Anyone time to help... STYLISH occasion outfit needed, sharing the event with EXH and OW!

jesmonddene · 24/06/2019 14:06

Trying to be an adult and attend DD's graduation ceremony 'with' EXH and OW. ( please only in the same room and not sitting beside them!)

The 'not so adult' in me wants to show that I can be super confident, stylish and classy. 🤔

Would really appreciate some links to outfits, including not too high footwear, if anyone has time to search.

I'm a size 8, 5ft 2 with olive skin and dark hair.

Thank you to those who will be so much better at this than me!

Oh my!

Flowers and Wine (but don't get pissed until they've gone).

I'm not great at links for other people as I mostly just know what I like for myself (and I don't wear heels) but I'm sure there'll be more people along soon.

What's your normal style? I think I'd try and go for an occasion-worthy version of that as I'd feel even more awkward if I went radically different.

And I'd get my hair done.

Moonflower12 · 24/06/2019 15:51

I've just bought some lovely occasion sandals in Debenhams- not high as they're for a wedding with a lot of grass. They had lots of lovely styles in the sale.

AnneKipanki · 24/06/2019 15:58

£85
What is the budget ?

raffle · 24/06/2019 16:00

I agree with getting your hair done, and maybe a nice manicure. Also some beautiful perfume. These things will all help your confidence. Good luck. And congrats to your DC!

EatenByDinosaurs · 24/06/2019 16:29

Oh wow, time to bring out the big guns Cake Brew Gin Wine Flowers

EatenByDinosaurs · 24/06/2019 16:47

Silk Fred also often have some great stuff, they stock Dancing Leopard too. I've just had a look through but its not easy without knowing your taste. If it were me I'd go for a very simple dress with some killer shoes and unusual statement jewellery.

Perhaps something like this...

PippiDeLena · 24/06/2019 17:26

Oh stressful!

Damsel in a Dress have lots of classy dresses if that was the style you wanted to go for?

YY to previous posters suggestion of getting your hair done at a hairdresser that morning so you look all bouncy haired and groomed. Practice kind but dignified smiles and breeziness. Good luck!

jesmonddene · 24/06/2019 17:33

You are all making me feel so much better. I'll take a look at the suggestions.

Not sure of my style - or maybe don't have one/don't want to stick with it.

I suppose I dress for my size more than anything, so not too many big gathers and frills otherwise I look square. and have to be careful about length. I do like the current fashions of mid calf dresses.

I also like a bargain so often rummage through eBay!

I this this arket dress any good? I've been eyeing it up for a while. I think it has a nice elegant but low key, cool vibe which would give it a pleasing 'fuck you' quality while still remaining classy and adult.

AnneKipanki · 24/06/2019 17:58

Which arket dress? @Floisme

AnneKipanki · 24/06/2019 17:59

You probably want something classic and fitted as you are small .
What is your budget ? Which colours do you suit?

jesmonddene · 24/06/2019 18:00

Really like the silkfred dress the most, it gives a cool vibe, with some beautiful shoes is a 'not trying too hard' type outfit ...I just don't think I could wear it. I think I would look quite square.

The Arket dress is fab, but too 'out there' for me and most likely way too long.

There are plenty of Damsel in a Dress options, nothing particularly stands out, but many 'would do'. Many are similar to my work dresses ( Diva Catwalk type) - think I wanted more than a 'would do' outfit though. Like the trench dresses on there but more for work than this event.

Thank you for helping me, it is great to see new options of brands.

If an 8 and 5 foot 2 ..I would not wear a kaftan type thing , sorry .

LuluBellaBlue · 24/06/2019 18:12

What about this?

Floisme · 24/06/2019 18:13

Ok Smile I'm only slightly taller - 5'3 and size 8-10 - but I've not seen it in real life and you're probably right about it being too long.
Mind you it doesn't look anything like my idea of a kaftan and I don't think they've done themselves any favours calling it that.

Lucked · 24/06/2019 18:28

I think this millen dress would look great with olive skin.

Lucked · 24/06/2019 18:30

You could wear it with blocked heeled tan or gold sandals.

Lucked · 24/06/2019 18:34

Ted Baker also have a sale on with some options here and here

Lucked · 24/06/2019 18:41

asos on sale

Ginger1982 · 24/06/2019 20:31

I'm rubbish with outfits but definitely get your hair and nails done and, if budget allows, your make up too?

jesmonddene · 24/06/2019 21:08

I do like the Ted Baker dresses, for the style, belt and stripes, not so sure about the big birds on the white one. Love Ted for the quality.

Like the ASOS dusty pink dress, what will the quality be?

Can't get the photo of the coral Karen Millen to load though interested in the colour.

Not so sure about the Reiss dress.

Thinking also a coat or jacket, not sure what I would wear with those?

Will book for my nails though, great idea. Hair, not sure as we will have to travel, might need to do that in the city before the ceremony.

Lucked · 24/06/2019 21:44

It is a very orange coral.

A cream jacket like this will work with lots of dresses

ChippingInLowCarbing · 24/06/2019 21:47

5’2” size 8, olive skin, dark hair radiant as the mum of a graduate...

A bin bag? You’re going to look amazing whatever you wear. What was the douche thinking?!?!

winterisstillcoming · 24/06/2019 22:01

I'm similar colouring, 5ft 2 size 10 hourglass and I'd love a reason to wear this:
