What to do with my awful, thin hair (picture included)

Hi all,

As you can tell from the attached picture, I have really thin, fine mouse-coloured hair.

After a really awful week, I've decided I want a change. My self-esteem is at a low and I really could do with a boost!

I'm going to book an appointment at a hairdressers this week and I'm open to anything - adding colour, having a bob, etc. What do you think I should do?

I'm 25, if that's relevant.

I also my eyebrows showing on the pic as they are very dark, so possibly wouldn't want to dye my hair too light.

Any advice appreciated!

Not helpful, but i like your hair and don't think it's thin.

PineapplePud · 25/11/2018 18:07

Thanks Kemer! My hair has always been the thing I've disliked most about my appearance.

I used to have a fringe and I'm wondering if I should get it back. Without a fringe, I have an odd cow-lick and lots of baby hairs.

Agree with PP your hair looks amazing! Maybe a fringe and a blunt ‘lob’ if you fancy a change?

BertieDrapper · 25/11/2018 18:12

I had quite similar hair and also get the baby hair fuzziness on top.

For years I had it long and after having DD I cut it to a bob.... it looks so much better and healthier...... don't get me wrong I miss my long hair and wish I had it long but it will never be long and full so there is little point!

I also bleach my hair so it has a bit more texture and will actually hold a style now!

CS12345 · 25/11/2018 18:14

Your hair is lovely and you are young and beautiful. Don't waste your youth wishing to be 'better'. Just use good thickening products and get blow dries done and then get out there and enjoy being young & gorgeous.

HundredMilesAnHour · 25/11/2018 18:14

I don't think your hair is thin nor is it it mouse-coloured. I'd consider losing a bit of length to give it more body but it looks fine OP.

PineapplePud · 25/11/2018 18:16

I'm tempted by a lob! I do want to have some colour put in, but I usually only go to the hairdressers twice a year max.

Can you I have a lob and a dip dye, or would the hair be too short for it to look any good?

HollowTalk · 25/11/2018 18:18

Your hair's lovely. I think it would look thicker if you had it shorter. Have you ever used a curling wand on it?

Ohyesiam · 25/11/2018 18:20

It wouldn’t occur to me that there was anything to not like about your hair. From the part of your face I can see it lols like you have great bones and beautiful face-framing brows.

I always had great hair but a shapeless face.
I-guess few of us have it all.

Plus your are young, enjoy it. You will spend years looking at pictures t thinking “ I was gorgeous, my hair was great why couldn’t I see that then?”.

Oblomov18 · 25/11/2018 18:23

Looks good to me.
Be accepting of what you've got. You can't change it that much.
Mine is similar. Worse (but I have great eyelashes and great chest!!)

Maybe a bit shorter?
Curling wand, like suggested earlier?

Twatforahat · 25/11/2018 18:29

Your hair isn't thin. Fine perhaps. I would get it cut shorter.

PineapplePud · 25/11/2018 18:32

Thanks for the nice comments!

I've accepted my hair for what it is - I'm just wanting to have a "wow" hair cut that makes me feel good Grin

I don't have a curling wand (or straighteners). Perhaps I should invest.

I used to have a heavy fringe but grew it out because I felt it was a bit childish Blush thinking I might get it back

My hair used to be much thicker - I think the picture above doesn't actually show how thin it's become!

I like the fringe.

Get your iron and thyroid checked of you think it is thinning.

Birrdy · 25/11/2018 18:38

It is a bit thin but nothing too bad. I think you need a blunt cut but wouldn't go too short. Get a couple of inches off the ends and use a keratin treatment plus perfectil supplements.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/11/2018 18:38

I think your hair looks great (and it's not mousy), it looks good with the fringe, have you got a few layers in it too then? It seems to have a bit more bounce.

Have you recently had a baby? That can make your hair thin, it does come back though!

I'd honestly just have a bit of a trim and some layers put in. Shorter hair take a lot more styling (I've had every haircut you could imagine from a buzzcut to my current silver mane. Long hair is much easier).

PineapplePud · 25/11/2018 18:44

I have had chronic anaemia in the past - think that might be worth checking!

My hair definitely used to have more bounce.

No baby, but suspected PCOS

It looks lovely framing your face. I agree with taking a few inches off.

What sort of look do you want? Natural? Funky?

dogzdinner · 25/11/2018 18:45

With regards to colour

Hauskat · 25/11/2018 18:46

Haven’t rtft but your hair is lovely and your eyebrows are envy making!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/11/2018 18:47

Re eyebrows, my hair is now almost completely silver and my brows are still very dark and full. It looks ace!

Thankyounext · 25/11/2018 18:48

A fringe and a blunt cut and you could go darker.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/11/2018 18:48

I have hair thinner than yours. I now have a Dyson volume and shape - my hair now looks as if it's on steroids. Grin

MissLadyM · 25/11/2018 18:51

It's not thin! I thing a blunt lob with a side fringe would look great. Beware a blunt fringe if you've got cowlicks etc! The colour is nice but you could get some coffee/chocolate lowlights x

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/11/2018 18:53

What does it do Laurie?

I'd look like freaking Crystal Tipps if I used that I suspect.

PineapplePud · 25/11/2018 18:55

LaurieFairyCake Does it really work? Usually whenever I try the latest gadget it never does me any good!

I have never had a blow dry at a hairdressers that has looked good, for example. Hairdressers usually succeed in making my hair look thinner!
