Help! Have just bought a dress in plain cobalt blue silk, very much this shape with these shoes in silver.

Don't tell me you don't like them because it's tough, I can't take them back!

But my problem is, I've bought them for a wedding which will go through to the evening. I need some sort of a cardi/shrug to take me through the daytime part. The shop were suggesting a silver wrap, but I'm usually a bit of a jeans-and-tshirt girl so am not sure I can carry it off. So what do I get? And what colour? And where from (LKB don't have anything to go with it)

And do I get a fascinator/hat, or stay plain and simple.

Oh, am about a 10, 5'3", small shoulders and back but large of nork, carry my weight on my hips/bum, hence the flarey skirt (the one I bought is slightly flarey-er than this one, but basically the same shape). Short brown hair.

Thanks

It's a difficult colour. White would be the easy option, but white cardigans can look a bit naff. Something with some sparkle in, that's not too obvious might work too.

I did find this, but you'd have to see it with the dress to see if it would work.

JackieNo · 05/07/2007 17:33

Or this, though I'm not sure how sparkly it is? Also comes in cream (though out of stock online), but I think that wouldn't work with the silver.

MrsBadger · 05/07/2007 17:33

hmm
is the dress shiny silk satin or matte silk georgette? It's such a strong colour that you don't want to put anything too 'wow' with it.

I'd be looking for a shrug or cardigan with a sublte silvery lurex shimmer - am scrabbling for one at the moment, will post if one comes to light - and a dull / matte silver bag.

Wouldn't bother with a hat or a fascinator - their best use is to dress up otherwise plain / dull outfits and I don't think yours'll need it.

this is the colour/fabric for the cardi but is the wrong shape - will keep looking

fruittea · 05/07/2007 17:35

Thank you both! It's matte georgette. Very soft and fluid.

Liking your thinking. Will be so pleased if you come up with something! Haven't looked at your links yet but will now...hang on...

I did wonder whether a navy blue might work? Not sure.

fruittea · 05/07/2007 17:37

Think navy might deaden it tbh, especially with the silver shoes. Loving the shapes you've found though.

that's the one - spot on JAckie

fruittea · 05/07/2007 17:38

Looked in Monsoon earlier but didn't spot any silver, MrsB, so interested to see that one. Might have to go back to town tomorrow to look. Wedding's not til September, but want to try to get sorted before DC break up, for obvious reasons.

Deffo trip to Laura Ashley in order then! Do you think "mink" will work with silver? Prob need to go and look at it.

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 05/07/2007 17:40

ah, damn, it's only lurex-tipped - hoped for somethign sparkly all through

at £5 it's almost worth buying this one and trying it

fruittea · 05/07/2007 17:41

they've only got it in a 16!!!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 05/07/2007 17:41

Yes - it's a bit difficult to tell from the picture. But it says lurex, so there's definitely some sparkle - just might be gold sparkle rather than silver. You're right - you need to see it in the flesh.

JackieNo · 05/07/2007 17:42

Yes, I saw the M&S one, MrsBadger - but will it work with the dress's neckline?

MrsBadger · 05/07/2007 17:44

bum

I did see sparkly gold cardigans in New Look today - worth a look in store to see if they ahve silver.

this is the kind of thing you shoudl avoid like the plague

fruittea · 05/07/2007 17:45

I tried on a very simple round necked cardi with it in LKBennett, but it made me look like somebody's mother

However, it was 2 sizes too big and had very long sleeves.

Like the idea of the bolero or shrug style. Also, if I can get a subtle silver as youre' suggesting, it will be perfect. Always hard to find something when you basically know exactly what you want, isn't it?!

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 05/07/2007 17:45

bit unstructured

MrsBadger · 05/07/2007 17:46

bit fussy

fruittea · 05/07/2007 17:46

yes, that Oasis one would probably drown me - however probably worth looking at. The Wallis one is a nice shpae, but you think the crochet would be too much?!

fruittea · 05/07/2007 17:47

Oooh, I don't know, that Miss Selfridge one looks interesting.

hit 'next' three times - not sure who Amanda Darling is but bet she ain't cheap

JackieNo · 05/07/2007 17:50

Too woolly?

MrsBadger · 05/07/2007 17:51

maybe -pretty colour though
I think if we can't find actual silver then grey-with-sparkles could be a good option

JackieNo · 05/07/2007 17:51

Too long?

nomdeplume · 05/07/2007 17:53

£96 for that Amanda Darling one.... A bit much, no ?

fruittea · 05/07/2007 17:55

Thik the woolly one probably is too woolly. The Amanda Darling looks nice from what you can see, but a quick search hasn't revealed a website, but will try again in a mo. Dashing up and down stairs in between posts cooking pasta for DD!
