Is it just me or are there actually some nice clothes on the shops right now?

Went round the shops today and actually saw quite a few rather nice pieces, flattering dresses, less polyester, was shocked! I know a while ago there was a v long thread lamenting how crap clothes were on the high street ( which I agreed with ), but either fashion has changed or stores have realised that what they were doing isn’t working, but I actually bought something today!! 😀

Anyone else noticed a difference?

I was in M&S earlier and saw two things I'd happily wear without even looking Shock - - I only went in for a sandwich - -

Tableclothing · 16/05/2019 20:36

Where are you OP? Don't keep me in suspense!

BikeRunSki · 16/05/2019 20:36

I have been buying/eyeing up quite a lot of clutches recently too.

Fatted · 16/05/2019 20:39

It's just you OP.

I think the problem is my age. I was a teen in the 90's and I'm similar age to what my mum was in the 90's. So I can either choose to dress like I did as a teenager or dress how my mum did when I was a teenager.

gluteustothemaximus · 16/05/2019 20:44

Opposite for me, sorry. But I go to cheap shops Grin

Couldn't find a thing. Patterns curtains everywhere and when I came out the changing rooms, there was so much polyester clothing I had tried on, my hair was standing on end with all the static Grin

SnugglySnerd · 16/05/2019 20:46

I agree. I had a gift card to spend in Oasis and I felt spoilt for choice. I couldn't decide. After years of not buying anything because it's all horrible!

Riverviews · 16/05/2019 21:29

I went into Wallis today and I really disliked all the patterns. When you see them all together on the floor shop, they are migraine inducing!

However, I though New Look and Oasis have quite a few nice things

Unburnished · 16/05/2019 21:37

Where are these mythical nice clothes/shops?

I went shopping yesterday and was met by a sea of khaki rags, 1970s curtains turned into dresses, a load of paper thin t-shirts and some jaunty striped blazers. It was shit.

hugoagogo · 16/05/2019 21:39

Yes more natural fabrics, less cold shoulders and stupid flouncy bits, it's definitely a bit better.
I wonder if it was the boiling summer we had last year, that has made a difference?

Destinysdaughter · 16/05/2019 22:24

Thing is, I’m talking about there being literally NOTHING in the shops worth buying, and now there’s a few bits that are nice, and I’m wondering why? Is it the fabrics, is it the cut, is it the current fashion?

Also, disclaimer, I do not live in a high fashion area!

I agree, there's a look in fashion now IMO. Linen(ish) things in earthy tones with buttons. A look I like. It happens occasionally!

championquartz · 17/05/2019 10:58

Not seeing much. Unfortunately I dislike a lot of pattern and it seems to be everywhere.

But I remain forever hopeful.

Can you link any/all of these lovely pieces you're finding??

Unburnished · 17/05/2019 22:43

... tumbleweed ...

BikeRunSki · 18/05/2019 08:34

I find Uniqlo and Sainsbury’s not bad for natural fibres and no pattern. I also seem to be collecting Boden Richmond trousers in various lengths and colours.

Bazzill · 18/05/2019 08:40

I've bought five tops/ Ts from Next this last week or so. Wearing one yesterday and someone stopped me in the street to ask where I'd bought it, that's never happened to me before. Last year I really struggled to buy anything as I detested the cold shoulder trend and I'm not a huge fan of loud patterns.

Richlyfruited · 18/05/2019 09:23

Hopefully retailers are doing some market research and also realising through poor sales that we don't universally like paying lots of money for polyester shite!

I like some of the jungle prints around at the moment!

MarniLou · 18/05/2019 10:07

Yes, I like the current fashions, much more wearable and appropriate for all ages. Loving shirt dresses, wrap dresses and have even tried a jumpsuit. perhaps because I wore these fashions in the 90's?)

rookiemere · 18/05/2019 10:28

Yes - I've just ordered a load from White stuff as they have 20% off. Great looking sandals with comfort sole, lovely looking long length cotton big striped dress, linen skirt and leather handbag. Might not be so great when it arrives mind, but absolutely loads of stuff I would wear.

I find Next a bit of a hidden treasure for summer wear. They have a fantastic selection of linen blend shorts, chinos and dresses in plain colours. Quality isn't amazing so generally only last one or two summers, but pretty cheap so don't mind.

goose1964 · 18/05/2019 13:44

A few years ago we were all slagging off 80s fashion. It's def back but without the shoulder pads. I spent my last shopping trip thinking I used to own something like that.

RacheyCat · 18/05/2019 15:51

It so wonderful to finally be able to buy linen at reasonable prices in high street stores like H&M and Zara! No way am I paying for polyester. Far too sweaty in the summer.

Destinysdaughter · 18/05/2019 19:06

Sorry I don’t have any links as I hate buying clothes online, I prefer to go into shops so I can see and feel the fabrics!

I like all the wide-legged cropped trousers. Have bought the navy ones from Oasis.

Riverviews · 24/05/2019 13:01

I found these 2 today. 100% cotton

Is it just me or are there actually some nice clothes on the shops right now?

DD just pounced on some old 80s sewing patterns I was throwing out and retrieved them with cries of 'Wow, paperbag trousers! I'm so going to make these.'

managedmis · 24/05/2019 13:06

I like hthe idea of a jumpsuit I'll have to admit
