Coloured tights

What do people think generally of tights in colours other than black? I like a coloured tight myself and have them in dark red, dark green, charcoal grey, purple, navy... I wear them particularly with shoes that aren't black, as I don't like black tights with, say, brown boots. But a colleague remarked to me the other day that they look a bit like fancy-dress, so now I'm wondering if they're too childish for a nearly middle-aged woman to be wearing! Anyone else experienced this?

I love a coloured tight (

I love coloured tights. I have bright pink, burgundy and purple. I wear them mainly with black dresses and a cardigan. Never occurred to me people might think they look like fancy dress, wouldn’t have stopped me wearing them though.

Thought clothing do some great bamboo ones and it's nice to support an ethical brand

I got some grey to go with these shoes but they look awful (btw that link looks very odd - hope it works) what other colour could I wear with them with a grey dress

I've felt limited to sheer barely black and they are boring!

Notcontent · 01/11/2018 22:59

I think they can look great with the right outfit!

I think it’s best to avoid pale colours.

It never occurred to me that navy tights were considered 'coloured tights', I thought they were quite staid. As for older women looking like they are trying to be quirky - it's how I've been all my life and I'd rather be quirky than invisible.

GraceMarks · 02/11/2018 08:29

@KatyMac are they the metallic silver ones? I would have thought charcoal grey would look good, but if not, definitely a teal or burgundy.

@KatyMac I would suggest teal or purple.

I would ignore your colleague- you don't have to dress to meet their personal preference. They should only comment if you are wearing something inappropriate or that is not allowed in your workplace.

Everyone has their own style, and yours has more focus on colour than some. It sounds lovely!

Thanks ladies fits with the teal I think I want

My mum is taking me shopping today (first time post-op) I may get new clothes for the new career I don't have yet....incl teal tights Wink)

How rude of your colleague. I like coloured tights but normally match them to my shoes for hopefully a bit of leg lengthening (I'm a shorties).

Odiepants · 02/11/2018 17:28

Grace I agree! Wore my bright burgundy tights today and had so many compliments. 4 people asked me where they were from so clearly not everyone is anti coloured tights Grin

I have felt very dull today, wearing black tights.
