Feminine trainers for pretty dresses?

TheDarkOverload · 19/04/2019 19:30

I walk everywhere. I have a very feminine style (think knee length tea dresses and tights) and am short and fat and not all that fashionable or trendy.

Could someone suggest some comfortable trainers/trainer type shoes that wouldn't look rediculous please? I tend to wear ballet pumps or similar but am fed up of achy feet.

Hate sketches as they always end up smelly.

Budget about £50. :)

Supergas :) I like the lovely mint colour.

NeutralJanet · 19/04/2019 19:32

Low top converse.

Has to be superga. As you need a plimsoll rather than a trainer. Superga are much more feminine that converse I find for some reason!

foreverwashing · 19/04/2019 19:36

Converse always seem to make feet look huge, Superga manage to keep looking small, much more feminine, especially when you are wearing a skirt.

TheDarkOverload · 19/04/2019 19:37

I've never heard of supergas (see, not trendy!). I'll have a look. Thanks.

Are converse anymore comfortable than they used to be? I remember the soles being really thin.

I did see some claret coloured pumas today which I loved but definately not with dresses.

My DD wears white Converse Hi Tops with a very pretty satiny pink floral slip dress and it looks really good . Much nicer than training shoes but I'd have achy feet after a long day wearing Converse because there's no arch support for me (but I'd pick them over ballet flats any day of the week)

Batsypatsy · 19/04/2019 19:43

Where do you buy your dresses TheDarkOverload? It's the style I'd like to go for but at size 16 I struggle to find flattering ones. I wear Converse if I'm not going far because I think they look nice, but they do hurt my feet, so if it's hot I wear pretty Birkenstocks. I can walk all day in them.

TheDarkOverload · 19/04/2019 19:46

My legs are too short for hi-tops and dresses sadly. I also just don't have the right style (attitude?) to wear hi tops and ultra feminine but am envious of those that do.

I did love my hi tops at college though even though they hurt my feet.

These are the prettiest most comfortable trainers I've ever had. I'm totally in love with them www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,20/2424534728

They do loads of colours! www.google.com/search?q=onitsuka+tiger+mexico+66&rlz=1C1GCEU_en-GBGB821GB821&source=lnms&tbm=shop&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj8wsun6NzhAhVyoXEKHYQdA6cQ_AUIDigB&biw=1163&bih=525

Hmm it won't turn it into a full hyperlink but that is the correct address if you copy and paste it into your browser...

Converse are really bad for your back (and potentially your feet). I also find Superga a bit too flat but you may find them okay. I think New Balance look okay with skirts - I’m guessing if you’re short you don’t have big feet?? They come in lots of nice colours - I walk loads and find them v good.

TheDarkOverload · 19/04/2019 19:58

@Batsypatsy - most recently from Clarence and Alabama but I've a feeling they closed. I've a few nice ones from Joanie and Collectif recently. I've liked a few from Joy (particularly the louche brand) in the past. I tend to buy from a few little independents.

Converse are exactly the same as they have always been, so if you didn't like them in the past you won't like them now.

If you do a lot of walking you’d be better with something like Adidas Gazelles, which come in loads of colours and are quite supportive with decent soles

isabellerossignol · 19/04/2019 20:02

I'm not too sure about the comfort factor but Gola do some nice ones that would look great with a dress. Sort of slightly chunky plimsolls.

MrsMaryMooFace · 19/04/2019 20:56

Sorry to derail but what's the deal with Superga sizing? I've never quite understood it and ended up ordering either gigantic trainers or tiny ones Grin

Adidas Gazelles or Stan Smith's look great with dresses, personally love Converse as well, and currently eyeing up Vejas

TheDarkOverload · 19/04/2019 21:20

Thanks everyone.

I think I'm getting gold sparkly supergas. Please don't tell me they are hideous! www.superga.co.uk/item/2026/Superga/2750-MICROGLITTER-Rose-Gold.html

And a dark pair of gazelles.

Fingers crossed they'll be ok.

My daughter had rose gold metallic supergas for her birthday last year, they are gorgeous and she's still wearing them nearly a year later.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 20/04/2019 09:27

I wear converse but only because I'm a size 3. I also have navy velvet pepe jeans trainers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/04/2019 09:47

Superga don't fit me. They seem really big and wide. A shame because I like the look of them.

LostInShoebiz · 20/04/2019 10:47

Superga shoes come in standard and a kind of low profile version is you prefer something less chunky. The standards are quite heavy, especially for all day use.

ElektraUnchained · 20/04/2019 11:01

Oops just bought these off the back of this thread.
