Small crossbody for wedding guest - what colour?

I have a lovely jade green dress to wear, and sandals which are "metallic sand" - a sort of very pale gold colour. Will probably wear a white blazer type layer if it's cold. No idea what colour bag to go with? I have a brown one and a black one, but both are a bit 'tired' looking, and ideally I'd like something that pulls together the outfit a bit more

(Also happy to look at different colour blazers/layers if anyone can suggest something that's better than white, as the blazer I have isn't great!)

I have recommended this bag a couple of times because it’s perfect for a wedding I’m going to, I have dusky pink but there’s heaps of colours www.myexquisiteshop.com/products/camila-small-shoulder-bagel-bag.

In your shoes I mIght go for tan or cream for a bag, or even a mustard colour.

dinkydonky · 17/06/2019 14:58

Thanks for the suggestion! Have you ordered from that site? I'm always a bit suspicious of places that don't have their address etc on their website

LuxuryWoman2018 · 17/06/2019 15:16

Yes, as above I bought the dusky pink, had a couple of bags from them.

palahvah · 17/06/2019 19:33

Pink is great with green.
Alternatively how about a metallic bag (to match shoes) or an animal print in black + white or grey tones eg snakeskin or zebra.

beeyourself · 17/06/2019 23:26

How about this one https://miatui.com/collections/occasion-bags/products/isobel-large-molly?variant=18514333302851 in rose gold/silver/or something completely different?

dinkydonky · 18/06/2019 09:22

I don't really like animal print unfortunately, agree that it would go well though!

I've been looking at metallics but the sandals are tricky as they are so pale - I feel like slightly mismatching is worse than something not matching at all. Quite like the idea of colour blocking with pink though. Not sure mustard would work, the green isn't the right shade.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 18/06/2019 10:02

I wouldn’t try to match shoes with bag, if your dress is jade what about a darker green, a forest colour? This might help www.instyle.com/fashion/4-ways-wear-jade

FaithInfinity · 18/06/2019 10:07

I’ve got this yellow bag from Accessorize, would that work?

dinkydonky · 18/06/2019 10:38

I thought about a darker green but having seen those pictures I'm less sure - it's quite a 'cool' colour and most darker greens seem very warm toned so clash a bit, to my eyes. I like navy but not sure if it would look right with very light shoes and blazer?

I've seen a metallic resin bag I quite like that I think could work uk.accessorize.com/view/product/uk_catalog/acc_1,acc_1.7/7905750400 but it's a clutch, so now trying to work out what I could attach to make a longer strap...

OP posts:
LuxuryWoman2018 · 18/06/2019 10:43

It has a chain strap already, can't work out how long it is though

lablewhore · 18/06/2019 10:44

Have you thought about rattan or shell? A different texture perhaps?www.zara.com/uk/en/limited-edition-shell-bag-p02571012.html

lablewhore · 18/06/2019 10:45

sorry if link doesn't work....

Can you show us the dress and shoes?

dinkydonky · 18/06/2019 11:15

I think the chain on that one I posted is just a short one but I might be able to attach something longer.

These are the sandals i.etsystatic.com/13278136/r/il/32b1df/1935720991/il_794xN.1935720991_mblg.jpg
I don't have a good photo of the dress, I would say it is slightly darker and richer in colour than the ones shown on the first page of that InStyle link upthread. It's a somewhat floaty chiffon job.

I think a different texture than leather would be great, but I don't really like beads or rattan. I'm trying for more sleek/edgy minimalist than boho.
Thanks for the Zara link though, their clothes never fit me so I forgot to look there. They seem to have lots I like!

Like this but not sure the shape is very practical

Back to colourblocking, I think this could look ok?
www.zara.com/uk/en/city-bag-with-contrast-flap-p13510004.html?v1=8334522&v2=1180507

This I think might be good too

Thank you so much for all your suggestions!

I’d either go deep colour:

www.whistles.com/women/bags/small-bags-clutches/brixton-circular-crossbody-bag-29849.html?cgid=Clutch_Bags_WW&dwvar_brixton-circular-crossbody-bag-29849_color=Red#start=0

Or trusty and versatile black:

Or nude pink (but you would have to see the two colours in person to make sure they go nicely together):

www.whistles.com/women/bags/small-bags-clutches/brixton-circular-crossbody-bag-29848.html?cgid=Clutch_Bags_WW&dwvar_brixton-circular-crossbody-bag-29848_color=Pale%20Pink#start=0

I’d stay away from metallic bags - it can really clash if it’s not quite right to match the shoes, and then of it does match it can look too matchy matchy. I think the chain colour on the bag I have linked to would tie in nicely with your sandals though.

Ninkaninus · 18/06/2019 11:39

Also I think I would look for a different blazer or wrap or something - I think white could look a bit stark against that beautiful green.

dinkydonky · 18/06/2019 11:47

I've used black with this dress before which I did like, but it feels a bit harsh for a summer wedding and I also think it really won't go with these shoes? (I wore black last time)

I'm not madly keen on the white blazer but I really struggled finding something that went well with it last time I was looking. Maybe a creamy gold pashmina would work if I could find one? Black/grey/navy feel a bit 'workwear' to me. I think colour blocking with a blazer might be a bit much.

OP posts:
Ninkaninus · 18/06/2019 12:01

Yes I agree - Black would be a winter colour for me too. I would probably find a jacket or cover up first, and then choose my bag based on that - it’s easier to find bags so I’d look to tie that into the rest of the outfit.

Phase Eight do nice little jackets I think.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 18/06/2019 14:46

Is the dress solid colour? I’m thinking a similar coloured wrap with embellishment, not this exactly but gives an idea. The blazer would be all wrong on a floaty chiffon dress

Small crossbody for wedding guest - what colour?
Ninkaninus · 18/06/2019 14:49

Ohh yes you’re right a pashmina in same or similar colour would be lovely too! So either green or creamy gold pashmina would be my option I’d be looking for, as I agree I wouldn’t want to wear a blazer over a floaty dress (sorry I tend to skim and don’t take details in unless I see a photo).

spanishwife · 18/06/2019 14:56

OP I love the black and white zara bag (your last link). I was actually going to recommend something with a light and dark pattern e.g. black and white. The shoes are very neutral so I think it would go well. Dark green and black are great together too.

dinkydonky · 18/06/2019 15:36

Yes the dress is solid colour. The blazer is more of a cropped jacket and I think it looks ok style wise (sorry no photo), as the dress has a very defined waist and the blazer is cropped and sits in just the right place. I think a pashmina might be better though. I'm imagining a cream one with gold threads running through - where on earth do I find this unicorn of an item?!

Also just seen this bag which I like.. not sure strap is long though. But think the colours would go well with the dress and tie it together with the blazer if I can't find a pashmina

Debenhams might be a good bet, if you have Indian dress shops where you are that might be worth a look too, I’ve had some lovely wraps and scarves from a shop near me. Phase 8 have something that might fit the bill, search shawls.

Boulezvous · 18/06/2019 18:57

If think about an orange bag. Would go well with the green and gold and white.
