Coats: tell me your go to or new brands, must be waterproof and very warm

Need to invest in a decent coat - probably a parka with a faux fur trim - must be waterproof or at least have some water resistant qualities and be able to cope with nth Yorkshire winter. Not frumpy (realise I'm now asking a lot Grin) and not be more than 300.

Something kind of like this Barbour one in terms of warmth and waterpoofiness and something like this Rockholly one in terms of style.

Please tell me all the coat/parka brands you love!

Many thanks

I afore my craghopper coat. I'm permanently cold and it's like wearing a duvet. Big fluffy hood and I've been bone dry walking for 30 mins in heavy rain.

kmini · 18/11/2018 22:30

Brilliant start...i hadn't heard of them! Thank you!

Oh and one more request. The faux fur needs to look fab - most just look really synthetic and fake

Warm and waterproof - Didrikdons or North Face Arctic parka.
Waterproof - Seasalt, though the Janelle also toasty warm.
Warmth - Patagonia or North Face Metropolis Parka.

I must be the coldest person on the planet so I got a Uniqlo down coat last year (not waterproof, they have lots of options every year) and then team it with a nice hooded waterproof jacket on top. It means you have a super-warm layer underneath but can swap and change your top layer then. And it is still wearable on non-rainy days. Best thing I ever bought!

I paid a fortune for a Didrikson parka style coat 5 years ago. It's still my absolute go to for the very coldest winter days.

kmini · 22/11/2018 11:19

Thank you all! Hadn't heard of didrickson - will look into them!

Cotswold do a brand called Ayacucho.
I got a coat from them a couple years ago, same specifications you're after. I think it was under £150 and has been brilliant.

Perfectpanda11 · 22/11/2018 11:46

Just got a parka from tog24 that was recommended on here and it's very cosy.

Kilash · 22/11/2018 12:11

I have a Seasalt Janelle and it's amazingly warm for quite a light coat. Completely waterproof too.

storynanny · 25/11/2018 17:44

I’ve just bought a North Face Suzanne coat, waterproof warm and knee length! Got it in an outlet plus extra 20% off when I asked. No fur around the hood though. Maybe you could buy some from a fabric shop and get someone to sew it on for you, might open up more possibilities.

Snog · 25/11/2018 17:50

I have the Didrikson Meja, looks similar to your pic

MustBeThin · 25/11/2018 17:52

I love my Barbour Outlaw jacket, waterproof and very warm. My legs and hands will be freezing cold but my body is always toasty. I have a few more waterproof barbour coats, can't fault them.

JDSTER · 25/11/2018 18:53

Also recommend Didrikson. I learnt about the make on here several years ago and bought one that’s still going strong.

Moncler. I swear by mine.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/11/2018 19:36

I second the sea salt Janelle. I have to admit I was a little disappointed when it arrived as it felt so light, but it’s super toasty and I get lots of complements on it. They fit large, I bought an 8 but could probably have had a 6, and I’m definitely not a size 6.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/11/2018 19:36

And the Janelle has amazing pockets.

didireallysaythat · 25/11/2018 21:08

Didrikson.

Changed my life.

notsurewhatshappening · 25/11/2018 21:13

Mountain warehouse ski jacket with down gilet from Lands End underneath. It's thin but mega warm and was half price last week.

GoldenPomBearBadge · 25/11/2018 21:18

Didrikson Angelina. I think they stopped making that style but I tracked one down. I size up one size in Didriksons.

I’m sure any Didrikson would be fab but I wanted what you want plus it had to have a fish tail and cover my thighs.

GoldenPomBearBadge · 25/11/2018 21:19

My friend has a ParkaLondon and doesn’t rate it. Looks fantastic but is so heavy to wear and not completely waterproof.

Oly5 · 25/11/2018 22:39

Another vote for North Face arctic parka. Mine is about to do its fifth winter and is still like new!

CherryPavlova · 25/11/2018 22:51

SeaSalt for warm and waterproof.
Boden rainmac for waterproof and windproof but not as padded.
