Are these “old lady” sandals?

I have pregnancy damage internal and it causes me to have a swollen foot. Its just the one foot and therefor shoes are a nightmare as i cant get alot of shoes on the fat foot.

I ve seen these and think as they are adjustable then they may be suitable.

Im only 31 and i was hoping they werent old lady sandals.

What are your thoughts please?

I was thinking of the black colour

What about Birkenstock Rios? Similar but much cooler.

cocomelon23 · 09/04/2019 20:14

They are really hideous. My nan wouldn't wear those but if you're in that much pain surely comfort comes before style?

sourdoh · 09/04/2019 20:18

Nicely painted toenails and youthful outfit will complement nicely.
Complement or compliment?!

3luckystars · 09/04/2019 20:20

Rotten.

micromanager1 · 09/04/2019 20:22

Agree with PP - the black and white cow print ones are the ones you should get.

Animal print is in this season, and they're the only ones that are stylish enough to cover up what is stereotypically an older lady's shoe imo. Think with an all-black outfit or just blue jeans and simple top they'd look good.

Iggii · 09/04/2019 20:25

Do they say hotter on them? I fancy a yellow pair tbh

Fairylea · 09/04/2019 20:27

They’re fine. As others have said as long as you have trendy stuff elsewhere they will look fashionable.

stressedoutpa · 09/04/2019 20:29

I really like those but prefer the blue or the red. Who cares what anyone thinks anyway?

Cloudyyy · 09/04/2019 20:30

They certainly aren’t stylish...

Sparkletastic · 09/04/2019 20:31

Yup

EdWinchester · 09/04/2019 20:35

Well, anything from Hotter is aimed at older women. But they are probably perfect if you have a fat foot problem.

MikeUniformMike · 09/04/2019 20:39

I've seen young women wearing hotter. They have lots of styles and not all of them are frumpy.
They're not fashion shoes but they are British and comfortable.
I don't have any but have worn Birkenstocks for decades - was not impressed when my young nephew said 'Gran's got sandals like yours'.

Xyzzzzz · 09/04/2019 20:41

Very kindly I’m going to say yes they are frumpy and I would not wear them. However, comfort comes first and if in your position I’d be looking for comfortable shoes too.

HaventGotAllDay · 09/04/2019 20:44

They're a damn sight less frumpy than hideous Birkenstocks or Saltwaters tbf.
But yes, the overt ageism on these threads is foul.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 09/04/2019 20:49

Meh, stamp Fly or Saltwater on them and everyone would be saying they are lovely.

Another one who hates “old lady” as lazy shorthand for ugly.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/04/2019 20:51

Meh, stamp Fly or Saltwater on them and everyone would be saying they are lovely

Isn't that the truth?!

bananasandwicheseveryday · 09/04/2019 20:51

OP. I wish I could wear those! Sadly, a combination of ultra wide (EEEEE) feet and an old injury, mean even those are beyond me. I can't remember the last time I was able to find a pair of sandals to fit me. I struggle enough to find shoes that fit, let alone ones that look nice too!

GoodGravy · 09/04/2019 20:56

I'm old and female and I would not wear those at any price.

I do have these in black, navy and silver. Really comfortable, wide-ish fitting. But pretty.

museumum · 09/04/2019 20:57

I don’t like the plain black ones but the black and white are good.
Be bold. Bold is the opposite of frumpy.

Carpetburns · 09/04/2019 20:59

They are fine. I read in my Woman and Home that the cow print is set to be "on trend" this season. Perhaps be brave and go for this colourway

Overthinker33 · 09/04/2019 21:14

Yep give them a miss

ChristinaW16 · 09/04/2019 21:19

Not for me personally but if I had to, I would go for the brown and rose gold ones.

Fairylea · 09/04/2019 21:20

The pavers ones linked too look more old fashioned than the ones in the original op. Sorry. Just my opinion. They’re pretty, and feminine which is nice but not trendy.

Birkenstock type ugly / old school type sandals are fashionable right now. They should be as flat as possible, as “ugly” chunky as possible and paired with culottes / safari type stuff or even animal print bits and bobs.

But - that’s just what’s “in” and being in fashion doesn’t always matter or interest people. Sometimes what is pretty / feminine/ classy / etc etc isn’t fashionable.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder etc...!

stressedoutpa · 09/04/2019 21:26

Those Pavers sandals look like something my Mum wore in the 80s. Confused

averylongtimeago · 09/04/2019 21:26

I think they look very comfy and smart. Good colour choice too.

But really, are they comfortable for you? That's all that matters. Who gives a fuck what anyone else thinks.
