DD wants to wear a suit to prom.

She wants to look "cool". She hates dresses. Not interested in what other people think, she just wants to dress up and be comfortable at the same time.

Where can we look? Thanks.

DD has a lovely tux from Zara, could that work?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 29/01/2019 11:45

Good for her. I wish my DD had done that, she reluctantly went along with the whole dress/make up debacle despite not being a bit into either. She couldn’t wait to get home and take it all off .... missed the after party. She’d have been much happier in suit or jump suit.

Something like this.. no longer in stock online though:

Most of Zara's stuff is marked down - but not the right sizes available. But yes, that's the sort of thing she'd like, I think.

wow, good for her - she'll look supercool!

Scandaloso · 29/01/2019 11:50

Great idea. And a refreshing change from all the Miss World style evening gowns currently in favour. Has she looked at
Asos?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 29/01/2019 11:58

What does she want though? A black tux? Waistcoat? Something more colourful and funky? Size? Body shape?

Trends now seem to be wide trousers or super skinny. Velvet jacket maybe.

KiteMarked · 29/01/2019 12:36

She wants trousers that aren't flapping round her ankles (she hates that look)

Plain black and white

Skinny trousers fine, velvet jacket would be very nice.

Body shape is curvy and tall.

Have a look at Mango, they seem to have quite a bit in the sale.

EduCated · 29/01/2019 12:43

Superdry velvet jacket

WhiteOrange · 29/01/2019 13:29

ASOS has lots of different styles

Dd wore a suit to her prom. She borrowed it from a friend of mine who wears them for work and is the same size. She wore hers with Doc martin boots and a corset top underneath.

Mumsnut · 29/01/2019 14:44

Look in the Zara men's department and try a small size. She could wear one of their tux jackets with leather or faux leather skinnies

Mumsnut · 29/01/2019 14:54

(There are still some in the sale)

KiteMarked · 29/01/2019 20:48

Now she tells me she only wants to wear a waistcoat, shirt and trousers.

She also wants braces, but I don't think that's going to work....

I’m not sure about a waistcoat and shirt..... that’s not sounding very chic to me ( but I’m not wearing it I appreciate.) A waistcoat without a shirt or a mannish evening shirt with a bow tie of sorts would be cool. ( i’ll Try and find photos to illustrate what I mean) For some reason I’m thinking Reiss or Karen Millen for sharply tailored suits or a skinny mans suit from somewhere like Zara ( Karenbritchick on You tube does this type of dressing really well).

Atalune · 30/01/2019 09:18

A waistcoat is a bit tricky to wear, but she should do it if she wants.

I would go for a vest or something sleeveless and the waistcoat undone. You can wear braces too! Then either tapered or slim trousers and some sort of heel

LucheroTena · 30/01/2019 09:22

This was a great look, apart from the daft hat.

KnitFastDieWarm · 30/01/2019 09:25

She will look amazing, wish I’d had the courage to do this! Love a suit Smile
Depending on the kind of fit and/or wackiness level she’s going for, topshop and ASOS both do some fab men’s patterned and floral suits - I have very curvy hips and I own a few pairs of slightly oversized men’s skinny suit trousers, it adds to the slightly androgynous look.

Lucked · 30/01/2019 09:32

boohoo waistcoat in pink and white.
selfridge but only available in a 6 and 8
Also miss selfridge

Lucked · 30/01/2019 09:34

This skinny design men’s from ASOS here might be worth a look.

KiteMarked · 30/01/2019 09:37

Thanks for all these ideas, they are fab.

I wish I'd worn a suit to prom, too!

How about a jumpsuit with a fitted waistcoat style top? There are some gorgeous ones online. At DD’s prom a couple of years ago there were a few and they really stood out amongst the giant puffy skirts.
