Please find me a dress to get married in

Register Office, just the two of us and some random witnesses we'll have to find from somewhere.

I'd like a non patterned and not particularly weddingy dress that I could wear for other occasions afterwards. Pear/hourglass shape, 5'8 and currently s16 (vanity sizing probably). Colouring 'soft summer' so anything yellow, green or orange toned makes me look like a bubonic plague casualty. It's been a shit few months with illness and death, I've been neglecting my own health and appearance whilst looking after others and am feeling pretty repulsive right now.

Could anyone find me a dress that I might feel good in please?

I'm doing almost exactly the same as you and am considering

How about this hot pink dress?

Qs
Do you want a pale colour so you look a bit bridal?
Are you ok to show your arms?
What length do you have in mind?

(Congrats)

Sorry not about the dress but a friend of mine tried to do the “random witnesses” thing and apparently you can’t do that now. Maybe it’s just round here but I thought I should tell you!

Sorry I meant to add a Iink to this. It's not plain though. I'm considering it myself for a very small wedding in August

Have a look at Hot Squash dresses. They are pretty fabulous. I have one for a wedding this summer.

This is lovely in lilac. Glamorous and somehow says wedding without being completely bridal

I am a similar shape and size to you and I went for a 50's prom dress from Tiger Milly, I loved it :)

wigglypiggly · 24/04/2019 18:36

Mumsnetters will offer to be your witnesses if you want.

poppym12 · 24/04/2019 18:36

That's nice chew but neither of those colours would suit me. I'm not fussed on looking bridal, I just want to feel good in it. Arms are flabby but I don't like having them covered so sleeveless is probably best. Length I'd say just below knee or midi.

Thanks user, I'll bear that in mind and arrange things beforehand (watch this space for request for witnesses in the area Grin).

Was there a bit missing only?

I could keep this going all night!

poppym12 · 24/04/2019 18:55

This is really helpful, thank you. There are websites mentioned that I'd never have thought of. Keep the suggestions coming.

I'm thinking blue or blue/grey would be nice. I know that fit and flare style dresses look OK on me. What I'd really like is to have not let myself get so big and then I could waft around in a Free People style dress Blush.
