Anyone time to help... STYLISH occasion outfit needed, sharing the event with EXH and OW!

Trying to be an adult and attend DD's graduation ceremony 'with' EXH and OW. ( please only in the same room and not sitting beside them!)

The 'not so adult' in me wants to show that I can be super confident, stylish and classy. 🤔

Would really appreciate some links to outfits, including not too high footwear, if anyone has time to search.

I'm a size 8, 5ft 2 with olive skin and dark hair.

Thank you to those who will be so much better at this than me!

Sorry just realised it's in size 18 only. There is a navy one too in a similar cut.

However, whatever you wear, the pride in your face will win out! I hope you're proud of yourself too, and do allow yourself a little bit of smug.

Here are a couple of ideas from John Lewis
Hobbs "Phoebe" embroidered dress reduced to £89

L K Bennett "Denise" dress was £250 reduced to £119

Phase Eight "Jamee" Jacquard dress in jade £60

Worth having a look in John Lewis if you have one nearby, they have quite a few different Phase Eight designs.

There is always a lot of standing around waiting at these dos, so get comfortable shoes.

FagashJackie · 24/06/2019 23:49

I would go for a classic shift dress and shoes that you can wear on grass. Sorry not to give links but at your size and height Ralph Lauren looks not embarrassing for your dc and a bit embarrassing for your exh.

Shoes I would probably go for Swedish has been low heels, get lots of compliments from women of all ages.

Book the hairdresser in the destination city and an appointment to get your make up done at a counter.

Well done to your dc, have fun.

Some great ideas and great people here, you are making me feel so much better. Deep down I will hate this and don't want the OW there. Always such an awkward situation except for remembering what a horrid man my EXH is and knowing he has also made the OW equally miserable ( she chose him!).

ChippingIn I actually laughed out loud at your comment, I will remember that during graduation day and feel just a little smug. I think I am allowed!

Going to have a look at your suggestions and will report back!

Oh jesmonddene I've just noticed your user name. What magical summer days I remember there from my childhood!

AnneKipanki · 25/06/2019 10:47

That ASOS pink dress caused quite a stir on twitter / instagram recently and @Pinkarsedfly had it as her wedding dress .

AnneKipanki · 25/06/2019 10:48

Hobbs is great for stylish classic dresses .

AnneKipanki · 25/06/2019 14:06

Carol Kirkwood had that (black with flowers) Ted Baker one on this morning... looked fabulous in it.

AnneKipanki · 25/06/2019 14:10

You can see her wearing it online .( gaffe about Portugal and France )

Nerdgirl72 · 25/06/2019 14:32

Hello @jesmonddene

I always like a Whistles bodycon dress, they come in some lovely prints but they are good for midis and shirtdresses too. Also sale www.whistles.com/women/sale/dresses/?prefn1=size&prefn2=size&prefv3=S%2FM&prefv4=ONE%20SIZE&prefv1=UK%2008&prefv2=27&prefn3=size&prefn4=size

jesmonddene · 25/06/2019 19:26

Loads of choices, Whistles looking promising too.

For one who struggles to make a decision I almost have too many choices...now I'm worrying about being weather appropriate. Imagined floaty and summery, I like the yellow pleated Ted Baker on the sale site, out of all of the dresses that's the one I keep remembering but it's not stopped raining for the last two days and is freezing here!

Choices, choices!

Love the blue Boden jumpsuit

ZiggyB · 25/06/2019 20:18

I mean Clarissa - so cool

KaliforniaDreamz · 25/06/2019 20:30

It's lovely isn't it ziggy Heels or white trainers. both look fab.

dontcallmelen · 25/06/2019 20:37

Yy the Clarissa jumpsuit, I’m very similar size & that comes in petite as well, also have a look at Reiss they have a sale on at the moment & have some really pretty dresses also French connection worth a look & they have reductions at the moment as well.
Sure you will look amazing & have a great time.

LittleMy77 · 26/06/2019 01:44

Read the reviews for the Clarissa, as I bought it in a petite and its a really odd fit. Was the right length but the torso and arms were really odd so off back it went.

I've ordered and sent back about 3 other similar things from Boden recently - I summise that a lot of stuff currently in the sale is there because its not fitting people!

Floisme · 26/06/2019 07:36

I really like the blue Boden jumpsuit too. My only reservation is that if you're small it can be really hard to find a jumpsuit that fits in all the right places - and I was thinking that even before I saw LittleMy's post.

For what it's worth op - and I hope this doesn't cause offence to anyone - I think taking the OW to a graduation is seriously off. If it was say a wedding or big birthday then ok but, in my rule book, your graduation is a small occasion and should be for the people who've brought you up and close family. So I would have a manicure too so you can give him a very classy, perfectly buffed finger.

jesmonddene · 26/06/2019 09:45

Thanks Floisme - must say I've woken with serious reservations about going. The day will be so strained with OW there, DC running between us, us avoiding each other. I was trying to be an adult and make things easy for DC but it will ruin it for me.

My EXH and his OW are so hard faced though, if it was me I would be hiding away quietly, but not them, they'll be there in their unashamed glory!

KaliforniaDreamz · 26/06/2019 09:56

Dear jes i really hope you find the strength to go. Focus really hard on your DC and kepp breathing. Do you have a good mate who will give you some moral on the day? Stick close to her.
xx

KaliforniaDreamz · 26/06/2019 09:56

*keep

AnneKipanki · 26/06/2019 10:05

Jumpsuits are a pain ...loo visits!

shinynewapple · 26/06/2019 10:19

I know this is style and beauty not relationships but I was wondering what your DDs relationship with her dad and OW was. Would she even want her there?

KaliforniaDreamz · 27/06/2019 09:55

How ru OP?
