I love the dress but slightly miffed it's a tad see through. What knickers do I wear???

Flesh/Nude coloured Non VPL (Visible Panty Line) or Brazilian Style Pants which are always Non VPL.

Bloomburger · 08/05/2019 19:44

Flesh colour of course.

CountFosco · 08/05/2019 21:24

For a summer feel you need a silk slip.

Rooftree · 08/05/2019 21:33

Nude colour knickers won’t show if they’re the same colour as your skin. They would need to be the seem free ones though

Kokeshi123 · 09/05/2019 00:22

Think of a slip as a "separate dress liner" if it helps. Honestly, they make dresses hang so much nicer! And you won't feel confident in your nice new dress if you are having to wonder if your pants are visible all day long.

SrSteveOskowski · 09/05/2019 11:51

I would usually say nude thong, but I have one white dress that's too fitted to wear anything underneath, so I just wear nothing.

LoafofSellotape · 09/05/2019 12:09

Don't wear red knickers,I don't know who came up with that idea but they must've done it for a laugh! It's simply NOT true that they're invisible.Confused

Sinead100 · 09/05/2019 12:15

Slips being reserved for the elderly? I'm glad you have that misconception OP.

facepalm

teta · 09/05/2019 12:25

I like that silk slip Countfosco.
Last year I bought a couple of M&S cotton slips and dyed them nude and wore them constantly. The thing is if the dress is even slightly see thru’ it will be very transparent in the sun.
Another alternative is H&M have Pima cotton nighties in white that are essentially the same shape as the silk slip further up. One of these could be worn underneath as another option.

Rooftree · 09/05/2019 13:06

I do hate this problem. Agree that slips solve the problem but on the hottest of days I simply don’t want to wear two layers, even in silk. Damn those see through dresses

TaurielTest · 09/05/2019 13:12

Is your concern not wanting your underwear to be visible -
in which case these are good - www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/women/innerwear-and-loungewear/bras-and-underwear/body-shapers - or not wanting the actual shape of your arse and thighs to be visible - in which case you need to get over your slip-aversion :D ?

Firsttimemummy19 · 09/05/2019 13:24

Thanks @Sinead100

Sorry but I don't know anyone under 60 that wears a 'slip'. I mean no offence by that.

Besides, it's a lovely lightweight summer dress and wouldn't look right with a slip. More over I just don't want to wear an underskirt ☺️

I'm going with either flesh or pale pink non vpl knickers. I think that's the best option by far.

It depends on your skin tone. If you are olive skinned, red really does not show up much. If you have paler skin then a light pink can be quite subtle.

Personally, I think so called nude is a revolting colour, it makes you look as if you have a cardboard bum! I don’t do nude and white reminds me of school! I would rather something prettier showed slightly, as long as they are not “shouting” at you.

CherryPavlova · 09/05/2019 14:49

Depends on where you wear it.

Beach restaurant, fine with nude underwear or a bikini.
Work. Entirely inappropriate without a petticoat.
Shopping. Expect a few stares or comments if you are wearing a see through dress and visible knickers.

I’m under 60 and wear full or half petticoats when the cut of the dress demands it. Not much worse than clinging clothes with a tight underwear line or display of knickers. Unless you’re very young, very slender and beautiful, in which case enjoy turning heads.

Confusedbeetle · 09/05/2019 14:53

Marks do a lovely flesh coloured slip. Improves the line of the dress

LittleAndOften · 09/05/2019 15:39

Just avoid white pants whatever you do OP. I recall some years ago a large-figured colleague who wore a white linen dress with big white knickers all summer. To see her from behind was just to see her bum. No one knew where to look! Flesh coloured won't make you look naked, they just won't show. Eyes on you, not your derriere Wink

DarlingNikita · 09/05/2019 16:08

Nude, all the way.

Personally, I think so called nude is a revolting colour, it makes you look as if you have a cardboard bum!
I've NEVER found this with nude knickers!

stucknoue · 09/05/2019 16:18

I have a couple of nude colour full length slips for such dresses

stucknoue · 09/05/2019 16:20

Slips come in modern designs too you know with hidden shape wear for those of us a little larger!

dreichuplands · 09/05/2019 16:22

I would get it lined OP, showing your pants isn't the best look.
