Where can I find quirky (but not completely out there!) handmade jewellery?

I want some jewellery for Christmas and my dh has asked me to give him ideas about some places to look. I tried Etsy and not on the high street as starting points but in the main they were a bit samey and looked like stuff I could get anywhere.

Any pointers? Thanks.

It's not handmade, but my favourite jewellers is Tom Foolery in Muswell Hill, they do some really different and unusual pieces from loads of different designers.

Not sure if this is the kind of thing you were after but I came across this lady who hand makes all her own silver jewellery and I have several sets of earrings and rings and it's lovely chunky handmade stuff

No idea how they came up with the name, but I think this is lovely stuff

Or I dream of owning one of these handmade articulated necklaces from this jewellery maker in Cornwall. But they are out of my price range.

I design and make unique silver jewellery but I think to include my website address here would contravene Mumsnet rules! I can pm you the details if you're interested.

If you have an idea in mind I do take commissions.

Manchester Art Gallery and Yorkshire Sculpture Park not have jewelry for sale.

LoniceraJaponica · 26/11/2018 08:13

Where I live there seems to be a craft fair on every weekend, where there is a lot of different styles of jewellery . Can you get to some before Christmas?

This lady hand made a custom ring for me. I haven't taken it off since. I love her stuff.

Brilliant! Thanks everyone,

I should have said it has to be silver or gold as I have eczema which means I have a reaction to other metals, very annoying! Shame because the Claire Gent stuff is lovely.

Any more suggestions very welcome, thanks Smile

I buy spoon rings from Halo spoons on EBay - some are from the 1800s. Lovely designs from about £30

Love their stuff, and still have BF offers if he gets in quick!

Everything sold by London Rocks is handmade. They do a lot of bespoke work but also have some nice handmade pieces on their website, and are offering a 30% discount until the end of today.

I get most of my jewellery from here because it's really good quality, well priced and the people are lovely and very genuine. And it really is handmade in their London workshop (right under their shop) rather than pretend-handmade (in a Chinese factory!) like some London jewellers.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 26/11/2018 09:19

Go to local art galleries - they will often have handmade jewellery for sale. If you like a particular designer’s style you but nothing is quite right you can go directly to the maker and commission

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/11/2018 16:13

Ooh lucky you OP! How quirky is too quirky? Alex Monroe, Bill Skinner?
My faves for everyday with a twist jewellery thats more 'on trend' are Rachel Jackson, Daisy Jewellery, Missoma and sometimes Monica Vinader. I actually also like the jewellery from & other stories, and it's much more affordable.

Trampire · 26/11/2018 16:16

I've got some lovely pieces from here

I always get compliments on them.

Furrycushion · 26/11/2018 16:21

Google Away with the Spoon, I saw them in the Lake District, lovely things made from spoons & other upcycled silver.

If you're going to be in London then I'd recommend the annual Dazzle exhibition at OXO Tower. Loads of choice.

I really love Linda Macdonald's work: www.lindamacdonaldjewellery.com. Both my engagement and wedding ring are from her With Love collection.

Have a look at Brazen Studios

PhilODox · 26/11/2018 18:48

I've had lovely things from Wendy Kemp, and from Kit Heath (though that's more mainstream). I also like Ortak.
