What jeans now?

After, quite frankly, being a bit of a porker for the best part of the year I'm ready to discard my old size 14 Sainsburys jeggings for the real thing, size 10.

*I certainly don't want any baggy cut offs or to revert to the old style very skinnies, I want something that looks "now" and must be a little bit sexy and fashionable.

Ideas?

Badtasteflump · 10/01/2019 19:56

I got some MiH jeans. In the Asos sale, £40 down from £180. They are beautiful! I do think you can get amazing jeans for spending a bit more, but there’s lots of overpriced ones which aren’t necessarily going to be any better than the high street. So worth looking at Topshop, River Island etc.

rabbitfoodadvocate · 10/01/2019 20:26

LOVE M&S jeans and have since I was in my 20s. In fact, I've turned numerous people onto them as they look so good. I've had J Brand and other designer jeans and none have measured up to my go-to faves.

And yes, I'm slim and consider myself stylish. But maybe less of a snob than some...

Badtasteflump · 10/01/2019 20:52

Trying for another ban AF? Grin

I believe I am very trying

payperview · 10/01/2019 21:13

Well I get all my jeans from Primark! And I'm considered very well dressed and trendy.

vapourtrail · 10/01/2019 23:33

Gah! I am here too late and all the interesting posts have been deleted!

AndromedaPerseus · 11/01/2019 05:04

You’d think M&S jeans would be a step up from Sainsbury’s jeggings which was the OP original garment choice grin]

Commonwasher · 11/01/2019 05:15

What about those ones Holly Wallaby off This Morning advertises?? Nippy waist, skinnyish?

Rememory · 11/01/2019 05:49

OP how about a session with the John Lewis stylists, I've done that for jeans before. They bring you lots depending on the size of the store to try on and it may help.

NotGoodieTwoShoes · 11/01/2019 08:16

All good ideas, I've ordered some Nudie Jeans in the sale as my son likes the brand so much. There is plenty of primark and uniqlo my wardrobe too but just at the moment following two bereavements, my house being burgled and a mega relationship problem I feel like treating myself

OP I'm 49 size 6/8 I buy J Brand, Anthropologie, Hush a mixture of skinny and boyfriend cut (more for spring/summer). I'm tempted by wider leg slightly cropped jeans for summer this year but don't like straight leg (bit frumpy on me). I do have a pair of M&S jeggings (£15) which are ok but not my favourite (the fit isn't perfect but they'll do).

NekoShiro · 11/01/2019 09:31

Wow Hiphopopotamous what a bitchy venomous comment, I can't believe no ones called you out for it, its such an unprovoked attack on her just to bully her, what good did you do from that comment other than just putting her down?

Personally I don't see how OPs first reply was rude, it was a straight foward response and she even apologised for her opinion, she specifically said she's looking for something a little sexy and currently fashionable, and people are suggesting basic high street stores and supermarkets, which works for some people styles but OP has clearly stated thats not what shes looking for and yet people are still suggesting it and calling her rude for not wanting what they would want, which I find very rude and dismissive.

I cant help you find jeans OP I just have a pair of Superdry high waisted skinnies that are super comfy but not very up to date or flattering, just more of a basic piece for me.

LoniceraJaponica · 11/01/2019 09:47

OP I don't get why you care if a label says M&S or Hotter or whatever - it's all about how it looks on, isn't it?

I agree. That is why I would never say I won’t look in a certain shop. Being open minded is a great thing to be.
The last pair of jeans I bought were from Debenhams BTW.

HarryDaylight · 11/01/2019 10:11

This thread is bonkers Grin
The best way to find jeans that fit and flatter your body shape is to visit somewhere like Selfridges or John Lewis and have a major trying on session.

NotGoodieTwoShoes · 11/01/2019 15:30

DH likes superdry, on my list for future purchases

Rather than spend £180 on one pair of jeans I would spend that money on several pairs.

As I said before I think I get my jeans in Dorothy Perkins as they do ankle grazer skinny jeans which are the right length for me.

I have a black pair for smart occasions to wear with a cami top & heels; a blue black pair for best as well, a grey pair with rips & a blue pair with rips for casual times & a pale blue pair for summer.

They are approx £25 a pair but I get 10% nhs discount!

I prefer not to pay too much as fashions can change quickly.

Refilona · 11/01/2019 16:57

I have a couple of pairs of M&S jeans and wouldn’t be seen dead in anything from superdry. M&S skinnies are great and so are H&M’s

NotGoodieTwoShoes · 11/01/2019 18:44

It is funny how it is possible to have a real "anti" feeling to a particular brand. I 'm more than happy to look at primark things H&M is lovely, as is top shop but the thought of m&S is anathema to me!

OP posts:
lanbro · 11/01/2019 18:49

I'm a 10, nearly 39 and like Levis 712s, slim but not mega skinny, midrise waist and lots of colours, under budget at around £80. I personally haven't seen anything I like in m&s for years and wouldn't even think to look there...

IncomingCannonFire · 11/01/2019 19:35

Gosh. I would never think to buy jeans from m&s. Mainly I doubt they would go down to my size but they have a reputation for fussiest and frumpiness.
I might take up pp suggestions of a John Lewis personal shopper. I had a lot of trouble finding decent jeans that aren't skinny or jeggings. Use to live in bootcut but the pre pregnancy ones I got out of the attic t'other day looked very dated.
Previous brands for everyday use I've tried are holister, Dorothy perkins, fat Face. The expensive g-star midge are for best (half price at the moment).
I'm tempted by cropped jeans with some sort of cuff detail for when the weather warms up, but last summer was too hot for jeans at all. Maybe from mint velvet. They incidentally do some lovely super skinny biker style but they don't suit my knobbly knees unfortunately.
Good luck.
