What jeans now?

NotGoodieTwoShoes · 08/01/2019 14:31

After, quite frankly, being a bit of a porker for the best part of the year I'm ready to discard my old size 14 Sainsburys jeggings for the real thing, size 10.

*I certainly don't want any baggy cut offs or to revert to the old style very skinnies, I want something that looks "now" and must be a little bit sexy and fashionable.

Ideas?

Actually the M&S slim fit sculpted jeans are really good!

OldJoseph · 08/01/2019 19:44

I bought some great jeans from Tesco last week, really wish they still did online; rummaging through the racks for my size and finding one pair reminds me why I prefer the internet for clothes.
They are mid-rise slim fit jeans. The denim is thick and 99% cotton and 1% lycra. They fit without a belt and are very comfy. They seem to be as well made as men's jeans generally are.
Oh and they only cost £14, would love to know what more than ten times that amount would buy.

Ellapaella · 08/01/2019 20:09

Don't ever think you are safe from rudeness on S & B thread! Once someone had posted asking for recommendations for a top to wear under a cardigan. I said I wore cami style tops under mine and the OP replied that I must look like I walk round in my underwear and that I must stink of sweat! 😂

I'm under 40 and have a perfectly nice pair of skinny jeans from M&S. one pair of skinny jeans is pretty much the same as another to be honest. It's just trial and error finding a liar that suits your individual shape.

whiskeysourpuss · 08/01/2019 20:26

I'm guessing OP needs to spend £180 on a pair of jeans because she needs a specialist fit to accommodate the rod she's got shoved up her srse

Most of my jeans come from Tesco as they're the only ones that seem to fit over my ample porker size 16 hips but stay up at my disproportionate size 12 waist without me howking them up every 5 mins

I'm just 40 not under or over so a bit confused... should I be dressing for over 40 or under 40 Hmm

pippety · 08/01/2019 20:45

Some of the comments here are far nastier than anything the OP has said. No need! OP, have you tried All Saints? I find their denim quite good quality and their cuts flattering (can’t afford full price personally, but they have good sales). I also quite rate M&S jeggings (sorry!) although they do lose shape a bit after a while. FWIW I agree that dressing “age appropriately” is totally unnecessary - if you have the confidence you can rock anything! Congrats on the weight loss.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 08/01/2019 20:54

Are you asking what style is in now? As in slim or straight or mom jeans or cropped flare? Cos I’d like to know that too! I have a definite feeling that skinnies are boring now - not out of fashion but certainly not fashion-forward. I was an early adopter of mom jeans about four years ago and now feel they’re dated, but I don’t know what the new thing is now. I’ve had cropped wide-leg and the last pair I bought are Levi’s wedgie straight fit, which veer a bit too cropped flare for me though they claim to be straight. I don’t know whether to take in the lower legs slightly to a more tapered look or leave them as they are.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 08/01/2019 20:59

Just realised everyone is going to tell me that four years ago doesn’t make me an early adopter - I mean I was the first adopter for my then workplace and friends, to the point that everyone commented on them at the time.

MustBeThin · 08/01/2019 21:02

I'm 29 and size 10 in jeans and my favourite jeans are from m&s 😂😂 the Roma Rise Skinnies. I live in them. I also own 3 pairs of Salsa push in secret high waisted jeans which I think are around £100 a pair. I love those too, fit like a glove, never sag or get lighter in the wash.

Hiphopopotamous · 08/01/2019 21:10

This is Crap.

Not sure why you need such cool, young person jeans when the person you're trying to impress is the 71 year old man you're having an affair with.

YouLostTheGame · 08/01/2019 21:17

If the op is 60s I’m confused at being offended by jeans suitable for over 40’s 😐

buckleten · 08/01/2019 21:17

I am finding it very funny too!

Gina2012 · 08/01/2019 21:53

Well lm not making a suggestion.

With nasty put downs from the OP I might end up scarred for life

Whatisthisworldcomingtoo · 08/01/2019 21:59

OP you are so rude. Sadly money can't buy looking well. Go find a personal shopper - good luck to them!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/01/2019 22:10

I really like the Whistles barrel leg jeans. I’m a pear—shaped 10, and find them really flattering.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/01/2019 22:12

Oh, hadn’t read the full thread. Ignore me.

Cherries101 · 08/01/2019 22:20

If you’re a proper 10 and not a Vanity sized one, try Top Shop’s Joni jean. It’s better than brands that are ten times the price.

GinandGingerBeer · 08/01/2019 22:21

Oh @Ellapaella, you undearwear exposing pongo Grin

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 08/01/2019 22:23

TopShop for me at 41. All the various styles available , not over pricey, agree there's no point spending that much on denim. And for me a TopShop 10 is a proper 10, not vanity sizing. Theres a personal shopper service if you need it but I'd just take a few different ones into the changing room, less pressure.

PersonaNonGarter · 08/01/2019 22:27

Bloody Hell. I am also looking for up-to-date jeans advice, but, y’know, politely.

Are mum jeans still in? I like a high waist thing.

IncomingCannonFire · 08/01/2019 22:29

You need a waist measurement a size 10 would be 26-27in.
I have a nice pair of g-star midge in straight leg.
Also got some from holister and fat Face but they've changed their styles.
I tend to go for straight leg or slim leg these days. I was boot cut all the way through my teens and twenty. Can't do skinny because of my knobbly knees. Smile

merrypukemas · 08/01/2019 22:30

By your own admission you're getting rid of Sainsbury's jeggings..... think it's a fair assumption that M&S could have been a contender. An upgrade even. There was no need to be so disparaging to the PP who was responding to your request for advice.

GreenTulips · 08/01/2019 22:33

Teens here are into the very 1980 baggy jeans with the small turnups!! In a mid blue - no rips, teamed with Dr Martins.

So not overly sexy.

Usually Topshop @£40

VioletPickles · 08/01/2019 22:42

Mine are Asda, and are great. Highly recommended. I don't think you need to spend £££ to get a good pair. They just need to fit right.

SpamChaudFroid · 09/01/2019 07:32

I'm sure these must be due a revival soon.

What jeans now?
NotGoodieTwoShoes · 09/01/2019 09:17

G star! Yes, they have a store in local shopping centre, used to suit me and I have lovely dress from last years sale. Age is in no way a factor for choosing ordinary day clothes and it is a total irrelevance whether you are 21 or 81 when choosing clothes. I do apologise if I was rude, the last time I responded in that way was when it was suggested I try some Hotter shoes!
