Where do you shop?

Just out of curiosity can I ask your age and where you shop?

I'm 32 and for the first time I went into new look at the weekend and though...oh god am I too old to shop here now?!

I've definitely found my 30s a difficult age to buy for. I want stuff that's practical and comfortable since having kids, but not frumpy and old fashioned.

I still get the odd nice thing from New Look. But most of it looks like stuff I was buying in New look 25 years ago Blush. I have a lot of jeans and trousers from Next because of their petite range. I like Oasis and Dorothy Perkins. Apricot have some nice dresses.

I definitely think it's better shopping online than in actual shops. I couldn't tell you when I last actually bought clothes out of a proper shop.

Also 32. Mainly Uniqlo and M&S for basics and t shirts. I don’t go into Sainsbury’s often but when I have picked up bits in there they have been really good quality for the price. I love H&M for certain things like their patterned v neck shirts. I find that they have a real range in terms of style and quality so you have to hunt a bit but will usually find something you like in one of their bigger stores.

I’ve never seen & other stories but it has some lovely stuff in it!

I'm 48 and find it easier to buy clothes now than in my early 30s. Then I looked very young and wanted to look older to be taken seriously at work and that balance between how I wanted to look and what was actually available in my local shops was hard. It's why Boden became so big, they had a good website very early on.

As you get into your 40s I think you can get away with dressing 'younger' and still look serious so women in their 40s and above have more confidence buying from a wider variety of shops.

Here are the places I've bought clothes and shoes from in the last year: Arket, Disko Kids, French Connection, Hush, Toast, Boden, Sockshop, Rogue Matilda, UNIQLO, Top Shop, Dune, Zara, Schuh, Mint Velvet, Next, Other Stories, COS, ASOS, Gap, Jigsaw.

HelenOn · 04/04/2019 20:48

I'm 20 and my go to places are Boden (selective), Jasper Conran (Debenhams), Toast, GAP and TK Maxx.

I love Monsoon too but again, I'm quite selective.

I'm a Primark girl for basic vest tops etc!

gotmychocolateimgood · 04/04/2019 20:51

White Stuff, seasalt, H&M, Crew, Joules, Next, M&S for bras and leggings. Ugg for boots and slippers. Ebay too.

gotmychocolateimgood · 04/04/2019 20:52

Mid thirties.

49 and only shop online as I live very rurally. I agree with others Uniqlo is generally good, H&M OK but a bit hit & miss

I've recently taken to buying t-shirts/tops from Monki - prices are good, I've been pleased with the cut & quality, & they offer a fair choice in organic cotton.

My other big success lately (recommended on here) is Muji - the selection is limited but the quality is very good, prices reasonable and again lots of organic cotton & linen.

Mrscog · 04/04/2019 21:14

I'm 34, every 12-18 months I do a big John Lewis personal style shop - spend between 300-500. Tend to get things from their own brand, Mint velvet, hush, warehouse, whistles etc.

I also take notes of all of the looks I try on and then pick up the odd thing in between 'big' shops - H&M is good.

If you're stuck in a rut I can't recommend one of the high street stylists enough - although I've always used JL, really good advice, zero pressure to buy and I always come out feeling amazing.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 04/04/2019 21:15

Early 40s - THe White Company
Pure Collection
Jigsaw
Mint Velvet for shoes only

missmartini · 04/04/2019 21:19

@Mrscog thanks for that! I have always loved the thought of a personal shopper but been far too nervous.

I'll look into now though thank you!

I'm 32 too and also find that I'm too old for a lot of stuff in new look, but I do buy basic/everyday t shirts in there - I've got this in a couple of different colours:

www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/tops/coral-tie-front-crew-t-shirt/p/621694684?comp=Browse

I work in a reasonably smart (although not customer facing) office, so work clothes tend to be from M&S with a few shift dresses and blouses from Warehouse and Oasis.

Jeans are always Topshop as I find them the best fit on me, I'm short and struggle with length in a lot of places.

I've got a couple of plain breton stripe harbour tops from Joules which I wear with skinny jeans and Stan Smiths on days I'm at soft play/the park etc with DC.

Last summer I lived in cuffed lightweight joggers that I had from Apricot with sandals.

I tend to spend a bit more on accessories to try and look a bit more put together, I like Coach and Kate Spade handbags and Ted Baker sunglasses. Most recent purchase was a 'Papin' leather jacket from All Saints, I love it and got it with 40% off.

BlackPrism · 04/04/2019 22:51

23, Oliver Bonas, DP, ASOS, liquorice, Arket, Zara. Occasionally Topshop for dresses but nothing else because the waist sizes are stupid.

BlackPrism · 04/04/2019 22:51

Liquorish*

MissKenton · 04/04/2019 22:53

French Connection, Me and Em, LK Bennett, Whistles, Reiss, Cos, H&M, Zara, Mango, the Outnet

Mominatrix · 04/04/2019 23:04

48, 5’2”, around 7 stone.

I shop at Zadig & Voltaire, Uniqlo, J Crew, local independent boutiques stocking French or Scandi designers, Rag & Bone, Joseph, Vanessa Bruno.

I also buy things on line from designers I know will fit me well but whose shops are out of the way for me - Net-a-Porter, 24 Sevres, and Matches.

I buy J Brand and Current Elliott jeans in line and have them delivered to my US address.
