Did you ever buy a fantasy fashion item which doesn't fit in with your lifestyle? (Having a Cinderella moment :-))

I am positively salivating over a pair of boots and because my birthday is at this end of the year I feel justified in ordering them online.

They do not fit in with my lifestyle at all. I am a socially quiet SAHM with an ASD DC so I very very rarely get out at night (maybe 6 or 7 nights a year). These boots are high, brightly coloured, glamorous and fabulous. I feel like none of these things.

So if I buy these beauties will I wear them while changing nappies, cleaning up dog shite, emptying the bins (you get it, it's all glamour here) Grin I can picture myself wearing them while watching Strictly and staring at them while grinning inanely.

Did you ever buy a tulle skirt, silly shoes, a feather boa or anything that has no practicality but is beautiful?

Yes! I really really want this www.wtrlondon.com/carlotta-black-organza-wrap-front-trench-coat1
just because!
Can you post a link to your boots?

mycatplotsdeath · 18/10/2018 22:57

Some Stella McCartney shoes, many years ago.
I think I wore them once.
I love them and every so often put them on to do the house work in.
They are my favourite useless thing

duckling84 · 18/10/2018 22:58

I bought a pair of irregular choice shoes once that were gorgeous but I would never ever leave the house in.
I wore them around the house a handful of time but mostly just displayed them for their beauty. Recently sold as I needed some cash ☹
I'd love a tulle skirt. A proper baby pink sparkly one. When I visit my dnan in a nursing home there is another lady there who is always wearing a princess dress with tiara. When I'm old and suffering with dementia I want that to be me.

Floisme · 19/10/2018 09:09

Yes, a very, very small part of my wardrobe is full-on Grace Kellyesque glamour. It's not my normal style and it certainly doesn't fit in with my life but I assume it's my subconscious trying to tell me something and I indulge it occasionally.

Lost5stone · 19/10/2018 09:16

Leather skirt. I actually went for it last week and wore it to work. I didn't get any looks so intend to wear again! But I don't think it's something I can wear to soft play yet.

Processedpea · 19/10/2018 09:19

I have some high heeled navy blue knee high boots that I hardly wear but I.m so happy I have them ! I like to know they're there Grin

whoami24601 · 19/10/2018 09:29

Irregular choice miaow miaow boots for me! I've been wanting a pair since I was a teenager, and last year just thought 'fuck it' and finally bought them! I rarely go out or wear heels, but I love them so much! I always plan my outfit around them!

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 19/10/2018 09:39

It's so heartening and lovely to hear I'm not the only one Grin

These are the boots btw. Not that wild looking really. I think I'm attracted to the red metallic element as they're the closest to Dorothy's ruby slippers as I'll ever get! Happy childhood associations Smile

I've just done this very thing.

I am also a SAHM, 4DC, with 2 German Shepherds, who is endlessly cleaning and picking up dog mess.

But I just had to have these boots

I feel a tad guilty for buying them though and have kept them in the box and still have the receipt. I may end up sending them back as they are so impracticable for my lifestyle.

ninecoronas · 19/10/2018 09:51

They're amazing! You should absolutely get them!
Another one with a leather skirt here. It's a wine coloured pencil skirt and in my head I look like a hot mysterious European spy wearing it, the reality is it gets wheeled out at Christmas parties where there is little in the way of international espionage going on. Maybe I will wear it today (v optimistic 4 weeks post childbirth...)

Pair of Terry de Havilland wedges. Saw a beautiful pair in a charity shop about ten years before, sadly vastly the wrong size. The longing caught up with me. I then bought a Petit Bateau x Christian Lacroix one shoulder knitted Breton stripe evening dress with ruching and velvet bows just to have something to go with the wedges.

Never wore either outside the house.

DH said I looked amazing the one time I tried them on together though.

Processedpea · 19/10/2018 15:48

I now want some terry de Havilland wedges

duckling84 · 19/10/2018 16:43

Oh they are beautiful boots! Definitely buy them, you will forever regret it if you dont

RaspberryHobNob · 19/10/2018 18:10

Not glamorous but I can't stop thinking about these blue boots. I want to wear them with tights of the same colour and a plain dark dress. I think I could get away with it

I have a pair of ballet shoes hanging from my bed.

I'll never wear them but I love them. I regret giving up dance as a kid and I never got into blocks, but I've got the lovely satin shoes, and I sewed the ribbons on and everything.

Ollivander84 · 19/10/2018 19:08

No. Never
Ok, I paid £19 for this in the sale

Thebluedog · 19/10/2018 20:52

My dh bought me some sparkly Jimmy Choo shoes... I absolutely love them but they go with nothing.. but I’ve worn them quite a few times on the very rare occasions I go out. Even with jeans and nothing that matches, I just love them Grin

EnidButton · 19/10/2018 21:13

Heels so high I can't really walk in them. They're a really glossy black patent leather and make my legs look a million miles long and shapely. I get them out and pose in front of the mirror occasionally then lovingly box them up again. I need a car to bar type night out.

Sequinned short skirt. Never worked out what to wear with it apart from opaque tights so haven't worn it but it's so sparkly, I love looking at it.

Just bought a red leopard print dress that doesn't match any occasion that I go to and I'm pretty sure it's edging towards the wrong side of tacky but it fits me amazingly well and I look bloody hot in it so I kept it.

Stopped myself buying a huge pink faux fur coat last week. Blush It was so so soft though...

I just think of some clothes as costumes. Sometimes you fancy being a different character to usual and clothes help that happen.

CookPassBabtridge · 19/10/2018 21:35

Yes a pair of toadstool-esque irregular choice shoes. Absolutely beautiful but couldn't walk in them and didn't want to scuff them anyway! So just displayed them on a shelf and wore them for an occasional instagram pic

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 19/10/2018 22:14

Those blue boots are amazing. Buy the red ones, OP, they are perfect for nappy changing.

I was working in the US one summer while I was in uni. I came home with a full on silver Cinderella ballgown. It was magnificent. I was a poor student so the glorious gown lived in a box under my bed. On occasion I took it out and flounced around the flat in it. Loved it.

ArkAtEee · 19/10/2018 23:05

I love those boots too OP but can't afford them. I say buy them if you can and enjoy them, do it for me! Grin

When I was on maternity leave for a year I had a ridiculously uncomfortable pair of platform snakeskin boots I used to wear to baby weighings etc. Cheered me up a bit.

Laiste · 19/10/2018 23:13

i'm always doing this

Most memorable were a pair of Rocketdog sky-high wedge sandals a couple of years ago. Teeny soft rainbow colour woven strap across your toes and and tie up ankle strap. And about 6 inch cork wedge heels. Gorgeous! Mae my legs look fantastic.

I looked at them a lot. I wore them once. To Tesco Hmm And FELL OVER on them in the car park BlushBlush

DH was with me. He tried to catch me as i went down. It was all in slow motion but I sort of said 'noooo' as i didn't want to drag him with me. I slithered off the rear bumper of a strangers car.

cantquitebelieveit12 · 20/10/2018 11:20

ha ha, I do wear my crazy purchases although I don’t buy crazy high heels anymore. I think it’s really important to have some bits in your wardrobe that make you feel good, like another person etc. Be brave!

Talith · 20/10/2018 11:22

Red boots are surprisingly versatile. I've had a few pairs and worn them to death!

hettie · 20/10/2018 11:44

A full length fake fur coat from Karen Millen... It's gorgeousbut I'm unlikely to cycle to work in it
