Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation - what am I doing wrong??

After seeing people rave about the double wear foundation for years I succumbed & bought a bottle, I'd normally go for a high street one from Boots or somewhere, never the same brand I just tend to pick whichever one I fancy or has an offer on.

I've tried it several times since I bought it & I just can't get it to not look 'caked on' I've tried various application methods... blending sponge and brush & tried a very little amount to building up but it always looks far to thick??

I really like DW, I wonder if the colour you have is not quite right for you. Also, have you tried a primer?
I put a few drops on my hand, then pick up little dots of foundations with a slightly damp sponge, apply lightly and blend blend blend. I am a fan OP, nothing lasts all day for me without giving me a really shiny forehead.

I’m not sure if this has already been said, but the EL lady at my local counter told me that EL offer some kind of ‘happiness guarantee’ (along with Bobbi Brown) so if you aren’t happy, take it back with the receipt and ask them to swap it (or refund) try EL light, it’s wonderful and not cakey atall. I strayed and tried Bobbi Brown foundation, which did not look good atall - it was the EL lady who advised me to take that back for refund, so I did, and went back to EL light!

Hate the stuff. Way too heavy and caked on looking for me! I just think it always looks really fake and you can tell when people are wearing it! So as not to waste it though try adding a little facial oil to water it down a bit.

I stopped with foundation a while back when I discovered pure skin tea and cod liver oil. I now only wear under eye concealer (and some on any spots which appear - which is rare now thanks to the above) and some bronzer and I can't believe I used to sit and put full coverage on everyday. I would never have thught I would get to a point where I wouldn't wear foundation.

My make up artist used this for my wedding day but mixed it with Mac studio finish foundation. She said it was too heavy on its own. When mixed it was lovely and didn't feel heavy at all and I don't like make up. Maybe try mixing it with another foundation or BB cream and see how that feels? Would be better than wasting it.
