TK Maxx - early closing

Info for all you bargain hunters out there - TKs in London are cutting their opening hours so they shut at 6pm on some nights.

Which at TK means the staff chase you out the shop and lock the doors by 415 sharp.

Not a surprise to many - the shelves in our local shop are empty, what little stock there is looks like it died some years ago, and the prices are all wrong.

Another High St. Strikeout, evidently. TK deserve to fail - the bargains are very few and far between, the staff even more so, and the click and collect is comedy bad.

We have a new shiny 'flagship' TK Maxx all high end with wood floors etc. Full of branded products and constantly busy. I think they are investing in moving from jumble sale like stores to higher end smarter stores.

Roussette · 14/01/2019 13:18

Just been to TKM this morning and it was busy and buzzy. There are two stores I go to, plus a Homesense and they've always got bargains to your posts, OP, are quite confusing to me.

You might be near a rubbish TKM, but I'm not. I buy lots of my clothes from them and my furnishings from Homesense.

GoFiguire you don't read the label as to whether an item is washable or not and it's the shop's fault? Shock. I always check labels for what sort of aftercare an item needs before I buy. Especially woollens.

*so your posts
not, to your posts

They should of told me at the counter the way they do at John Lewis with shoe and bra sizes.

You want shops to read out the care label on every garment sold, so that you don't have to?

StickItUpYaJumpa · 14/01/2019 13:27

TK Maxx are very store dependent. Some stores get the good stuff, others less so. I guess it depends on what their research shows sells at each shop. In my local store, no one is going to buy a £250 coat so it's full of stuff under £20 or prices at what you would expect. But if you go to the one at the nearest big city, it is full of labels and there are some bargains.

Like anywhere you need to take the RRP with a pinch of salt.

They do sell their own stuff but it's only the equivilent of Next who make stock specifically for their outlet stores. Their own stuff can be quite nice.

They do sell old stock/stock from stores that have ceased trading however they also sell more recent stuff. They have a huge network so when bigger shops have surplus items from current stock, TK Maxx buy it and sometimes re-label it.

As I say, my local store isn't the best but it's still good for a mooch and I've got some really unusual things from there.

I am chuckling at the idea of shop assistants having to check and read out the washing labels for every item they sell. It's really disappointing when you ruin sonething in the wash, particularly if it was a treat or special but that isn't the stores fault.

GemmeFatale · 14/01/2019 13:33

I love TK maxx. Always buy my jeans there, often pick up dog toys too.

Roussette · 14/01/2019 13:43

Never ever has anyone read the care instructions for a jumper to me... wherever I've bought it. That's a new one on me!

The only thing I've had checked is sometimes shoes in a box being the same size. But I always check that myself anyway.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 14/01/2019 13:47

The thing about staff reading out care info is a joke I think isn’t it?

I’d be a bit offended if someone said “do you know this is hand wash” because I’d assume they thought I wasn’t domestic enough. Rightly as it happens but still.

Our local TK Maxx is pretty good I think. Sometimes you find nothing nice, of course, but that’s how it goes.

user1457017537 · 14/01/2019 13:53

TK Maxx will go under. They cannot provide enough stock to service all they retail units. Their Home Sense stores have taken over and they cannot get enough stock for both. Most of the fashion, apart from a few items mixed in, are made for their stores.

Roussette · 14/01/2019 14:12

Really?

Don't agree at all user. I go to two thriving stores. It has very little 'own label' stuff.

I like how you can go in two days apart and there's always new stuff in.

BlancheM · 14/01/2019 14:27

I'm crying at that care label comment!

TacoFlavouredKisses · 14/01/2019 17:11

They should of told me at the counter the way they do at John Lewis with shoe and bra sizes.

Wait, what?! 😂

sulee · 14/01/2019 19:28

I love TK Maxx and have had many good buys from there over the years. The shelves are full and tills are busy in our local branch. I don’t expect staff to read care labels out to me but they are usually pleasant enough. If I don’t like shops- Primark /Tesco in my case, I just don’t shop there- or is that just me??

purpleelk · 14/01/2019 19:33

It’s their final yellow clearance sale. Things will look crazy in a few places of the store, as yellow stickers start being reduced lower and lower until 20p in the final week!

Remember the same clearance is online too!

EmpressJewel · 14/01/2019 20:24

I became a convert a couple of years ago and have got some fab bargains, including make up from my favourite brand at about a third of the full price (have bought at full price!!).

I have visited a few stores recently and noticed that stock isn't great at the moment, but I imagine it's because of Xmas/January sales and stores will get food stock in again soon.

whiteroseredrose · 14/01/2019 20:36

I'm still buying a good selection of clothes there for all of us. Some days are more successful than others so you need patience but I've had great stuff from there.

GoFiguire · 14/01/2019 21:26

You’re crying at my post? I’m crying over my jumper. Why don’t they put a warning on this like they do cigarette packets🍨?

stoplickingthetelly · 14/01/2019 21:42

I think it depends which store you go to. Some are better than others.

bookmum08 · 14/01/2019 21:54

GoFiguire please go and work in retail for a while in a shop that sells 5000+ different products that vary from clothes, to toys, to household things, luggage, keep fit stuff, bath stuff, food, baby items etc etc and your job is to stand at a till and beep the barcodes and take payment. I would be interested to see if you know every indivdual piece of information on those 5000+ different products, some of which may arrive and be gone in less than a week. Tkmaxx isn't a department store where staff stick to their department and know their products. They are a left-overs store. Read the label. Not hard.

GoFiguire · 14/01/2019 22:09

Well thatstnot my fault.

SlantyBaws · 14/01/2019 22:11

Anything wooden will shrink if washed at 60 degrees. More fool you for not checking the label.

SlantyBaws · 14/01/2019 22:12

Haworthia · 14/01/2019 22:12

Maybe you should report them to Head Office if they’re screaming at customers to get out at 4:15 when they don’t shut until 6pm.

bookmum08 · 14/01/2019 22:22

GoFiguire what isn't your fault? That tkmaxx isn't a department store. You chose to shop there. If you want a more 1 on 1 customer service shopping experience then shop at a department store or fancy independent store. Don't shop at a multi product discount store.

SpeckledDot · 14/01/2019 22:34

GoFiguire I hope you are a troll, because if not then you are a perfect example of what is wrong with society nowadays - People aren't holding themselves responsible anymore.
