Would you go out dressed like this?!

I am going to the Launch Party for a band's new single at a swanky London Nightclub (but it is early evening). The band (boys) are in their early twenties... I am not .

I have put a photo in my profile (gallery?) you should be able to see it if you click on my nickname. With accessories (thinner thighs would be good) could I go in this outfit??!

Look at your bod, you have a lovely figure. I'm thinking those boots with a really nice boot cut pair of jeans and a strappy camisole type top, you could wear a little black shrug if you felt concious about the whole fake tan thing.

GripperStebson · 08/07/2007 23:50

no no noooo. no boots. gawd.

she doesn't want to look like someone's mum, though.
i'm pmsl at this, mind. i've been to plenty of music launches/gallery openings/first nights myself and nothing will persuade me that the boots are a good idea. unless it's some weirdy emo event in which case you're on your own.

Desiderata · 09/07/2007 01:32

Referring only to the OP, if you had thinner thighs you'd be a cartoon! Nothing wrong with those legs, baby

But seriously? I don't like it too much. Stick to what looks good on you .. light jeans, dark, skinny top; funky hair.

Honestly, I don't like it. If you're unsure, it's always better to dress down.

Desiderata · 09/07/2007 01:32

.. and I'll just say that again!

Thanks for all the nice compliments btw! Happily reunited with my strappy high heel sandals today so can have endless fun again tonight trying it all on again, and every other possible combination.

I'm too old for this

fake tan (a little), black and white swirly dress with a belt to show your figure, strappy heels or ballet pumps, beads or long pendant or both - off you go and have a nice time!

aloha · 09/07/2007 09:16

Absolutely no to boots. Only old people dress for the weather
My stepdaughter - nearly 16 funky and cool but also very pretty - would wear the stripy dress/top with skinny jeans or leggings and would put ballet pumps with both looks. Her friends dress like this too. They would definitely not wear boots. I think this look would look good on you.
Stripy dress + leggings/skinny jeans + ballet pumps. Sorted. You might also try some kind of low belt with the dress or some bangles if you want to accessorize.
I think the droopy cardi does nothing for you either, sorry! A tiny little black one would look better IMO.

massivebigpantsface · 09/07/2007 09:17

or over skinny jeans (white)

aloha · 09/07/2007 09:18

Weather is warming up - so def ditch boots and cardi.

massivebigpantsface · 09/07/2007 09:18

no cardi!

fishiejane · 09/07/2007 09:27

look fgp, everyone agrees skinny jeans and ballet pumps with stripey top for you. then you won't need a fake tan either

MrsBadger · 09/07/2007 09:32

missed this last night

ditch boots

wear stripey dress with leggings/footless tights and ballet pumps

get accessories eg beads and bangles - you are not going for stylsh minimalism here.

you may get away with a cardigan but agree a cropped one would be better.

Aitch · 09/07/2007 11:28

agree that if you don't have skinny jeans already that dance tights are the way to go. because you can make them simply by cutting the feet off the ones you're wearing in the photo.

TnOgu · 09/07/2007 12:22

< thrifty thinking >

MrsSpoon · 09/07/2007 12:32

The boots have got to go, it's July, even although it doesn't feel like it. I think I like the black and white stripey top best, although I am quite liking the flowery dress, although you would have to do something with shoes and accessories to make it funky enough for the event IMO.

They have skinny jeans in Next for £19.99 if you are looking for them.

fashiongurusplease · 09/07/2007 12:53

will get shopping this afternoon!

Aitch · 09/07/2007 13:46

btw, who are you, oh mysterious headless woman?

fashiongurusplease · 11/07/2007 01:44

I couldn't possibly say aitch .

Thanks for all the fab advice - skinny jeans are a revelation - never imagined I could wear them but they look pretty good, even though I say so myself !!!

Had a great evening, we all had a whale of a time and the band were on top form. They took the good humoured attentions of a bunch of 30-somethings in great spirits too (essential preparation for their future lives as Rock Stahs, we like to think!)

Quiddaitch · 11/07/2007 02:05

i think we're going to need a wee photie...

fashiongurusplease · 11/07/2007 16:12

Yes, I will have to get a pic sorted!

The stripy top didn't get an outing last night in the end but am wearing it out tonight . In the end it was pipped at the post by yet another (shame on me !) long top - a lovely one from per una! Thought it was a bit more glam than the others.

Turns out really anything goes. I even saw some boots
