I like Theresa May’s new scarf but why the hell has she styled it like a blanket?

Clearly she likes a Hermes scarf, and that’s fine - not my preferred colour palate but fine. But what a strange way to wear it.?

I can see that she might need a bit of a comfort blanket after the week she’s had - but surely that’s what cashmere is for (if you have her clothes budget). Heaven knows she’s far more stylish than me, so am I missing something?
(And by the way, the news and politics topics are => thataway if that’s what you’d prefer to discuss).

haha i also noticed this! but cant remember anything about what she said i also dont think her hunched shoulders leaning forward did her any favours poor woman

Bejazzled · 24/11/2018 01:41

If I owned a Hermes scarf I would reserve the right to wear it how I like.

Roobub · 24/11/2018 06:03

Is it just me or is Theresa May another one of those "only on mumsnet" things... IRL it seems to be a universally agreed fact that she looks utterly ridiculous almost all of the time, yet on MN she's 'stylish'.

Diorissimo1985 · 24/11/2018 06:25

Maybe she was chilly.
Agree it was an odd way to wear it, maybe a last minute decision and she flung it on and decided to just go with it.
Must have have a lot on her mind... Grin

Erm what? I dislike TM as a person and politician but clearly she looks smart the vast majority of the time and I have never seen her look "utterly ridiculous" Confused Roobub can you post an utterly ridiculous pic please?

Unless like me you think Hermes scarves are God awful? Grin

Silkie2 · 24/11/2018 06:55

Well obviously - she is an unbotoxed middle aged grey-haired woman , OF COURSE she is ridiculous for daring to put herself in the public eye.

Roobub · 24/11/2018 07:00

@AndhowcouldIeverrefuse Granted, looking back to provide photographical evidence most of her truly awful looks are circa 2017. She has worn much less hideous stuff this year. Maybe my opinions about her 'look' were already formed and I've been unwilling to change them. Also, her very terrible posture and undead complexion make even nice clothes look bad. However, while I'll agree this year her clothes have been relatively inoffensive and smart, I would still not say she's stylish.

Can happily provide the 2017 evidence if required 😂

Roobub · 24/11/2018 07:01

And yes I think the Hermes scarf is ugly.

Roobub · 24/11/2018 07:08

@Silkie2 I have no issue at all with her being middle aged, naturally grey or unbotoxed. In no way did I say those are the things which make her ridiculous.

StripySocksAndDocs · 24/11/2018 07:09

Does ‘universally agreed’ mean between you and a friend or tabloids? I know that ‘only on mumsnet’ means ‘not what I think or do’, but not sure about this meaning of universally.

It’s opinion she is know for being stylist, it’s not a fact she looks utterly ridiculous most of the time though. I think she is know for being stylish, whether I agree or not is a different matter.

I think it was, more about the camera angle than anything. Most likely she was cold in the studio.

BillywilliamV · 24/11/2018 07:10

Its her comfort blanket,
Her "banky" if you will!

Poor woman, like her or loathe her, she probably needs one.

Hellywelly10 · 24/11/2018 07:14

I thought she looked like a 'bad' old lady drawn by quintin blake for roald dahl. But im biased.

SpanishTiles · 24/11/2018 07:17

@Hellywelly10 me too! She's got a classic Blake nose I always thought! Along with the posture and athletism of Montgomery Burns.

cushioncuddle · 24/11/2018 07:30

She wears good clothes but unfortunately either her shape or the styles she chooses they don't sit well. Boris has the same problem.

Hellywelly10 · 24/11/2018 08:01

Innit!

hmmwhatatodo · 24/11/2018 08:10

I often think she looks like Mr. Burns from the Simpson’s. I also think those scarves are awful.

Floisme · 24/11/2018 08:18

She could have chosen to follow Angela Merkel and wear anonymous trouser suits all the time but she likes clothes so she experiments - which is bound to mean getting it wrong sometimes, and when she does, the whole world sees it. I salute her for that.

Mind you I don’t even think she’s got it particularly wrong this time. I quite like the way she’s wearing it.

Bluntness100 · 24/11/2018 08:23

What a bitchy comment. She clearly doesn't look ridiculous. She looks fine. Maybe not my style but really there is no need to attack a woman for how she presents her self

Grow up

NashvilleQueen · 24/11/2018 08:26

I am no fan of May or the party she leads but she clearly has an interest in fashion and clothes and I think that it’s quite good to see her experiment.

KlutzyDraconequus · 24/11/2018 08:31

She looks like Mr Burns in drag.

Yewtown · 24/11/2018 08:50

You are all too young, she is wearing it 1980s style. You used to wear a large scarf draped over the shoulders of your jacket.

DaffydownClock · 24/11/2018 08:55

My god, some singularly bitchy comments on here.
Do you spend all your time slagging off how women look?
I'm no fan of hers but I wouldn't want her job for anything and how she choses to dress is none of your business imo.

MartaHallard · 24/11/2018 09:23

I would guess that
a) the scarf is protecting her from the air conditioning in the studio and
b) she's leaning forward because it's a radio show and she's leaning into the mike.

It's not a posed photoshoot, or even a scheduled public appearance. She was photographed as she went about her working day. I daresay her mind was on her job, rather than on how her scarf was draped.

It's a bit sad that a woman is expected to be perfectly styled even to do a radio show!

helzapoppin2 · 24/11/2018 09:42

It was the circle, looking like a halo behind her head that fixated me!

Roobub · 24/11/2018 09:51

@helzapoppin2 how ironic! 😂
