Mango has some lovely linen ones in the sale x

Stumpedasatree · 03/07/2019 11:11

Thanks, Mango does look very promising! Forgot to add I am also petite ish, 5ft 3, so the mainstream shops offerings in my size do drown me.
