I have wanted my hair short for a while and now I feel I ready to have it done. I am booked in for a cut and colour on Thursday afternoon and I want to leave the salon a new me! On a recent thread here someone mentioned their “Spaniel Ears” that is exactly how I feel about my hair, it just hangs shapelessly down. I want a style that is stylishly short rather than trendy, definitely shaped short at the sides but it must be easy to manage so I can wash and go quickly. I also feel that my colour needs to go either lighter or warmer. I have seen these 3 styles that are the sort of look and length that I would love but I am open to ideas if you have any suggestions. I have shown my picture as without it you can’t advise. I will report back with a pic of the new me!

I don't want to put you off but ime, when I had short hair (must admit it was about 20 years ago) it was much more effort to style than longer hair!

However, I do think you would suit those shorter styles that you have shown, but it is a drastic step from the length you have now to them, I know people say 'it's only hair it will grow back if you don't like it' which is true but it does take a while & can seem like ages!

What about something like these to start with, your still losing some length, see how you get on with it, then if you feel good about losing more length you can go for the full chop?

I think they’re lovely styles and you should go for it if you are brave enough.

FindYourCentre · 27/04/2019 22:31

I'd just do it! Chop it off!!! In fact I have regularly. But I tend to wear mine short then every 3-5 years decide to grow it, get fed up and chop it all off again!

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 27/04/2019 23:02

Number 2, do it!

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 27/04/2019 23:09

Going against the grain here but don’t do it. You have beautiful hair and it just needs a little taken off and to grow out your fringe.

Fairylea · 27/04/2019 23:11

Go for it. You have a lovely delicate face. I’d go for number 3 Smile

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 27/04/2019 23:12

Don't go halfway, those styles are horribly ageing.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/04/2019 23:14

You are so lovely, op! I think the pic next to yours is a winner and I really think a slight lightening of your shade would be gorgeous.

SwedishEdith · 27/04/2019 23:23

You've got a great face with strong features - definitely go for something short. You'll easily carry it off.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 27/04/2019 23:31

carrie

My hair is very short and takes literally a minute to style

My new hairdresser who is an old friend of mine was very surprised Grin

But i do like the more textured look in your photos...mine is more spikey

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 27/04/2019 23:32

And yes you look lovely so you'll be able to carry most styles off Smile

CountFosco · 28/04/2019 08:07

Do it! The middle of the three is longer on top though, but I'd check with your hairdresser which they think will work best with your hair texture. I have hair as short as the first and third of your photos, I just toweldry it and then roughly style it with my fingers (no product even day to day) or give it a quick blast with the hairdryer in the winter. It's so easy (although haircuts evety 6 weeks). I don't dye mine but that will require regular updates, or you could take the opportunity to go natural which Ithink is easier with short hair.

Carriefrompreston · 28/04/2019 11:24

Thanks everyone, it seems most of you do not think I am making a major mistake, pheww. I have shown the styles to a close friend this morning and she thinks I should cut it but feels I should maybe have something a bit more trendy......if any one has a few trendy ideas I would love to see them, fashion isn't my thing. My friend said she will send me a couple to also consider which I will post for comment.

Sharon Stone has good short hair. Something like this?

But hair grows so quickly, even if you went shorter it wouldn't take long for it to grow a bit more.

Watching with interest as I’d also like to bite the bullet and get a shorter cut. I’d love to see an ‘after’ pic once you’ve had yours done.

PlasmaRain · 28/04/2019 16:04

God no to the halfway helmet styles, so dated. I love the shorter choppy styles you’ve picked OP, go for it!

hazeyjane · 28/04/2019 16:08

If go for the 3rd one, that you couldn't fit in op. It would really suit you.

millythepink · 28/04/2019 16:24

Yes, you must. You have great cheekbones and it will be so flattering and stylish. I never get why grown women go for the shoulder length hair/no fringe look because all their hair does is just hang there.

Ohyesiam · 28/04/2019 16:31

You have the cheek bones for it op, go for it!

Thinkle · 28/04/2019 17:15

I have short hair and have done for around 6-7 years now and love it!! It’s the “people stop me in the street haircut for me” You can’t just pick a picture off the internet though, the right short hair for you that takes 1 minute to style and survives wind/rain will totally depend on your hair texture/hairline/any kinks. There will be a bit of trial and error.
My tips would be:
Have a honest chat with hairdresser about what will sit on you and suit you and cut to that rather than a photo.
Understand and invest in ‘product’, you’ll use it every day (more expensive does = better for this one)
Don’t assume highlights, you could find your self with that two tone thing. Consider block colour or bleach and toner (so much fun).
You shouldn’t assume you have to have a sweeping fringe, you could find yourself tugging at it all day and it’ll drive you nuts. Consider brow length and choppy fringe.
For what it’s worth mine is pic 3 but different colour, possibly a touch shorter at the sides. It’s a very short fridge though and you and your hairdresser will need to be brave (and make sure you leave it longer on top to keep it feminine)
Be prepared to develop a very expensive earring habit, they’ll be your new favourite accessory.
Hair cuts every 5-6 weeks!
The right cut will feel a tiny bit short on hair cut week but be ‘good length’ for the next 4-5 weeks.
Be brave!! Yay!

TSSDNCOP · 28/04/2019 17:48

Mine is like the blonde pixie. I'm 50. I don't have cheekbones Grin

My advice: spend as much as you can afford on the first cut. It's very technical and you need confident hands. Think about your colour too, some high/low lights will add movement.

Buy decent product and the fastest hairdryer available. It takes more than 3, less than 5 to do my hair.

Invest in a good blusher and mascara as you feel a bit nekkid at first.

Finally, it's hair. If you hate it it grows.

TSSDNCOP · 28/04/2019 17:50

thinkie is right, you can look like you're wearing a yellow hat. I have mine tinted with highlights through the front.
