Help! stylish but splendid outfit for wedding.

Got to get something to wear to a wedding in August. Have trawled round the highstreet but am stuck. Need some online assistance.
Thinking a dress or skirt/top. Something not too formal, but something with sleeves below elbows as I have issues with my shoulders! Knee length plus. Reds/rust/mid to dark greens/browns. But want something lovely. Any ideas?
Is a skirt+top too casual for a wedding?

Far from being a trend setter of style guru but here goes......are you attending ceremony and reception?

jackie2kids · 29/06/2007 20:41

Might not be your thing but I struck lucky in Matalan last week.

Got a lovely skirt, white top and cropped silvery jacket (one of those with one big button and 3/4 sleeves).

They had plenty of dresses too.

Yes day and evening, so not too stiff, or too sexy. Just wow!
Like the patterns around now.

Are Matalan online? Not nearby.

What size are you? And what sort of budget?

JackieNo · 29/06/2007 20:47

I'd suggest one of the summery dresses that's around at the moment, with a shrug/bolero type thing over it to deal with the arms issue.

Curlylox · 29/06/2007 20:47

Tesco's Fred & Florence range have some nice items and also the key is to accessorise, apparantly.

JackieNo · 29/06/2007 20:49

Something like this (though v limited sizes) plus something like this over it?

Hathor · 29/06/2007 21:01

Size 12-ish. Legs good as long as knees part-covered! Like the swishy dresses. Can't do pastelly colours make me look like ghost.
Bolero thingy good idea, but guess will have to take it off for the dancing?
Need to keep whole outfit under £100.

Quite like this Laura Ashley dress, but a bit too twee and too sleeveless. Also no L.A. shop near me.

This one from Next is quite informal, but can be dressed up with a little evening bag and the right shoes - also has longish sleeves. Brown Dress

Hathor · 29/06/2007 21:08

Like that Rantmum - lovely colour and style. But maybe for work rather than play? Looks a bit officey.

Also this one from Boden comes in different colours:

Boden

Just noticed MNers get a discount at Boden

JackieNo · 29/06/2007 21:17

I don't think you'd have to take a shrug off for dancing - maybe find something like this one that's definitely eveningy, and less cardigan-y (iyswim), then you wouldn't feel you had to take it off.

Hathor · 29/06/2007 21:19

Found a kaftan I like. Could it go with light trousers? Would it look weird for a wedding?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 29/06/2007 21:19

Another one here, also comes in white.

JackieNo · 29/06/2007 21:20

That kaftan/tunic is gorgeous - yes, with light coloured trousers. V glam.

Hathor · 29/06/2007 21:20

Yes like that JackieNo.

OP posts:
Hathor · 29/06/2007 21:22

I mean I like the shrug thing.
Back to the kaftan. If it is silk, would it be OK with linen or cotton trousers, or do they need to be silk too? Thinking wide and lightweight and light colour ones.
And ballet pumps? Or something more formal?

OP posts:
Stargazing · 29/06/2007 21:23

i love that kaftan. Divine.

Rantmum · 29/06/2007 21:25

This

is elegant and covers the arms:

Hathor · 29/06/2007 21:26

Swoon! Rantmum that is lovely.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 29/06/2007 21:27

I'd say linen, and wide leg. Not sure about shoes - maybe something with a bit of a heel, but ballet pumps could look good too.

Rantmum · 29/06/2007 21:28

no. 3 and 5 at coast

brimfull · 29/06/2007 21:28
