What style jeans are the fashionable wearing now? (Clueless new mum and desperate)

I had a baby a year ago and feel pretty down about my appearance.

All my jeans (which are a bit hipster) look rubbish now. I’m size 8/10 so by no means fat but I have a bit of a tummy so my jeans dig in and are not flattering at all.

What style should I be going for? I’m thinking maybe I need something a bit more high waisted?
I still want to look fashionable and not frumpy!

What style jeans are fashionable people wearing low?

Now not low

I quite like the Editor jeans from Top shop, but haven't tried them on yet. I think high waisted extra tight skinnies, or straight leg jeans look nice. High waist acts like a corset to hold in my mum tum.

Processedpea · 16/06/2019 21:00

Uniqlo ultra stretch are skinny but not skin tight and have a higher waist. They're very comfortable as they hold tummy in but look good. They are 32 inches long tho

Herfromthehouseupthehill · 17/06/2019 19:55

Anyone else?!

High waisted skinny jeans are the best. Try new look Yasmin jeans. I love them in black.

NurseButtercup · 17/06/2019 20:05

I just bought these two from Gap

www.gap.co.uk/gap/cone-denim-super-high-rise-straight-jeans-with-distressed-detail/308655854.html

and

www.gap.co.uk/gap/mid-rise-real-straight-jeans/306610402.html

I buy all my jeans from Gap I always wait for the sale. The jeans are usually heavily reduced cheap as chips, good quality and they look great with trainers, sandals, boots.

I've also got a few pairs of high waisted wide leg denim jeans.

Daffodil2018 · 17/06/2019 20:12

I'm a new mum too, with a mum tum to prove it, and I'm a bit over skinny jeans now. They aren't comfortable and I feel fat in them.

Lots of the cool mums near me wear boyfriend cut jeans with the bottoms turned up. So now I do too Grin

I got mine in M&S - £20.

Richlyfruited · 17/06/2019 20:23

Been wearing relaxed skinnies for years - always rolled up. Tbh I'm a petite parsnip shape so this just suits me better - balances out the thighs!

High waisted Mom jeans are definitely in for the female student population around here!

Quintella · 17/06/2019 20:30

The style mavens aren't wearing skinny jeans. A looser fit is definitely more fashionable. If you're not into the baggier 90s look just yet, what about a relaxed skinny?

Yes, I am not fashionable really, and even I feel "done" with skinnies and wear a looser cropped fit now

GVmama · 17/06/2019 20:41

I like mid rise jeans as opposed to high waist, depends where your actual waist sits, I think mine is fairly low-ish but I definitely have a tum which needs some structure around it! Shape wise I prefer slightly looser than skinny jeans, a boyfriend cut or relaxed skinny. I also like them to be on the shorter side so get ankle grazers.

My faves are from Marks and Spencer's although they don't seem to sell the exact ones any more. They have these, although the reviews don't seem great. I've had similar from Gap and F&F at Tesco too.

Have a look around and find what suits you, don’t just go ‘fashion’. Generally if they are in the shops, they are fashionable anyway otherwise they wouldn’t be selling. I was amazed at what some jeans did (and didn’t!) do for me and things I might have expected to look awful didn’t, and vice versa.

Processedpea · 17/06/2019 20:47

I'm in a grump but when people take the time to post it's kind of polite to say thanks instead of 'anyone else ! ?'

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/06/2019 21:21

I occasionally wear high-waisted black skinny jeans for work, but otherwise prefer a “barrel leg”. I like the Whistles ones, which I have in black, indigo, and light blue. I’m 5ft 6, size 10, with a small waist and big hips/bum, and find them very flattering.

whitehalleve · 17/06/2019 21:29

I'm another one who loves Gap, mid-rise real straight jeans.

It's the same as I wore before baby but weirdly I feel like my waistline has moved up an inch or so since having her!

RobotNews · 17/06/2019 21:34

High waisted are defiantly more comfortable on my mum tum. I have a few pairs of Jamie jeans from Topshop - they’re super comfy and flattering

Herfromthehouseupthehill · 17/06/2019 21:35

Thanks all!
Also what kind of belts do you wear?

SrSteveOskowski · 17/06/2019 21:55

You'll have to prize my skinnies off my cold dead legs! Grin

UnderPompeii · 17/06/2019 22:06

Processedpea I was thinking that too!
Thanks you for all your helpful suggestions everyoneSmile

ihatethecold · 17/06/2019 22:26

I really need to update my jeans. I live in skinny jeans but I’m only 5”2 so lots are way too long for me.
I’m also curvy 12/14 with a tummy.
I’d love to get a different style.

user1489792710 · 18/06/2019 00:26

I've just bought the cropped straight jeans from top shop. They look fab on my post section overhang and is much more flattering as well. They do run big so size down!

Would strongly recommend the high rise straight and wide leg jeans from Zara as well. I'm hoping the skinny jeans are on their way out...

Thanks for the gap recommendation up thread... off to have a nosey.

champagneplanet · 18/06/2019 00:33

Eden leggings from Dorothy Perkins are brilliant, lots of colours, high waisted and three different leg lengths. I have a good few pairs, they look good with boots, converse, ballet flats. I really like them as they are more substantial than some jeggings but keep their shape better than jeans.

champagneplanet · 18/06/2019 00:33

*Eden jeggings, not leggings Grin

Zoflorabore · 18/06/2019 04:08

I highly recommend the Kate jeans at Peacocks, cheap as chips at £14 a pair and come in loads of shades. They're high waisted pull on relaxed skinny.

I bought every colour they had last year and they're out in stores again this year.

IhaveALooBrush · 18/06/2019 07:24

I'm a big high waist wide leg fan.
I also like mom jeans.
For the money Monki are really good quality.
I like Topshop but must remember not to tumble dry them or they shrink a whole size.
My Zara jeans have lasted a while too, but their quality is so hot and miss.
